Fuel price increases have long been a contentious issue in Indonesia, sparking intense public and political debates. This study examines how digital media, particularly Kompas.com and Tempo.co, shape public discourse on fuel price hikes through mediatization. Using discourse network analysis, this study compares the political narratives surrounding fuel price increases during the administrations of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (2013) and Joko Widodo (2022). The findings reveal a shift in dominant discourse—opposition to price hikes was prominent in both periods, with government authority and economic justification emphasized in 2013, whereas concerns over rising living costs and social unrest dominated in 2022. This study highlights how mediatization has transformed policymaking from deliberative discussions into fragmented media battles, where digital platforms amplify competing narratives rather than facilitating consensus. Kompas.com predominantly featured counter-discourses, while Tempo.co exhibited stronger pro-government narratives in 2013. This study suggests that while digital media plays a crucial role in shaping policy perceptions, it does not necessarily translate into policy influence. It contributes to the broader understanding of the media’s role in policy debates. It underscores the need for more strategic government communication to manage public expectations and mitigate political unrest surrounding fuel price adjustments. Full article

The intersection of sports and natural forests and green spaces represents an emerging interdisciplinary field with implications for public health, environmental science, and sustainable land management and refers to the variety of cultural ecosystem services demanded by people from ecosystems. This manuscript presents a systematic bibliometric and thematic analysis of 148 publications for the period 1993–2024 identified through Web of Science and Scopus, aiming to evaluate the current state of research on sports activities conducted in natural forest environments. Findings indicated a marked increase in scientific interest of this topic over the past two decades, with key contributions from countries such as England, Germany, China, and the United States. Researchers most frequently examined sports such as hiking, trail running, mountain biking, and orienteering for their capacity to provide physiological and psychological benefits, reduce stress, and enhance mental well-being. The literature analysis highlights ecological concerns, particularly those associated with habitat disturbance, biodiversity loss, and conflicts between recreation and conservation. Six principal research themes were identified: sports in urban forests, sports tourism, hunting and fishing, recreational sports, health benefits, and environmental impacts. Keyword and co-authorship analyses revealed a multidisciplinary knowledge base with evolving thematic focuses. In conclusion, the need for integrated approaches that incorporate ecological impact assessment, stakeholder perspectives, and adaptive forest governance to ensure sustainable recreational use of natural forest ecosystems is underlined. This study aimed to re-evaluate a historical war supply route within the context of cultural tourism, to revitalize its natural, historical, and cultural values, and to integrate it with existing hiking and trekking routes. Remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) technologies were utilized, and land surveys were conducted to support the analysis and validate the existing data. Data for slope, one of the most critical factors for hiking route selection, were generated, and the optimal route between the starting and destination points was identified using least cost path analysis (LCPA). Historical, touristic, and recreational rest stops along the route were mapped with precise coordinates, and both the existing and the newly generated routes were assessed in terms of their accessibility to these points. Field validation was carried out based on the experiences of expert hikers. According to the results, the length of the existing hiking route was determined to be 15.72 km, while the newly developed trekking route measured 17.36 km. These two routes overlap for 7.75 km, with 9.78 km following separate paths in a round-trip scenario. It was concluded that the existing route is more suitable for hiking, whereas the newly developed route is better suited for trekking. Full article

Background. Healthcare workers’ health can be influenced by physical, psychological, social, emotional, and work-related stress. MountainTherapy Activities (MTAs) are an integrated therapeutic approach that uses nature to enhance their well-being through group activities like hiking. This cross-sectional study examines well-being levels among Italian Departments of Mental Health workers who do or do not participate in MTAs. It hypothesizes that MTAs may reduce burnout, boost psychological resilience, and increase job satisfaction. Methods. The study involved 167 healthcare workers from 11 Italian Local Health Authorities, divided into MTA (who take part in MTA; n = 83) and non-MTA (who have never participated in MTA; n = 84) groups. They completed five validated questionnaires on psychological distress, burnout, resilience, job engagement, and psychological safety. Data were compared between groups, considering MTA frequency and well-being differences during MTAs versus workplace activities. Results. MTA participants scored higher in psychological well-being (t(117.282) = −1.721, p = 0.044) and general dysphoria (t(116.955) = −1.721, p = 0.042). Additionally, during MTAs, they showed greater job engagement (vigor: t(66) = −8.322, p < 0.001; devotion: t(66) = −4.500, p < 0.001; emotional involvement: t(66) = −8.322, p = 0.002) and psychological safety (general: t(66) = −5.819, p < 0.001; self-expression: t(66) = −5.609, p < 0.001) compared to other activities. Conclusions. MTAs can be considered a valid intervention for the promotion of the mental health of healthcare workers. Full article

Against the backdrop of increasingly severe global climate change, the automotive industry, as a carbon-intensive sector, has found its low-carbon transformation crucial for achieving the “double carbon” goals. This paper constructs manufacturer decision-making models under an oligopolistic market scenario for the single dual-credit policy and the “dual-credit + carbon cap-and-trade” policy, revealing the nonlinear impacts of new energy vehicle (NEV) credit trading prices, carbon trading prices, and credit ratio requirements on manufacturers’ pricing, emission reduction effort levels, and profits. The results indicate the following: (1) Under the “carbon cap-and-trade + dual-credit” policy, manufacturers can balance emission reduction costs and NEV production via the carbon trading market to maximize profits, with lower emission reduction effort levels than under the single dual-credit policy. (2) A rise in credit trading prices prompts hybrid manufacturers (producing both fuel vehicles and NEVs) to increase NEV production and reduce fuel vehicle output; higher NEV credit ratio requirements raise fuel vehicle production costs and prices, suppressing consumer demand. (3) An increase in carbon trading prices raises production costs for both fuel vehicles and NEVs, leading to decreased market demand; hybrid manufacturers reduce emission reduction efforts, while others transfer costs through price hikes to boost profits. (4) Hybrid manufacturers face high carbon emission costs due to excessive actual fuel consumption, driving them to enhance emission reduction efforts and promote low-carbon technological innovation. Although the topic of trampling of alpine vegetation has been addressed by many authors in recent years, many unanswered questions still remain. The generalization of vegetation response patterns to trampling would be valuable, especially for problematic alpine areas, which are unsuitable for large hiking loads. Such an area is the limestone Belianske Tatras, which has been closed to tourists since 1978. Only one trail has been accessible in the area since 1993 as a one-way trail, and since 2008 it has been used as an educational two-way trail. Since there is renewed discussion about making the Belianske Tatras accessible to tourists, we sought answers to the following questions: (1) regenerated communities are more resistant to trampling than the native ones; (2) individual species in different communities react to trampling in the same way; and (3) some species can disappear or become extinct after being trampled. We conducted research in the form of an experiment according to the standard Cole and Bayfield protocol. We trampled three plant communities in 2008, treating them as native, and in 2022, treating them as regenerated. The regenerated communities appeared to be more resistant, although this came at the expense of some species disappearing or becoming extinct as a delayed response. Re-opening the area could be considered. Full article

Construction costs have increased significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic due to supply chain disruption, labour shortages, and construction material price hikes. The market is increasingly demanding innovative construction methods that can save construction costs, reduce construction time, and minimise waste and carbon emission. The prefabrication system has been used for years in industrial construction, resulting in better performance in regard to structure stability, the control of wastage, and the optimisation of construction time and cost. In addition, prefabrication has had a positive contribution on resource utilisation in the construction industry. There are various types of prefabricated wall systems. However, the majority of comparative studies have focused on comparing each prefabrication wall system against the conventional construction system, while limited research has been conducted to compare different prefabrication structures. This study examined four prominent prefabricated wall systems, i.e., precast walls, tilt-up walls, prefabricated steel-frame walls, and on-site-cut steel-frame walls, to determine which one is more suitable for the construction of industrial buildings to minimise cost, time delay, and labourer utilisation on construction sites, as well as to enhance structure durability, construction efficiency, and sustainability. One primary case project and five additional projects were included in this study. For the primary case project, data were collected and analysed; for example, a subcontractor cost comparison for supply and installation was conducted, and shop drawings, construction procedures, timelines, and site photos were collected. For the additional five projects, the overall cost data were compared. The main research finding of this study is that factory-made precast walls and tilt-up wall panels require similar construction time. However, on average, tilt-up prefabrication construction can reduce the cost by around 23.55%. It was also found that prefabricated frame walls provide cost and time savings of around 39% and 10.5%, respectively. These findings can provide architects, developers, builders, suppliers, regulators, and other stakeholders with a comprehensive insight into selecting a method of wall construction that can achieve greater efficiency, cost savings, and environmental sustainability in the construction of industrial and commercial buildings. The amount of energy consumed worldwide is raising at a startling rate. This has led to a global energy crisis and a hike in fuel prices and has caused environmental jeopardy. Renewable energy resources offer a promising solution to the above situation. Solar energy is examined to be the most liberal source of renewable energy. The efficiency of solar PV cells show nonlinear characteristics and deliver poor performance. Consequently, it is imperative to use the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique to extract the optimum amount of energy from photovoltaic (PV) cells. Perturb and Observe (P&O) and Incremental Conductance (INC) are examples of MPPT algorithms. The performance of MPPT schemes below varying climatic ambience should be predominantly considered. The workings of these schemes under various load conditions becomes critical to analyze. This work deals with this issue and compares the conventional P&O MPPT and INC MPPT schemes for various solar irradiation and load conditions and designing solar panels optimized for maximum power generation. The designed MPPT scheme is carried out in the control circuit of a boost converter, evaluating and designing a converter to convert solar panel DC power into grid-compatible AC power. By analyzing different methods for managing and tracking PV power, this method proves to be fast and gives better results under changes in solar insolation. Full article

Trail erosion is a global issue, particularly in mountainous regions, that is largely driven by increased tourist flows and uncontrolled trampling. Our study was conducted in the Bucegi Mountains, Southern Carpathians, Romania, along three of the most frequented hiking trails, each with varying levels of difficulty. Two of these trails cross both the forest and alpine zones, and the other crosses only the alpine zone: Jepii Mici, connecting the Bușteni resort (960 m a.s.l.) to Babele Chalet (2200 m a.s.l.); Jepii Mari, linking Bușteni resort to the National Sports Complex Piatra Arsă (1960 m a.s.l.); and the trail between Babele Chalet and Omu Peak (2505 m a.s.l.). Our analysis focused on morphometric parameters, the volume of displaced soil, and associated geohazards, serving as indicators for assessing the degradation state of hiking trails and their suitability for mountain biking and tourist traffic. The findings reveal a high degree of trail degradation, highlighted by increased trail width, the development of parallel trail sections due to dispersed tourist traffic, areas with abrupt gradient changes, and sections severely affected by erosion, resulting in significant volumes of displaced soil. These factors hinder effective tourist traffic, including hiking and mountain biking, and degrade the mountainous landscape. Conversely, the results can be useful for both monitoring annual trail erosion rates and facilitating tourist access, tailored to individual and group interests, as well as the physical readiness of each tourist, to offer a more pleasurable and sustainable experience. The accessibility of nature trails for people with motor disabilities and impairments stands as a significant challenge for inclusive tourism. In the present study, we would like to present a review of research, approaches, and solutions to enable people with motor impairments to enjoy nature trails independently or with assistance. The study is conducted from the perspective of public bodies that aim to reduce the accessibility barriers for People with Disabilities (PwDs) by adapting and improving the conditions of the trails and by providing clear and comprehensive information about the difficulties that hikers may encounter on a trail while using a specific aid. The paper initially presents the wide variety of aids for outdoor mobility, including both those to be used independently (i.e., self-propelled wheelchairs that can be equipped with additional small wheels, off-road wheels and/or auxiliary drives) and those that require assistance (e.g., single-wheeled wheelchairs). Then, we shift focus onto the difficulty classification of trails for PwDs, analysing papers and guidelines that tried to define objective evaluation criteria such as the slope, the trail surface, and the length of the sloping sections. Starting from these studies, the paper proposes a synthesis of the different classifications that consider, for the first time, all the aids available on the market, thus filling the gaps of the single studies. In the last sections, we present some national and international guidelines with tailored and practical solutions to improve the accessibility of nature trails and some studies about the inclusive planning that directly involves PwDs, as well as on the need for a better training of tourism service providers. The present work aims to stimulate a debate on the barriers and opportunities related to the accessibility of hiking trails, contributing to making nature a truly accessible experience for all. Auxiliary transport vehicles are essential components of the underground mine auxiliary transportation system, primarily used for tasks such as personnel and material transportation. However, the underground environment is complex, and unstructured roads exhibit significant randomness. Traditional passive hydropneumatic suspension systems struggle to strike a balance between ride comfort and stability, resulting in insufficient adaptability of auxiliary transport vehicles in such challenging underground conditions. To address this issue, this paper proposes a multi-mode hydropneumatic suspension control strategy based on the identification of road surface grades in underground mines. The strategy dynamically adjusts the controller’s parameters in real time according to the identified road surface grades, thereby enhancing vehicle adaptability in complex environments. First, the overall framework of the active suspension control system is constructed, and models of the hydropneumatic spring, vehicle dynamics, and road surface are developed. Then, a road surface grade identification method based on Long Short-Term Memory networks is proposed. Finally, a fuzzy-logic-based sliding mode controller is designed to dynamically map the road surface grade information to the controller’s parameters. Three control objectives are set for different road grades, and the multi-objective optimization of the sliding mode’s surface coefficients and fuzzy-logic-based rule parameters is performed using the Hiking Optimization Algorithm. This approach enables the adaptive adjustment of the suspension system under various road conditions. The simulations indicate that when contrasted with conventional inactive hydropneumatic suspensions, the proposed method reduces the sprung mass’s acceleration by 21.2%, 18.86%, and 17.44% on B-, D-, and F-grade roads, respectively, at a speed of 10 km/h. This significant reduction in the vibrational response validates the potential application of the proposed method in underground mine environments. Full article

Objectives: This single-arm, pre–post intervention study with a three-month follow-up aimed to determine whether a ten-day outdoor camp combining mixed-modality physical activity and time-restricted feeding elicits positive changes in multiple body-composition outcome measures and whether those changes persist at three-month follow-up. Methods: Forty healthy undergraduates (18 male, 22 female) participated in a 10-day outdoor camp that combined multi-modal physical activities (rock climbing and bouldering, swimming, hiking, applied paddling, survival skills, etc.) with a 13 h daily time-restricted feeding window. Body fat percentage, skeletal muscle percentage, body mass, total body-water percentage, visceral fat level, and skeletal muscle index were measured using the InBody 270 at baseline, immediately post-camp, and at the three-month follow-up. Results: Mixed-effects models with random intercepts for subject revealed significant reductions in body fat percentage (β = −1.63, p < 0.001) and visceral fat level (β = −0.72, p = 0.001), alongside increases in skeletal muscle percentage (β = 1.02, p < 0.001), skeletal muscle index (β = 0.30, p < 0.001), and total body-water percentage (β = 1.19, p < 0.001) from baseline to post-camp; no outcomes differed between baseline and follow-up and no time × sex interactions were observed. Conclusions: These findings indicate that a brief, intensive nature-based intervention can drive rapid, multidimensional improvements in body composition, but structured maintenance is required to sustain benefits. This study seeks to identify the factors driving household food insecurity in Cameroon during the COVID-19 pandemic, examine the effects of coping strategies on household resilience, and explore complementarities among these strategies. We used data from the COVID-19 panel surveys conducted by the National Institute of Statistics of Cameroon. Three models are estimated: an ordered logit model for food insecurity factors, a logit model for the impact of coping strategies, and a multivariate probit model for complementarities. The findings reveal that food insecurity is exacerbated by conflict, socio economic shocks (e.g., loss of employment, crop theft), and price hikes. About 28.59% of households are resilient, mainly due to past savings, cash transfers, free food, and in-kind transfers. The study emphasizes the importance of social and governmental support to mitigate food insecurity during crises, and underscores the need for monitoring socio-economic conditions during pandemics and other crises. Distributed generation (DG) within the electrical distribution network (DN) has witnessed significant expansion globally, attributed to both technological advancements and environmental benefits. However, uncoordinated integration of DG in suboptimal locations can negatively influence the operational efficacy through issues such as increased power losses, voltage fluctuations, and protection coordination issues of the DN. Consequently, the optimal allocation of DG represents a critical element of consideration. Furthermore, the integration of network reconfiguration (NR) alongside DG units has the potential to significantly enhance system performance with only the existing infrastructure. Therefore, this work focuses on improving DN performance with optimal DG integration along with NR. The considered objectives are minimization of active power loss (APL) and cost of annual energy loss (CAEL). CAEL minimization by DG allocation and NR under multiple load models is addressed for the first time in this study. The efficacy of the employed hiking optimization algorithm (HOA) is illustrated through its application to the IEEE 33-Bus DN under various scenarios of DG operational power factors (PFs). A comparative analysis between the HOA and other reported methodologies is presented. Additionally, the results obtained for CAEL in case 6 (DG allocation with NR) are approximately 22.3% better that the best reported results of CAEL without NR, thereby affirming the usefulness of integrating the NR during DG allocation. This study investigates the influence of experiential programs (EPs) on enhancing consumer experience offerings at luxury resorts. EPs encompass a variety of activities, amenities, and services designed to immerse consumers in the local culture, scenery, and authenticity. The research focuses explicitly on EPs related to fitness, evening entertainment, children’s activities, and personalized experiences. By analyzing data from 30 resorts, significant trends and typologies within each category of EP emerged, highlighting the diverse ways in which resorts meet consumers’ desires for immersive and status-enhancing experiences. Valuable insights were gained through semi-structured interviews with two hoteliers, providing a deeper understanding of the strategic integration of EPs. Fitness EPs highlight activities, including hiking and yoga, whereas evening entertainment encompasses experiences like mixology, music, and astronomy education. For children, EPs prioritize cultural immersion through hands-on experiences, while personalized EPs—including romance packages and private dining—allow for consumer exclusivity. The research underscores how these EPs align with contemporary trends in conspicuous consumption, where luxury resorts leverage unique, high-quality, and culturally rich experiences to reinforce affluence and societal standing. The findings emphasize that EPs are a vital strategy for luxury resorts to differentiate themselves in a competitive market, enhancing consumer satisfaction, loyalty, and positive self-image.
