This study evaluates the effects of a 30-week mindfulness-enhanced resistance training (MRT) program on the physical and mental health of female college students and explores whether changes in self-esteem or mindfulness mediate the relationship between MRT and subjective well-being. Sixty-four healthy female college students were randomly assigned to either the MRT or resistance training (RT) group. Both groups participated in 90 min weekly sessions for 30 weeks. A 2 × 2 mixed-design ANOVA analyzed the intervention’s effects on physical health, mindfulness, self-esteem, and subjective well-being. PROCESS macro (Model 4) tested mediation effects. MRT and RT significantly improved physical health, with MRT showing superior improvements in waist-to-hip ratio, flexibility, and vital capacity. Only MRT improved mindfulness, self-esteem, and subjective well-being. Self-esteem changes fully mediated the relationship between MRT and subjective well-being. MRT as a comprehensive mind–body intervention significantly enhanced the physical health and subjective well-being of female college students, outperforming resistance training. Improvements in self-esteem mediated the relationship between MRT and increased subjective well-being. MRT can serve as an effective approach to promote the physical and mental health of female college students. Full article

Neuroinflammation is a hallmark of multiple sclerosis (MS). MS is marked by glial cell activation, autoreactive T cells, and the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and free radicals. Current therapeutic strategies aim to modulate the immune response using disease-modifying therapies, to slow disease progression. The specific aims of this study were: (a) to investigate the effect of cannabinoid acids on the release of glial neuroinflammatory mediators, (b) to examine the effect of intraperitoneally administered cannabinoid acids on symptoms of MS, and (c) to evaluate their effects on microglial and astrocyte activation and CD4+ T cell infiltration into the spinal cords of MS mice. Exposure of BV2 microglia to cannabinoid acids attenuated lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase by 40–90% it also reduced the release of nitric oxide and interleukin-17A. Among the cannabinoid acids tested, cannabidiolic acid (CBDA) significantly increased tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) secretion by up to 40% in LPS-stimulated BV2 cells. Intraperitoneal administration of CBDA also resulted in a twofold increase in TNFα secretion in splenocytes isolated from MS mice, compared to untreated MS controls. This study provides evidence that CBDA significantly reduces neurological scores, while both cannabinoid acids attenuate microgliosis, astrogliosis, and CD4+ T cell migration in lumbar spinal cord sections of MS mice. These compounds cross the blood–brain barrier (BBB) and act directly within the central nervous system. The consistent elevation of TNFα in the presence of CBDA across three experimental models suggests a distinctive immunomodulatory role for CBDA, with potential therapeutic implications in MS. Cluster of Differentiation 47 (CD47) functions as a key “don’t-eat-me” signal that enables cancer cells to evade macrophage-mediated immune clearance. GV1001, a 16-amino-acid peptide derived from human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), has been reported to exhibit antitumor and anti-inflammatory properties and to downregulate CD47 expression in human cells. In this study, we investigated whether GV1001 modulated CD47 expression and enhanced antitumor immunity in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). In vitro, GV1001 significantly reduced CD47 expression in both murine and human OSCC cells in dose- and time-dependent manners, resulting in a marked increase in macrophage-mediated phagocytosis. Mechanistically, GV1001 suppressed CD47 promoter activity and inhibited multiple upstream regulator expression in murine and human OSCC cell lines, while exerting minimal effects on normal human keratinocytes and fibroblasts. In vivo, GV1001 significantly inhibited tumor growth, suppressed CD47 expression, increased macrophage infiltration, and induced tumor cell necrosis and apoptosis in both murine OSCC syngeneic graft model and human OSCC xenograft model. GV1001 administered alone or in combination with cisplatin produced antitumor effects. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that GV1001 functions as a potent immunomodulatory anticancer peptide that downregulates CD47 expression and restores macrophage-mediated tumor clearance, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic strategy for OSCC. The increasing emphasis on sustainable governance and Environmental, Social, And Governance practices has heightened the need for banks to strengthen internal mechanisms that support sustainable finance, particularly in emerging market contexts. The aim of this study is to examine the roles of capacity building, green competencies, and financial technology in shaping sustainable finance in small-capital banks. Survey data were collected from employees of small-capital banks classified under Indonesia’s capital-based bank grouping KBMI 1 and listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, and were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling. The results show that capacity building has a significant positive effect on both green innovation and sustainable finance, highlighting the importance of organizational learning and human capital development. Green competencies positively influence green innovation but do not have a direct effect on sustainable finance. Financial technology has a significant positive effect on sustainable finance, whereas its effect on green innovation is not supported. In addition, green innovation does not directly influence sustainable finance and does not mediate the relationships between internal organizational drivers and sustainable finance. These findings demonstrate that sustainable finance in small-capital banks is advanced through Environmental, Social, And Governance-oriented governance mechanisms that prioritize internal organizational readiness and digital enablement. By clarifying how internal organizational capabilities translate Environmental, Social, And Governance practices into sustainable financial outcomes, this study contributes to the sustainability literature by providing context-specific evidence on governance pathways for advancing sustainable finance in emerging market banking systems. Factor XII (FXII) is a central mediator at the intersection of coagulation, fibrinolysis, inflammation, and immunity. It is activated upon contact with negatively charged surfaces, triggering the intrinsic coagulation pathway and driving thrombus formation and stabilization. Beyond clotting, FXII contributes to activation of the kallikrein–kinin system, generation of bradykinin, and modulation of inflammatory and immune responses. Congenital FXII deficiency does not increase bleeding risk, highlighting its unique role and making FXII inhibition an attractive strategy for anticoagulation and immune modulation with a potentially superior safety profile. Preclinical studies provide compelling evidence for this concept. In models of ischemic stroke and traumatic brain injury, FXII blockade significantly reduced infarct volume, improved neurological outcomes, and attenuated neuroinflammation without increasing hemorrhage. Similarly, in extracorporeal circulation and vascular stent implantation, FXII inhibition prevented thrombus formation and reduced fibrin deposition, achieving effects comparable to heparin but with markedly lower bleeding risk. Several classes of FXII inhibitors are currently in development, including antisense oligonucleotides, peptides, recombinant proteins, and monoclonal antibodies. Among them, Ixodes ricinus contact phase inhibitor (Ir-CPI) and recombinant human albumin-fused Infestin-4 (rHA-Infestin-4) have demonstrated strong antithrombotic efficacy in animal models. Most notably, garadacimab, a monoclonal anti-FXIIa antibody, has completed phase 3 trials and received regulatory approval for hereditary angioedema (HAE) prophylaxis, where it markedly reduces attack frequency with a favorable safety profile. This review summarizes current knowledge on FXII biology and evaluates its translational potential as a novel target for anticoagulant and anti-inflammatory therapies. Full article

Digital transformation is increasingly reshaping how tourism destinations enhance service quality and strengthen competitive positioning, particularly in developing economies characterized by heterogeneous digital maturity and structural constraints. This study develops and empirically tests a conceptual model examining the relationship between destination digital transformation, tourism supply quality, and destination competitiveness, with a specific focus on the mediating role of quality-oriented tourism supply. Survey data were collected from 242 tourism stakeholders and analyzed using hierarchical regression and bootstrapped mediation analysis (PROCESS Model 4, 5000 samples). The results show that digital transformation has a significant positive total effect on destination competitiveness (β = 0.48, p < 0.001), explaining 56% of the variance in competitiveness (R2 = 0.56). However, a substantial portion of this effect is transmitted indirectly through tourism supply quality. The mediation analysis confirms a statistically significant partial mediation effect, with approximately 41% of the total effect operating through quality-oriented mechanisms. The findings demonstrate that digital transformation enhances competitiveness primarily when embedded within structured quality management, online reputation management, and smart governance practices, rather than through technological adoption alone. The study contributes to the literature by integrating digital transformation and tourism supply quality into a unified competitiveness framework tailored to developing economy contexts and provides practical guidance for policymakers and destination managers seeking inclusive and sustainable growth through quality-oriented digital strategies. Background: This study examined the predictive effect of parental marital satisfaction on suicidal behaviors among preadolescents and adolescents in China, with positive youth development (PYD) attributes as a mediator. Methods: A total of 3665 matched pairs of students (aged 9–19, 51.3% boys) and their parents completed questionnaires, with parental marital satisfaction reported by parents and suicidal behaviors (ideation, plan, and attempt) and PYD attributes reported by students. Results: The prevalence of overall suicidal behavior was 15.5% in this sample, with a higher prevalence observed among those with lower parental education levels. Hierarchical regression and structural equation modeling analyses revealed that: (1) after controlling for socio-demographic variables, parental marital satisfaction negatively predicted suicidal behaviors; (2) PYD attributes negatively predicted suicidal behaviors, accounting for the largest proportion of variance (ΔR2 range = 0.036–0.102); (3) parental marital satisfaction was positively correlated with PYD attributes; and (4) PYD attributes partially mediated the predictive relationship between parental marital satisfaction and suicidal behavior, with a significant indirect effect (β = −0.06) accounting for 56.6% of the total effect. Conclusions: This study illuminates protective pathways through which a positive family environment cultivates individual competencies, ultimately contributing to reduced suicidal behavior. This study introduces a novel, simplified, and scalable two-step process for generating bioactive eggshell membrane (ESM) formulations by combining jet-O-mizer ultra-fine milling of ESM (yielding JEM biomaterial) with KOH-mediated hydrolysis, achieving ~50% solubilization of proteins and peptides and enabling the first evaluation of ESM-derived bioactives for gut health applications. The soluble protein fraction (SJ) was separated from the whole hydrolysate (WJ), and subjected to simulated gastrointestinal digestion to assess stability and bioavailability. The antioxidant capacities of the JEM-derived material showed a significant 15-fold increase compared to soluble non-hydrolyzed JEM (NJEM). SJ inhibited E. coli bacterial growth by 50% within 24 h, compared to the untreated bacterial culture. The formulations demonstrated superior anti-inflammatory properties with lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW macrophages, resulting in a 80% reduction in NO production compared to untreated cells. Proteomics analysis of SJ revealed key anti-inflammatory (YBX1, YWHAE) and antimicrobial (OCX36, OC-17, TENP, and histones) effectors whose coordinated activities could modulate gut microbial composition. The permeability of the intestinal barrier model Caco-2 monolayer was not significantly affected by treatment with any JEM-derived formulation, thereby predicting maintenance of intestinal integrity. This study provides safe, novel ESM derivatives with high bioavailability and multifunctional bioactivities, including antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects, positioning them as promising candidates for dietary supplements to promote gut health. This study investigates how social networking service (SNS) tourism information characteristics influence destination image and behavioral intentions in digital tourism communication. Drawing on the stimulus–organism–response (S-O-R) framework, SNS information characteristics are conceptualized as vividness, convenience, interactivity, and reliability, and their effects on affective image, cognitive image, and SNS behavioral intentions are examined. Data were collected from 273 Chinese tourists who used SNS platforms to obtain information about Jeju Island, and structural equation modeling (SEM) with bootstrapping was employed to test direct and mediating effects. Results indicate that convenience significantly influences cognitive image; vividness, convenience, and interactivity significantly affect affective image; and reliability shows no significant effect. Affective image positively influences behavioral intentions, whereas cognitive image does not. In addition, vividness, interactivity, and reliability directly influence behavioral intentions, while convenience has no direct effect. Mediation analysis shows that affective image partially mediates the effects of vividness and interactivity and fully mediates the effect of convenience, whereas cognitive image does not exhibit a significant mediating role. These findings highlight the importance of affective mechanisms in digital tourism communication and provide practical implications for sustainable destination marketing and digital tourism management. This study presents a statistically optimized protocol for the green synthesis of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) using aqueous Kalanchoe pinnata leaf extract (AKPLE). An integrated experimental strategy, transitioning from preliminary one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) screening to a five-factor Box–Behnken Design, was employed to model and simultaneously optimize two critical optical responses derived from surface plasmon resonance: the peak position (λmax) and its absorbance intensity. Highly predictive quadratic models (R2 > 0.97) revealed that synthesis outcomes are governed by significant nonlinear curvature, with minimal interaction effects. Multi-response optimization via a desirability function identified a harmonized set of conditions (HAuCl4: 0.44 mM, AKPLE: 3.50% v/v, temperature: 80.6 °C, pH: 7.2, time: 66.7 min) predicted to minimize λmax at 540 nm while maximizing absorbance to 0.61. Synthesis under these optimized conditions successfully produced spherical, crystalline Au NPs, as confirmed by characterization (average TEM size: 26.3 ± 4.1 nm; zeta potential: –30.45 mV). This work demonstrates that a hybrid OFAT-RSM approach is superior for the precise, multivariate optimization of plant-mediated Au NP synthesis, providing a validated and scalable framework to balance nanoparticle size and plasmonic intensity—an outcome unattainable through conventional OFAT methods. Aligning Green Human Resource Practices and Adaptive Change Management: A Pathway to Sustainable Innovation Performance

Environmental sustainability has emerged as a strategic requirement of those organizations that want to remain competitive in the long run, but most companies continue to adopt green human resource management (GHRM) practices and organizational change initiatives individually, thus restraining their potential transformation. This paper constructs and confirms a combined approach of how the fit between GHRM practices and adaptive change management processes results in high performance in sustainable innovation. In this study, 83 organizations from both the manufacturing and service sectors were selected using a purposive sampling method, to ensure diversity across developed and developing countries and varying levels of GHRM integration (low, moderate, and high). The sample was chosen to represent a broad spectrum of sustainability maturity levels, allowing for a comprehensive analysis of how GHRM practices influence green product, process, and business model innovation. This selection, alongside 30 peer-reviewed studies published between 2020 and 2025, underpins the conceptual framework used to activate change preparedness and link GHRM dimensions with innovation outcomes. I demonstrate that organizations with a high GHRM–change management fit have much higher levels of innovation performance—both in terms of the number of green product innovations (485%) and more sustainable performance improvement (90.5 on average)—than low-integration organizations. Findings also reveal that leadership commitment, employee engagement, organizational learning, and systemic reinforcement are key mediating processes that enhance the effect of GHRM activities. Temporal trajectory analysis demonstrates that integrated organizations go through deployment, consolidation, and optimization phases, as well as increasing returns to performance, with an accelerating trend of 36 months. This paper is important in management research as it fills in gaps in the literature, providing an explanation of how human resource practices facilitate organizational change at the system level. In practice, this study offers evidence-based recommendations to managers who want to establish sustainability-oriented innovation capability by implementing a coordinated GHRM and adaptive change management approach. Though separate research has found that early experiences, parental beliefs, and cognitive skills all influence science learning, science remains an underexamined domain compared to math and reading, despite its policy and societal implications. We integrate and expand on previous research by examining culturally relevant variables in different subgroups of Asian American kindergartners (N = 894). Guided by the Opportunity-Propensity Model of Achievement, we conducted a multi-group path analysis with science scores as the outcome, and propensity (self-regulation, social skills, and prior knowledge), opportunity (e.g., parent and child reading, TV-watching routine), and antecedent variables (e.g., poverty, SES, number of siblings and close grandparents, parental expectations, primary language at home, immigrant status) as predictors. We expected that propensity and opportunity variables would mediate the effects of antecedent variables. We conducted a multi-group path analysis, in which we examined differences between subgroups (China, India, Vietnam, Other East, Other Southeast, Other). Although we did not find heterogeneity in science achievement among subgroups, we found various direct and indirect effects at the subgroup level. Findings suggest that Asian American children may generally benefit from enhanced self-regulatory skills and prior knowledge, though some subgroups may benefit specifically from having fewer TV-watching rules and non-structured activities. We also recommend further disaggregation and reporting of data to better support learners. Full article

Rapid electronic waste (e-waste) accumulation poses a critical challenge for urban sustainability in emerging economies. However, few studies have examined what motivates households to actively participate in formal disposal systems, particularly in contexts where infrastructure remains limited. This study investigates the determinants of e-waste recycling intention and behavior in Surabaya, Indonesia. A total of 168 active recyclers are surveyed and analyzed using structural equation modeling and importance–performance mapping. The findings reveal that awareness of environmental consequences significantly influences both recycling intention and actual behavior. Interestingly, while the perceived cost of recycling significantly shapes residents’ intention to participate, it does not translate into a significant effect on their actual recycling behavior. Similarly, the convenience of recycling services shows no significant influence on either intention or behavior. Mediation analysis confirms that environmental awareness indirectly shapes recycling behavior through its effect on intention. These findings suggest that, among early adopters of formal e-waste recycling in a developing-country context, cognitive drivers such as awareness outweigh structural barriers like cost and convenience in shaping long-term recycling engagement. For policymakers, this underscores the importance of highlighting awareness of e-waste impacts and the benefits of proper recycling, alongside efforts to remove physical and financial barriers for broader segments of the population. Design Consistency and Aesthetic Experience in Digital Health Communication: A Mixed-Method Study of Lifestyle Medicine Product Ecosystems

Background/Objectives: Digital health ecosystems increasingly integrate content, behavioral interventions, and commercial offerings across multiple platforms. While design consistency is established as critical for trust in commercial contexts, its associations with health behavior change and objective health outcomes remain underexplored. This study examined how cross-platform design consistency and aesthetic experience are associated with behavioral adoption through psychological pathways and investigated relationships between design-driven adoption and objective health outcomes. Methods: A convergent mixed-method design comprised five integrated studies: systematic content analysis of short-form videos (N = 200), expert evaluation and user testing (N = 33), a cross-sectional survey (N = 186), semi-structured interviews (N = 15), and a 3-month longitudinal health outcome analysis (N = 143). Structural equation modeling tested pathways from design features through psychological mediators and COM-B components (capability, opportunity, motivation) to behavioral adoption and health outcomes. Results: Design consistency was significantly associated with trust (β = 0.52), perceived value (β = 0.68), and reduced perceived risk (β = −0.41; all p < 0.001). Aesthetic experience predicted emotional resonance (β = 0.71, p < 0.001) and moderated design–trust associations. COM-B components mediated 75% of the intention-to-adoption pathway (total indirect effect = 0.51, p < 0.001). High-adoption users showed clinically meaningful improvements in weight (−2.8 kg, d = 0.89), HbA1c (−0.7%, d = 0.65), fasting glucose (−0.9 mmol/L, d = 0.72), and LDL-C (−0.4 mmol/L, d = 0.51) over three months. Conclusions: Within a single, influencer-centered Chinese digital health ecosystem, design consistency and aesthetic experience were significantly associated with trust, psychological readiness, and behavioral adoption. These findings are observational; randomized controlled trials and multi-site replication are required to establish causal mechanisms and assess generalizability. Full article

DA-UNet: A Direction-Aware U-Net for Leaf Vein Segmentation in Tissue-Cultured Plantlets

For the automation of Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation of tissue-cultured plantlets, accurate leaf vein segmentation is essential. The thin, low-contrast structure of leaf veins frequently leads to fragmented segmentation outputs, despite the proposal of various methodologies for vein segmentation. To address this issue, we propose Direction-Aware U-Net (DA-UNet), an improved U-Net architecture that incorporates a Direction-Aware Context Pooling (DACPool) module and Topology-aware Segmentation loss (TopoSeg loss). The DACPool module explicitly exploits vein orientation to aggregate directional contextual information, while the TopoSeg loss jointly optimizes pixel-level accuracy and topological continuity. DA-UNet achieves efficient leaf vein segmentation with improved continuity and structural integrity, according to evaluations on the self-constructed Tissue-Cultured Plantlet Vein Dataset 2025 (TCPVD2025). Comparative experiment results show that the improved model outperforms PSPNet, DeepLabV3+, U-Net, TransUNet, Swin-UNet, CCNet, and SegNeXt, as evidenced by Recall, Dice, and CONNECT scores of 71.35%, 69.08%, and −2.25, while maintaining competitive Precision of 66.98%. Ablation experiment results provide further evidence for the efficacy of the TopoSeg loss and the DACPool module. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed vein segmentation framework for generating outputs that are both accurate and structurally consistent, thus enabling reliable automated processes for plant genetic transformation.
