Climate extremes threaten the resilience of Eucalyptus plantations, yet hybridization with drought-tolerant species may enhance stress tolerance. This study analyzed xylem anatomical and functional drought responses in commercial Eucalyptus grandis (GG) clones and hybrids: E. grandis × camaldulensis (GC), E. grandis × tereticornis (GT), and E. grandis × urophylla (GU1, GU2). We evaluated vessel traits (water transport), fibers (mechanical support), and wood density (D) in stems and branches. Theoretical stem hydraulic conductivity (kStheo), vessel lumen fraction (F), vessel composition (S), and associations with previous hydraulic and growth data were assessed. While general drought responses occurred, GC had the most distinct xylem profile. This may explain it having the highest performance in different irrigation conditions. Red gum hybrids (GC, GT) maintained kStheo under drought, with stable F and a narrower vessel size, especially in branches. Conversely, GG and GU2 reduced F and S; and stem kStheo declined for a similar F in these clones, indicating vascular reconfiguration aligning the stem with the branch xylem. Almost all clones increased D under drought in any organ, with the highest increase in red gum hybrids. These results reveal diverse anatomical adjustments to drought among clones, partially explaining their growth responses. Full article

Based on the principle of symmetry, we propose a variable step-size FxLMS algorithm with double nonlinear functions cooperative coupling (DNVSS-FxLMS), aiming to optimize the contradiction between convergence rate and steady-state error in the active pressure pulsation control system of hydraulic systems. The algorithm innovatively couples two types of nonlinear mechanisms (rational-fractional and exponential-function-based), constructing a refined error-step mapping relationship to achieve a balance between rapid convergence and low steady-state error. Simulation experiments were conducted considering the complex time-varying operating environment of a simulation-based hydraulic system. The results demonstrate that, when the system undergoes unstable random changes, the DNVSS-FxLMS algorithm converges at least twice as fast as traditional and existing variable step size algorithms, while reducing steady-state error by 2–5 dB. The proposed DNVSS-FxLMS algorithm exhibits significant advantages in convergence rate, steady-state error reduction, and tracking capability, providing a highly efficient and robust solution for real-time active control of hydraulic system pressure pulsation under complex operating conditions. High-viscosity stratified strata, characterized by complex geotechnical properties such as strong cohesion, low permeability, and pronounced layered structures, exhibit significant lateral friction resistance and high-end resistance during steel sheet pile installation. These factors substantially increase construction difficulty and may even cause structural damage. This study addresses two critical mechanical challenges during vibratory pile driving in Fujian Province’s hydraulic engineering project: prolonged high-frequency driving durations, and severe U-shaped steel sheet pile head damage in high-viscosity stratified soils. Employing the Coupled Eulerian–Lagrangian (CEL) numerical method, a systematic investigation was conducted into the penetration resistance, stress distribution, and damage patterns during vibratory pile driving under varying conditions of cohesive soil layer thickness, predrilled hole spacing, and aperture dimensions. The correlation between pile stress and penetration depth was established, with the influence mechanisms of key factors on driving-induced damage in high-viscosity stratified strata under multi-factor coupling effects elucidated. Finally, the feasibility of predrilling techniques for resistance reduction was explored. This study applies the damage prediction model based on the CEL method to U-shaped sheet piles in high-viscosity stratified formations, solving the problem of mesh distortion in traditional finite element methods. The findings provide scientific guidance for steel sheet pile construction in high-viscosity stratified formations, offering significant implications for enhancing construction efficiency, ensuring operational safety, and reducing costs in such challenging geological conditions. Complex mechanical systems, such as agricultural combine harvesters, are subjected to dynamic excitations from multiple coupled sources, compromising structural integrity and operational reliability. Disentangling these vibrations to identify dominant sources and quantify their transmission paths remains a significant engineering challenge. This study proposes a robust diagnostic framework to address this issue. We employed a multi-condition vibration test with sequential source activation and an improved Operational Transfer Path Analysis (OTPA) method. Applied to a harvester chassis, the results revealed that vibration energy is predominantly concentrated in the 0–200 Hz frequency band. Path contribution analysis quantified that the “cutting header → conveyor trough → hydraulic cylinder → chassis frame” path is the most critical contributor to vertical vibration, with a vibration acceleration level of 117.6 dB. Further analysis identified the engine (29.3 Hz) as the primary source for vertical vibration, while lateral vibration was mainly attributed to a coupled resonance between the threshing cylinder (58 Hz) and the engine’s second-order harmonic. This study’s theoretical contribution lies in validating a powerful methodology for vibration source apportionment in complex systems. The aircraft nose-wheel steering system serves as a critical component for ensuring ground taxiing safety and maneuvering efficiency. However, its dynamic control stability faces significant challenges under complex operational conditions. Existing research predominantly focuses on single-discipline modeling, with insufficient in-depth analysis of the coupling effects between hydraulic system dynamics and mechanical dynamics. Traditional PID controllers exhibit limitations in scenarios involving nonlinear time-varying conditions caused by normal load fluctuations of the landing gear buffer strut during high-speed landing phases, including increased control overshoot and inadequate adaptability to abrupt load variations. These issues severely compromise the stability of high-speed deviation correction and overall aircraft safety. To address these challenges, this study constructs a digital twin model based on real aircraft data and innovatively implements multidisciplinary co-simulation via Simcenter 3D, AMESim 2021.1, and MATLAB R2020a. A fuzzy adaptive PID controller is specifically designed to achieve adaptive adjustment of control parameters. Comparative analysis through co-simulation demonstrates that the proposed mechanical–electrical–hydraulic collaborative control strategy significantly reduces response delay, effectively minimizes control overshoot, and decreases hydraulic pressure-fluctuation amplitude by over 85.2%. This work provides a novel methodology for optimizing steering stability under nonlinear interference scenarios, offering substantial engineering applicability and promotion value. Full article

To investigate temporal deformation mechanisms of hydraulic asphalt concrete slope flow under evolving temperatures, this study developed a novel temperature-controlled slope flow intelligent test apparatus. Using this apparatus, slope flow tests were conducted at four temperature levels: 20 °C, 35 °C, 50 °C, and 70 °C. By applying nonlinear dynamics theory, the temporal evolution of slope flow deformation and its nonlinear mechanical characteristics under varying temperatures were thoroughly analyzed. Results indicate that the thermal stability of hydraulic asphalt concrete is synergistically governed by the phase-transition behavior between asphalt binder and aggregates. Temporal evolution of slope flow exhibits a distinct three-stage pattern as follows: rapid growth (0~12 h), where sharp temperature rise disrupts the primary skeleton of coarse aggregates; decelerated growth (12~24 h), where an embryonic secondary skeleton forms and progressively resists deformation; stabilization (>24 h), where reorganization of coarse aggregates is completed, establishing structural equilibrium. The thermal stability temperature influence factor (δ) shows a nonlinear concave growth trend with increasing test temperature. Dynamically, this process transitions sequentially through critical stability, nonlinear stability, period-doubling oscillatory stability, and unsteady states. Full article

Actuators and power electronics are fundamental components of modern control systems, enabling high-precision functionality, enhanced energy efficiency, and sophisticated automation. This study investigates evolving research trends and thematic developments in these areas spanning the last two decades (2005–2024). This study analyzed 1840 peer-reviewed abstracts obtained from the Web of Science database using BERTopic modeling, which integrates transformer-based sentence embeddings with UMAP for dimensionality reduction and HDBSCAN for clustering. The approach also employed class-based TF-IDF calculations, intertopic distance visualization, and hierarchical clustering to clarify topic structures. The analysis revealed a steady increase in research publications, with a marked surge post-2015. From 2005 to 2014, investigations were mainly focused on established areas including piezoelectric actuators, adaptive control, and hydraulic systems. In contrast, the 2015–2024 period saw broader diversification into new topics such as advanced materials, robotic mechanisms, resilient systems, and networked actuator control through communication protocols. The structural topic analysis indicated a shift from a unified to a more differentiated and specialized spectrum of research themes. This study offers a rigorous, data-driven outlook on the increasing complexity and diversity of actuator and power electronics research. The findings are pertinent for researchers, engineers, and policymakers aiming to advance state-of-the-art, sustainable industrial technologies. Full article

The intelligent upgrade of heating systems faces the challenge of accurately identifying high-dimensional pipe-network resistance coefficients; difficulties in accomplishing this can lead to hydraulic imbalance and redundant energy consumption. To address the limitations of traditional Differential Evolution (DE) algorithms under high-dimensional operating conditions, this paper proposes an Improved Differential Evolution Algorithm (SDEIA) incorporating chaotic mapping, adaptive mutation and crossover strategies, and an immune mechanism. Furthermore, a multi-constrained identification model is constructed based on Kirchhoff’s laws. Validation with actual engineering data demonstrates that the proposed method achieves a lower average relative error in resistance coefficients and exhibits a more concentrated error distribution. SDEIA provides a high-precision tool for multi-heat-source networking and dynamic regulation in heating systems, facilitating low-carbon and intelligent upgrades. Full article

Deep drilling and horizontal wells, as important means of unconventional oil and gas development, face problems with the high energy consumption but low removal efficiency of traditional well washing equipment, the uneven cleaning of horizontal well intervals, and an insufficient degree of automation. This paper proposes a novel hydraulic drive well washing device which consists of two main units. The wellbore cleaning unit comprises a hydraulic drive cutting–flushing module, a well cleaning mode-switching module, and a filter storage module. The unit uses hydraulic and mechanical forces to perform combined cleaning to prevent mud and sand from settling. By controlling the flow direction of the well washing fluid, it can directly switch between normal and reverse washing modes in the downhole area, and at the same time, it can control the working state of corresponding modules. The assembly control unit includes the chain lifting module and the arm assembly module, which can lift and move the device through the chain structure, allow for the rapid assembly of equipment through the use of a mechanical arm, and protect the reliability of equipment through the use of a centering structure. The device converts some of the hydraulic power into mechanical force, effectively improving cleaning and plugging removal efficiency, prolonging the downhole continuous working time of equipment, reducing manual operation requirements, and comprehensively improving cleaning efficiency and energy utilization efficiency. Anaerobic digestion (AD) has long been valued for producing a biogas–digestate pair, yet its profitability is tightening. Next-generation AD biorefineries now position syngas both as a supplementary feedstock and as a springboard to capture high-value intermediates, hydrogen (H2) and volatile fatty acids (VFA). This review dissects how complex natural consortia “decide” between hydrogenogenesis and acetogenesis when CO, H2, and CO2 co-exist in the feedstocks, bridging molecular mechanisms with process-scale levers. The map of the bioenergetic contest between the biological water–gas shift reaction and Wood–Ljungdahl pathways is discussed, revealing how electron flow, thermodynamic thresholds, and enzyme inhibition dictate microbial “decision”. Kinetic evidence from pure and mixed cultures is integrated with practical operating factors (gas composition and pressure, pH–temperature spectrum, culture media composition, hydraulic retention time, and cell density), which can bias consortia toward the desired product. The electrification of road vehicles is a relatively mature sector, while other areas of mobility, such as construction machinery, are just beginning their transition to electric solutions. This work presents the design and realization of an integrated drive system specifically developed for retrofitting fan drives in heavy machinery, like bulldozers and tractors, utilizing existing 48 VDC batteries. By replacing or complementing internal combustion and hydraulic technologies with electric solutions, significant advantages in efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and versatility can be achieved. Focusing on the fan drive system addresses the critical challenge of thermal management in high ambient temperatures and harsh environments, particularly given the high current requirements for 3kW-class applications. A sensorless architecture has been selected to enhance reliability by eliminating mechanical position sensors. The developed fan drive has been extensively tested both on a braking bench and in real-world applications, demonstrating its effectiveness and robustness. Future work will extend this prototype to electrify additional onboard hydraulic motors in these machines, further advancing the electrification of heavy-duty equipment and improving overall efficiency and environmental impact. This study examines the use of a mass-abatement scalable system with managed aquifer recharge (MAR-MASS) as a sustainable solution for restoring salinized aquifers and improving water quality by removing dissolved salts. It offers a practical remediation approach for aquifers affected by salinization in coastal regions, agricultural areas, and contaminated sites, where variable-density flow poses a challenge. Numerical simulations assessed hydrogeological properties such as hydraulic conductivity, anisotropy, specific yield, mechanical dispersion, and molecular diffusion. A conceptual model integrated hydraulic conditions with spatial and temporal discretization using the FLOPY API for MODFLOW 6 and the IFM API for FEFLOW 10. Python algorithms were run within the high-performance computing (HPC) server, executing simulations in parallel to efficiently process a large number of scenarios, including both preprocessing input data and post-processing results. The study simulated 6950 scenarios, each modeling flow and transport processes over 3000 days of method implementation and focusing on mass extraction efficiency under different initial salinity conditions (3.5 to 35 kg/m3). The results show that the MAR-MASS effectively removed salts from aquifers, with higher hydraulic conductivity prolonging mass removal efficiency. Of the scenarios, 88% achieved potability (0.5 kg/m3) in under five years; among these, 79% achieved potability within two years, and 92% of cases with initial concentrations of 3.5–17.5 kg/m3 reached potability within 480 days. This study advances scientific knowledge by providing a robust model for optimizing managed aquifer recharge, with practical applications in rehabilitating salinized aquifers and improving water quality. Future research may explore MAR-MASS adaptation for diverse hydrogeological contexts and its long-term performance. Full article

A mass abatement scalable system through managed aquifer recharge (MAR-MASS) improves mass extraction from groundwater with a variable-density flow. This method is superior to conventional injection systems because it promotes uniform mass displacement, reduces density gradients, and increases mass extraction efficiency over time. Simulations of various scenarios involving hydrogeologic variables, including hydraulic conductivity, vertical anisotropy, specific yield, mechanical dispersion, molecular diffusion, and mass concentration in aquifers, have identified critical variables and parameters influencing mass transport interactions to optimize the system. MAR-MASS is adaptable across hydrogeologic conditions in aquifers that are 25–75 m thick, comprising unconsolidated materials with hydraulic conductivities between 5 and 100 m/d. It is effective in scenarios near coastal areas or in aquifers with variable-density flows within the continent, with mass concentrations of salts or solutes ranging from 3.5 to 35 kg/m3. This system employs a modular approach that offers scalable and adaptable solutions for mass extraction at specific locations. The integration of programming tools, such as Python 3.13.2, along with technological strategies utilizing parallelization techniques and high-performance computing, has facilitated the development and validation of MAR-MASS in mass extraction with remarkable efficiency. This study confirmed the utility of these tools for performing calculations, analyzing information, and managing databases in hydrogeologic models. Combining these technologies is critical for achieving precise and efficient results that would not be achievable without them, emphasizing the importance of an advanced technological approach in high-level hydrogeologic research. By enhancing groundwater quality within a comparatively short time frame, expanding freshwater availability, and supporting sustainable aquifer recharge practices, MAR-MASS is essential for improving water resource management. The fourth member of the Shahejie Formation in the Leijia area of the western depression of the Liaohe Oilfield represents a typical shale oil reservoir. However, post-hydraulic fracturing operations in this region are often hindered by significant discrepancies in well productivity, low fracturing fluid flowback efficiency, and an unclear understanding of reservoir damage mechanisms during fracturing. These challenges have become major bottlenecks restricting the efficient exploration and development of shale oil in this block. In this study, a series of laboratory-simulated experiments were conducted to investigate the primary mechanisms of formation damage induced by fracturing fluids in shale oil reservoirs. An experimental methodology for evaluating reservoir damage caused by fracturing fluids was developed accordingly. Results indicate that guar gum-based fracturing fluids exhibit good compatibility with formation-sensitive minerals, resulting in relatively minor damage. In contrast, capillary trapping of the aqueous phase leads to moderate damage, while polymer adsorption and retention cause low to moderate impairment. The damage associated with fracturing fluid invasion into fractures is found to be moderately high. Overall, the dominant damage mechanisms of guar gum fracturing fluids in the Shahejie Member 4 shale oil reservoir are identified as aqueous phase trapping and polymer adsorption. Based on the identified damage mechanisms, corresponding optimization strategies for fracturing fluid formulations are proposed. The findings of this research provide critical insights for improving shale oil development strategies in the Leijia area. Full article

An electro-hydraulic servo loading system for a pavement mechanical properties test device was designed. The simulation analysis and test results showed that the PID control met the design requirements, but the output’s maximum error did not. Therefore, a fast terminal sliding mode control strategy with an extended state observer (ESO) was proposed. A tracking differentiator was constructed to obtain smooth differential signals from the input signals. The order of the system was reduced by considering the third and higher orders of the system as the total disturbance, and the states and the total disturbance of the system were estimated using the ESO. The fast terminal sliding mode control achieved fast convergence of the system within a limited time. The simulation results showed that the proposed control strategy improved the system accuracy and anti-disturbance ability, and system control performance was optimized. Full article
