This paper addresses the trajectory tracking control problem of underactuated ships in ocean engineering, which faces the dual challenges of tracking error time–performance regulation and robustness design due to the system’s underactuated characteristics, model uncertainties, and external disturbances. Aiming to address the issues of traditional finite-time control (convergence time dependent on initial states) and fixed-time control (control chattering and parameter conservativeness), this paper proposes a predefined-time adaptive control framework that integrates an event-triggered mechanism and neural networks. By constructing a Lyapunov function with time-varying weights and designing non-periodic dynamically updated dual triggering conditions, the convergence process of tracking errors is strictly constrained within a user-prespecified time window without relying on initial states or introducing non-smooth terms. An adaptive approximator based on radial basis function neural networks (RBF-NNs) is employed to compensate for unknown nonlinear dynamics and external disturbances in real-time. Combined with the event-triggered mechanism, it dynamically adjusts the update instances of control inputs, ensuring prespecified tracking accuracy while significantly reducing computational resource consumption. Theoretical analysis shows that all signals in the closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded, tracking errors converge to a neighborhood of the origin within the predefined-time, and the update frequency of control inputs exhibits a linear relationship with the predefined-time, avoiding Zeno behavior. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method in complex marine environments. Compared with traditional control strategies, it achieves more accurate trajectory tracking, faster response, and a substantial reduction in control input update frequency, providing an efficient solution for the engineering implementation of embedded control systems in unmanned ships. Natural fiber-based biocomposites are rapidly gaining traction in sustainable manufacturing. However, their supply chain (SC) designs at the feedstock pre-processing stage often lack robust multicriteria decision-making evaluations, which can impact downstream processes and final product quality. This case study proposes a sustainability-driven multicriteria decision-making framework for selecting pre-processing equipment configurations within a hemp-based biocomposite SC. Using a cradle-to-gate system boundary, four alternative configurations combining balers (square vs. round) and hammer mills (full-screen vs. half-screen) are evaluated. The analytical network process (ANP) model is used to evaluate alternative SC configurations while capturing the interdependencies among environmental, economic, social, and technical sustainability criteria. These criteria are further refined with the inclusion of sub-criteria, resulting in a list of 11 key performance indicators (KPIs). To evaluate ranking robustness, a non-linear programming (NLP)-based sensitivity model is developed, which minimizes the weight perturbations required to trigger rank reversals, using an IPOPT solver. The results indicated that the Half-Round setup provides the most balanced sustainability performance, while Full-Square performs best in economic and environmental terms but ranks lower socially and technically. Also, the ranking was most sensitive to the weight of the system reliability and product quality criteria, with up to a 100% shift being required to change the top choice under the ANP model, indicating strong robustness. Overall, the proposed framework enables decision-makers to incorporate uncertainty, interdependencies, and sustainability-related KPIs into the early-stage SC design of bio-based composite materials. Financial market forecasting remains challenging due to complex nonlinear dynamics and regime-dependent behaviors that traditional models struggle to capture effectively. This research introduces the Adaptive Financial Reservoir Network with Hypernetwork Flow (AFRN–HyperFlow) framework, a novel ensemble architecture integrating Echo State Networks, temporal convolutional networks, mixture density networks, adaptive Hypernetworks, and deep state-space models for enhanced financial time-series prediction. Through comprehensive feature engineering incorporating technical indicators, spectral decomposition, reservoir-based representations, and flow dynamics characteristics, the framework achieves superior forecasting performance across diverse market conditions. Experimental validation on 26,817 balanced samples demonstrates exceptional results with an F1-score of 0.8947, representing a 12.3% improvement over State-of-the-Art baseline methods, while maintaining robust performance across asset classes from equities to cryptocurrencies. The adaptive Hypernetwork mechanism enables real-time regime-change detection with 2.3 days average lag and 95% accuracy, while systematic SHAP analysis provides comprehensive interpretability essential for regulatory compliance. Ablation studies reveal Echo State Networks contribute 9.47% performance improvement, validating the architectural design. The AFRN–HyperFlow framework addresses critical limitations in uncertainty quantification, regime adaptability, and interpretability, offering promising directions for next-generation financial forecasting systems incorporating quantum computing and federated learning approaches. This paper presents a flight control framework based on neural network Model Predictive Control (NN-MPC) to tackle the challenges of acceleration command tracking for supersonic vehicles (SVs) in complex flight environments, addressing the shortcomings of traditional methods in managing nonlinearity, random disturbances, and real-time performance requirements. Initially, a dynamic model is developed through a comprehensive analysis of the vehicle’s dynamic characteristics, incorporating strong cross-coupling effects and disturbance influences. Subsequently, a predictive mechanism is employed to forecast future states and generate virtual control commands, effectively resolving the issue of sluggish responses under rapidly changing commands. Furthermore, the approximation capability of neural networks is leveraged to optimize the control strategy in real time, ensuring that rudder deflection commands adapt to disturbance variations, thus overcoming the robustness limitations inherent in fixed-parameter control approaches. Within the proposed framework, the ultimate uniform bounded stability of the control system is rigorously established using the Lyapunov method. Simulation results demonstrate that the method exhibits exceptional performance under conditions of system state uncertainty and unknown external disturbances, confirming its effectiveness and reliability. The control stability and accuracy of quad tiltrotor UAVs is improved when encountering external disturbances during automatic flight by an active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) parameter self-tuning control strategy based on a radial basis function (RBF) neural network. Firstly, a nonlinear flight dynamics model of the quad tiltrotor UAV is established based on the approach of component-based mechanistic modeling. Secondly, the effects of internal uncertainties and external disturbances on the model are eliminated, whilst the online adaptive parameter tuning problem for the nonlinear active disturbance rejection controller is addressed. The superior nonlinear function approximation capability of the RBF neural network is then utilized by taking both the control inputs computed by the controller and the system outputs of the quad tiltrotor model as neural network inputs to implement adaptive parameter adjustments for the Extended State Observer (ESO) component responsible for disturbance estimation and the Nonlinear State Error Feedback (NLSEF) control law of the active disturbance rejection controller. Finally, an adaptive attitude control system for the quad tiltrotor UAV is constructed, centered on the ADRC-RBF controller. Subsequently, the efficacy of the attitude control system is validated through simulation, encompassing a range of flight conditions. The simulation results demonstrate that the Integral of Absolute Error (IAE) of the pitch angle response controlled by the ADRC-RBF controller is reduced to 37.4° in comparison to the ADRC controller in the absence of external disturbance in the full-states mode state of the quad tiltrotor UAV, and the oscillation amplitude of the pitch angle response controlled by the ADRC-RBF controller is generally reduced by approximately 50% in comparison to the ADRC controller in the presence of external disturbance. In comparison with the conventional ADRC controller, the proposed ADRC-RBF controller demonstrates superior performance with regard to anti-disturbance capability, adaptability, and tracking accuracy. Accurate prediction of landslide-induced displacement is essential for the structural integrity and operational safety of buildings and infrastructure situated in geologically unstable regions. This study introduces a novel hybrid predictive framework that synergistically integrates Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) with Temporal Convolutional Neural Networks (TCNs), herein referred to as the GTCN model, to forecast displacement at building monitoring points subject to landslide activity. The proposed methodology is validated using time-series monitoring data collected from the slope adjacent to the Zhongliang Reservoir in Wuxi County, Chongqing, an area where slope instability poses a significant threat to nearby structural assets. Experimental results demonstrate the GTCN model’s superior predictive performance, particularly under challenging conditions of incomplete or sparsely sampled data. The model proves highly effective in accurately characterizing both abrupt fluctuations within the displacement time series and capturing long-term deformation trends. Furthermore, the GTCN framework outperforms comparative hybrid models based on Gated Recurrent Units (GRUs) and GPR, with its advantage being especially pronounced in data-limited scenarios. It also exhibits enhanced capability for temporal feature extraction relative to conventional imputation-based forecasting strategies like forward-filling. By effectively modeling both nonlinear trends and uncertainty within displacement sequences, the GTCN framework offers a robust and scalable solution for landslide-related risk assessment and early warning applications. Its applicability to building safety monitoring underscores its potential contribution to geotechnical hazard mitigation and resilient infrastructure management. Full article

Accurate forecasting of household waste generation is essential for sustainable urban planning and the development of data-driven environmental policies. Conventional statistical models, while simple and interpretable, often fail to capture the nonlinear and multidimensional relationships inherent in waste production patterns. This study proposes a machine learning-based regression framework utilizing Random Forest and XGBoost algorithms to predict annual household waste generation across four metropolitan regions in South Korea Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, and Jeju over the period from 2000 to 2023. Independent variables include demographic indicators (total population, working-age population, elderly population), economic indicators (Gross Regional Domestic Product), and regional identifiers encoded using One-Hot Encoding. A derived feature, elderly ratio, was introduced to reflect population aging. Model performance was evaluated using R2, RMSE, and MAE, with artificial noise added to simulate uncertainty. Random Forest demonstrated superior generalization and robustness to data irregularities, especially in data-scarce regions like Jeju. SHAP-based interpretability analysis revealed total population and GRDP as the most influential features. The findings underscore the importance of incorporating economic indicators in waste forecasting models, as demographic variables alone were insufficient for explaining waste dynamics. This approach provides valuable insights for policymakers and supports the development of adaptive, region-specific strategies for waste reduction and infrastructure investment. Full article

Drawing on a panel dataset of 27,972 firm-year observations from Chinese A-share listed companies spanning 2009 to 2022, this study employs fixed-effects models to examine the nonlinear relationship between firm-level climate policy uncertainty (FCPU) and corporate green governance expenditure (GGE). The results reveal a robust inverted U-shaped pattern: moderate levels of FCPU encourage firms to increase GGE, while excessive uncertainty discourages it. Financing constraints mediate this relationship; specifically, FCPU exhibits a U-shaped impact on financing constraints, initially easing and then tightening them. Older top management teams accelerate the GGE downturn, while government environmental expenditure delays it, acting as a buffer. Heterogeneity analyses reveal the inverted U-shaped effect is more pronounced for non-polluting firms and state-owned enterprises (SOEs). This study highlights the complex dynamics of FCPU on corporate green behavior, underscoring the importance of climate policy stability and transparency for advancing corporate environmental engagement in China. The purpose of this paper is to use an informatics-based analysis to develop a rational design approach to the accelerated screening of nano-composite materials. Using existing nano-composite data, we develop a quantitative structure–activity relationship (QSAR) as a function of polymer matrix chemistry and nano-additive volume, with the property predicted being electrical conductivity. The development of a QSAR for the electrical conductivity of nano-composites presents challenges in representing the polymer matrix chemistry and backbone structure, the additive content, and the interactions between the components while capturing the non-linearity of electrical conductivity with changing nano-additive volume. An important aspect of this work is designing chemistries with small training data sizes, as the uncertainty in modeling is high, and potentially the representated physics may be minimal. In this work, we explore two important components of this aspect. First, an assessment via Uniform Manifold Approximation and Projection (UMAP) is used to assess the variability provided by new data points and how much information is contributed by data, which is significantly more important than the actual data size (i.e., how much new information is provided by each data point?). The second component involves assessing multiple training/testing splits to ensure that any results are not due to a specific case but rather that the results are statistically meaningful. This work will accelerate the rational design of polymer nano-composites by fully considering the large array of possible variables while providing a high-speed screening of polymer chemistries. This paper addresses the challenge of maximizing power extraction in offshore wind energy systems through the development of an enhanced maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control strategy. Offshore wind energy is inherently intermittent, leading to discrepancies between power generation and electricity demand. To address this issue, we propose three advanced control algorithms to perform a comparative analysis: sliding mode control (SMC), the Integral Backstepping-Based Real-Twisting Algorithm (IBRTA), and Feed-Back Linearization (FBL). These algorithms are designed to handle the nonlinear dynamics and aerodynamic uncertainties associated with offshore wind turbines. Given the practical limitations in acquiring accurate nonlinear terms and aerodynamic forces, our approach focuses on ensuring the adaptability and robustness of the control algorithms under varying operational conditions. The proposed strategies are rigorously evaluated through MATLAB/Simulink 2024 A simulations across multiple wind speed scenarios. Our comparative analysis demonstrates the superior performance of the proposed methods in optimizing power extraction under diverse conditions, contributing to the advancement of MPPT techniques for offshore wind energy systems. Intelligent driving is a key technology in the field of automotive manufacturing due to its advantages in environmental protection, energy efficiency, and economy. However, since the intelligent driving model is an uncertain multi-input multi-output dynamic system, especially in an interactive environment, it faces uncertainties such as non-uniform trial lengths, unknown nonlinear parameters, and unknown control direction. In this paper, an adaptive iterative learning control method is proposed for vehicle systems with non-uniform trial lengths and asymmetric control gain matrices. Unlike the existing research on adaptive iterative learning for non-uniform test lengths, this paper assumes that the elements of the system’s control gain matrix are asymmetric. Therefore, the assumption made in traditional adaptive iterative learning methods that the control gain matrix of the system is known or real, symmetric, and positive definite (or negative definite) is relaxed. Finally, to prove the convergence of the system, a composite energy function is designed, and the effectiveness of the adaptive iterative learning method is verified using vehicle systems. This paper aims to address the challenges in intelligent driving control and decision-making caused by environmental and system uncertainties and provides a theoretical basis and technical support for intelligent driving, promoting the high-quality development of intelligent transportation. Driverless electric formula racing cars are affected by nonlinear vehicle characteristics, perturbations, and parameter uncertainties during races, which can cause problems such as low accuracy and instability in trajectory tracking. Aiming to address such problems, this paper proposes a control method combining a prescribed performance control with adaptive backstepping fuzzy control (PPC-ABFC) to solve the aforementioned issues and improve the trajectory tracking accuracy and stability of racing cars. This control method is achieved by constructing a combined error model and confining the error within a prescribed performance function. The nonlinear terms, disturbances, and unknown parameters of the model are approximated by a fuzzy logic system (FLS). An adaptive parameter update law is designed to update the learning parameters in real time. The virtual control law and the real control law were designed by using the backstepping method. The stability of the PPC-ABFC closed-loop system was rigorously proved by applying the Lyapunov stability theory. Finally, simulations were conducted to compare the proposed PPC-ABFC method with other algorithms at different speeds. The results demonstrated that the PPC-ABFC method effectively enhances the trajectory tracking performance of driverless electric formula racing cars. Full article

Downhole kick is one of the most severe safety hazards in deep and ultra-deep well drilling operations. Traditional monitoring methods, which rely on surface flow rate and fluid level changes, are limited by their delayed response and insufficient sensitivity, making them inadequate for early warning. This study proposes a real-time monitoring technique for gas content in drilling fluid based on the attenuation principle of Ba-133 γ-rays. By integrating laboratory static/dynamic experiments and Geant4-11.2 Monte Carlo simulations, the influence mechanism of gas–liquid two-phase media on γ-ray transmission characteristics is systematically elucidated. Firstly, through a comparative analysis of radioactive source parameters such as Am-241 and Cs-137, Ba-133 (main peak at 356 keV, half-life of 10.6 years) is identified as the optimal downhole nuclear measurement source based on a comparative analysis of penetration capability, detection efficiency, and regulatory compliance. Compared to alternative sources, Ba-133 provides an optimal energy range for detecting drilling fluid density variations, while also meeting exemption activity limits (1 × 106 Bq) for field deployment. Subsequently, an experimental setup with drilling fluids of varying densities (1.2–1.8 g/cm3) is constructed to quantify the inverse square attenuation relationship between source-to-detector distance and counting rate, and to acquire counting data over the full gas content range (0–100%). The Monte Carlo simulation results exhibit a mean relative error of 5.01% compared to the experimental data, validating the physical correctness of the model. On this basis, a nonlinear inversion model coupling a first-order density term with a cubic gas content term is proposed, achieving a mean absolute percentage error of 2.3% across the full range and R2 = 0.999. Geant4-based simulation validation demonstrates that this technique can achieve a measurement accuracy of ±2.5% for gas content within the range of 0–100% (at a 95% confidence interval). The anticipated field accuracy of ±5% is estimated by accounting for additional uncertainties due to temperature effects, vibration, and mud composition variations under downhole conditions, significantly outperforming current surface monitoring methods. This enables the high-frequency, high-precision early detection of kick events during the shut-in period. The present study provides both theoretical and technical support for the engineering application of nuclear measurement techniques in well control safety. Full article

This study introduces a paradigm shift in permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) control through the development of hybrid dual fractional-order sliding mode control (HDFOSMC) architecture integrated with evolutionary parameter learning (EPL). Conventional PMSM control frameworks face critical limitations in ultra-precision applications due to their inability to reconcile dynamic agility with steady-state precision under time-varying parameters and compound disturbances. The proposed HDFOSMC framework addresses these challenges via two synergistic innovations: (1) a dual fractional-order sliding manifold that fuses the rapid transient response of non-integer-order differentiation with the small steady-state error capability of dual-integral compensation, and (2) an EPL mechanism enabling real-time adaptation to thermal drift, load mutations, and unmodeled nonlinearities. Validation can be obtained through the comparison of the results on PMSM testbenches, which demonstrate superior performance over traditional fractional-order sliding mode control (FOSMC). By integrating fractional-order theory, sliding mode control theory, and parameter self-tuning theory, this study proposes a novel control framework for PMSM. The developed system achieves high-precision performance under extreme operational uncertainties through this innovative theoretical synthesis and comparative results. Full article

Industrial energy systems are increasingly required to reduce operating costs and CO2 emissions while integrating variable renewable energy sources. Managing these objectives under uncertainty requires advanced optimization strategies capable of delivering reliable and real-time decisions. To address these challenges, this study focuses on the short-term operational planning of an industrial energy supply system using the rolling horizon approach (RHA). The RHA offers an effective framework to handle uncertainties by repeatedly updating forecasts and re-optimizing over a moving time window, thereby enabling adaptive and responsive energy management. To solve the resulting nonlinear and constrained optimization problem at each RHA iteration, we propose a novel hybrid algorithm that combines Bayesian optimization (BO) with the Interior Point OPTimizer (IPOPT). While global deterministic and stochastic optimization methods are frequently used in practice, they often suffer from high computational costs and slow convergence, particularly when applied to large-scale, nonlinear problems with complex constraints. To overcome these limitations, we employ the BO–IPOPT, integrating the global search capabilities of BO with the efficient local convergence and constraint fulfillment of the IPOPT. Applied to a large-scale real-world case study of a food and cosmetic industry in Germany, the proposed BO–IPOPT method outperformed state-of-the-art solvers in both solution quality and robustness, achieving up to 97.25%-better objective function values at the same CPU time. Additionally, the influence of key parameters, such as forecast uncertainty, optimization horizon length, and computational effort per RHA iteration, was analyzed to assess their impact on system performance and decision quality.
