Multinomial Logistic Analysis of SMEs Offering Green Products and Services in the Alps–Adriatic Macroregion

We investigate what drives small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Alps–Adriatic macro-region to offer green products and services. A sample of 2305 SMEs from Flash Eurobarometer 498 is analyzed with a multinomial logit model that distinguishes firms that already offer green products/services, those planning to do so within two years, and those with no such intention. SMEs implementing ≥ 5 resource-efficiency actions are 75% more likely to offer green products/services (RRR = 1.75, p < 0.05). An increase in the share of green jobs to >30% of staff triples that likelihood (RRR = 3.65, p < 0.01). Selling only services reduces the probability by 17%. Country dummies show Austria and Slovenia as early movers, while Croatia lags. This is the first study to apply a three-outcome model to green market activity in this macroregion, thus revealing nonlinear and country-specific patterns that a binary approach would mask. This study has multiple implications for entrepreneurial practice: (i) entrepreneurs should focus on high-leverage resource-efficiency bundles (energy, waste, circular design) rather than single actions; (ii) policymakers should combine financial incentives with green-skills vouchers to accelerate adoption in service-oriented SMEs. This study integrates the concept of green entrepreneurship into the entrepreneurship education system, and grasps the correct way to promote the green entrepreneurship intention of college students. The model of promoting college students’ green entrepreneurship intention with policy support is constructed to answer the following research questions: what is the internal mechanism of green entrepreneurship education in promoting green entrepreneurship intention of college students in Guangxi, and how does green entrepreneurship policy affect its internal mechanism? Through a questionnaire survey of 304 college students from major cities in Guangxi, China, this paper investigates how college green entrepreneurship education affects college students’ green entrepreneurship intention through the desirability and feasibility of green entrepreneurship and actively explores the regulatory role of the institutional environment. The results show that the desirability and feasibility of green entrepreneurship play a mediating role between green entrepreneurship education and the promotion of college students’ green entrepreneurship intention, and the regulatory environment positively moderates the positive effect of desirability and feasibility of green entrepreneurship on green entrepreneurship intention. This study contributes to the literature on green entrepreneurship. On the one hand, by studying the mediating mechanism of green entrepreneurship desirability and feasibility, this study has added empirical evidence on the promotion effect of green entrepreneurship education on the green entrepreneurship intention of college students. On the other hand, this study emphasizes the impact of policy regulation on the strengthening process of college students’ green entrepreneurial intention. This study will help to build a characteristic and effective green entrepreneurship education system in colleges and universities, enhance college students’ green entrepreneurship intention and green core competitiveness, and drive them to enhance their sense of social responsibility and build “green development” values. This study examined the role of green entrepreneurial self-efficacy (GESE) through the lens of dynamic capabilities in innovation and adaptation. The research model postulated a relationship between the reconfiguration of entrepreneurial capabilities necessary to achieve a sustainable business model in the market. A structured questionnaire was adopted, validated, and disseminated among 917 entrepreneurs in Spain and Portugal (Iberian Peninsula). The findings confirmed a significant positive effect of dynamic capabilities on green and sustainable entrepreneurial intentions, mediated by self-efficacy. The study’s results indicate significant relationships between the capabilities studied, and that innovation and adaptation capabilities influence green entrepreneurial self-efficacy. These results are fundamental in guiding the market towards business models that need to be reconfigured to generate value through social impact. We offer management implications for organizations, academics, and other stakeholders, such as policymakers, so that the needs of the green market in the Iberian Peninsula can be met more efficiently. As inculcating green intention and behaviour among individuals, particularly potential entrepreneurs (students), has recently become a hot topic of discussion, it is essential to contribute to this debate by offering empirical evidence. Accordingly, the objective of this study is to examine how green mindfulness (GM) and spiritual intelligence (SPI) enhance environmental self-identity (ESI). This study also examined the role of GM and SPI in developing green entrepreneurial intention (GEI). The study investigated whether ESI could mediate the relationship between GM, SPI, and GEI. The study gathered information from 202 students at King Faisal University’s Business Administration and Applied Colleges in Saudi Arabia using a self-administered questionnaire for these objectives. The study employed partial least-squares structural equation modeling to analyse the data. The study revealed some interesting findings. It was discovered that GM has a direct and significant positive association with ESI and GEI. Furthermore, it was also reported that SPI has a positive and significant connection with ESI, but no positive relationship with GEI. ESI revealed the existence of a meaningful positive relationship with GEI. Finally, when examining the mediating role played by the ESI, the study reported the inability of the ESI to mediate the relationship between GM and GEI. At the same time, it was able to fully mediate between SPI and GEI. The study provides a set of recommendations for policymakers and other stakeholders. The study is considered one of few studies investigating the key factors influencing GEI among students. Full article

With the increasingly negative impact of environmental pollution on human production and life caused by the non-green operation of enterprises, a new generation of returnee entrepreneurs is called upon to take on regional environmental protection and global ecological improvement. This study examined the impact of returnee entrepreneurship education (REE). A conceptual model is constructed based on REE as the core factor of environmental sustainability and uses the occurrence of green entrepreneurial behavior among new university graduates returning to their hometowns as an evaluation basis. Convenience sampling was applied, and the relevant data were collected from 358 new university graduates in Jiangsu Province, China who received REE during their university years. Empirical analysis based on partial least squares structural equation modeling shows that REE evokes a commitment to the environment (CE) and has an indirect significant impact on green returnee entrepreneurial behavior (GREB) through institutional support and intention. However, a CE did not have a significant direct effect. The findings of this study have significant reference value for decision-makers in government departments in developing countries, universities, and many social groups that are actively responding to the United Nations Sustainable Development Initiative. The aim of this paper is to show the crucial role that universities play in preparing future green entrepreneurs, as well as the importance of social capital in ensuring the necessary resources and emotional support to develop a green entrepreneurial intention among young graduates. This paper also seeks to show as well the importance of psychological capital as a variable between the academic support offered by universities and the development of a green entrepreneurial intention, and between the social capital of entrepreneurs and the development of a green entrepreneurial intention. The results of this research show strong support for green entrepreneurship through university programs and courses, which clearly have a positive impact on the intention to create green projects. Similarly, the social capital of recent graduates provides not only the necessary resources, but also moral, emotional, and material support. Moreover, green entrepreneurial intentions depend on the positive psychological capital that can be developed in an individual, which is precisely the feeling of personal efficacy and optimism about success. Thus, psychological capital moderates both the relationship between academic support for entrepreneurship and the intention to create green projects, and also the relationship between the latter variable and entrepreneurial social capital. Green entrepreneurship has an extensive role in solving environmental issues and contributes significantly to friendly environmental practices. In this study, we examined the effect of green entrepreneurial intention on green entrepreneurial behavior through the mediating influence of university entrepreneurial support and moderating the role of social support. The nature of this study was cross-sectional, and data were gathered from a sample of 438 women university students. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied to test the proposed hypotheses. The findings indicate that green entrepreneurial intention significantly impacts green entrepreneurial behavior. Meanwhile, results reveal that the indirect effect of university entrepreneurial support on the relationship between green entrepreneurial intention and green entrepreneurial behavior was positive and significant. Moreover, findings show that social support positively moderated the link between green entrepreneurial intention and green entrepreneurial behavior. Lastly, this study concludes with practical implications for educators and policymakers in Pakistan. Full article

Small businesses are thought to be largely responsible for environmental pollution despite the fact that businesses of all shapes and sizes contribute to this issue. This research explores how important factors such as knowledge sharing (KS) and green entrepreneurial intention (GEI) might help small businesses in Saudi Arabia develop and implement green innovation (GI). It also seeks to determine whether GI is a mediating variable that explains the connection between GEI, KS, and social performance (SP). Accordingly, an online survey was used to collect responses from 284 small entrepreneurs in Saudi Arabia engaged in various types of business activities. The study used partial least squares structural equation modelling for data analysis and hypothesis testing. The results show that GI considerably influences SP while also having a significant link with both GEI and KS. Further, the study reveals that the relationship between GEI, KS, and SP is mediated by GI. The study offers a plethora of suggestions to various stakeholders generally and to Saudi authorities specifically. Full article

Given the crucial role of entrepreneurial optimism (EO) in prompting university students’ green entrepreneurial intentions (GEI), scholars are still striving to explore the causal mechanism that can facilitate the underlying relationship. Based on the social cognitive theory, we hypothesize that individual’s psychological resources, entrepreneurial resilience (ER) and entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE), mediate the association between EO and GEI. In addition, this study seeks to investigate the impact of sustainability orientation (SO) in the relationship between EO and GEI. Data for this study have been collected from Chinese university students in their final years. The authors used variance-based Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to test the proposed hypotheses. The findings indicate that EO significantly influences GEI. Further, ER and ESE significantly mediate the link between EO and GEI. Moreover, this study finds that SO significantly moderates the relationship between EO and GEI such that the association is stronger at high levels of SO and vice versa. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no prior studies have tested these relationships. The findings suggest that the proposed model can be utilized by practitioners and policy makers to facilitate the execution of green entrepreneurship among university students. Full article

Business culture is shifting rapidly as a result of discussions emphasizing green entrepreneurship, which emphasizes ecological sustainability. Sustainable entrepreneurship plays a crucial role in predicting economic growth in a world where enterprise is driven by climate change and environmental degradation. Despite the positive contributions of eco-friendly corporate operations, there is still limited knowledge about sustainable entrepreneurial intentions and their environmental value. Current research examines the impact of attitudes toward sustainable entrepreneurship, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norms, as well as environmental value on sustainable entrepreneurial intentions. The study uses survey responses from 418 students in Lahore and Faisalabad, Pakistan, and evaluates a revised version of the theory of planned behavior using structural equation modeling. The findings of the study suggest that environmental value has a direct and indirect impact on attitudes towards sustainable entrepreneurship, and perceived behavioral control and environmental value support sustainable entrepreneurial intentions. However, subjective norms were found to be insignificant in influencing sustainable entrepreneurial intentions. Furthermore, this study explores the connection between environmental values, attitudes towards sustainable entrepreneurship, and how perceived behavioral control is moderated by entrepreneurial experience. Entrepreneurs with prior experience might expect a stronger correlation between their environmental values and their desire to launch a sustainable venture. Policymakers and managers need to prioritize the development of ecological values and sustainable entrepreneurial intentions to support the growth of sustainable enterprises. The findings have significant implications for developing effective strategies to foster sustainable development in businesses. Full article

Given the escalated gravity of interest in green start-ups in recent years, extant research on green entrepreneurial behavior has investigated the influence of green entrepreneurial intention in stimulating behavior. However, factors that shape green entrepreneurial intention warrant empirical scrutiny to provide a more nuanced understanding of how green entrepreneurial intention transforms into green entrepreneurial behavior. This study aims to explore the role of an individual’s cognitive mechanism, i.e., green mindfulness, in predicting university students’ green entrepreneurial behavior. The study examines a serial mediation model of green intrinsic motivation and green entrepreneurial intention in the relationship between green mindfulness and green entrepreneurial behavior. In addition, the study investigates the moderating role of spiritual intelligence in the direct relationship between green mindfulness and green intrinsic motivation, and the indirect association between green mindfulness and green entrepreneurial intention through green intrinsic motivation. The study adopts a time-lagged design to collect data from university students from Punjab, Pakistan. The authors analyze 395 responses from students in their final years using SmartPLS (v 4.0). As projected, our findings reveal that green mindfulness elevates green entrepreneurial intention through the mediator effect of green intrinsic motivation, which translates into green entrepreneurial behavior. Furthermore, spiritual intelligence significantly moderates the relationship between green mindfulness and green entrepreneurial intention, mediated by green intrinsic motivation, such that at high levels of spiritual intelligence the association is more pronounced and vice versa. The study presents several noteworthy theoretical and practical implications. From a theoretical perspective, the study contributes to the extant literature by investigating the link between green mindfulness and green entrepreneurial behavior through the serial mediator effects of green entrepreneurial intention and green intrinsic motivation and the moderator effect of spiritual intelligence. From a practical perspective the study presents a theoretical framework of university students’ green entrepreneurial intentions, culminating in green entrepreneurial behavior. By investigating these linkages our research draws practitioners’ attention to the crucial roles of green mindfulness and spiritual intelligence in fostering green entrepreneurial behavior. This study analyses the importance of the entrepreneurial intention of university students to promote social change by green entrepreneurship in regard to the three most vibrant components of AMO (Ability, Motivation, and Opportunity) theory, developed by the partial least square structural equation model (PLS-SEM). The entrepreneurial intention among students is identified via a deductive approach and this approach is developed using a PLS-SEM. The literature exploited and the methodology used comprise a full exploratory analysis technique to collect empirical data to find the predictor variables that influence the promotion of social changes connected to the mediating variable of green entrepreneurship. The survey data were collected from a total of 302 respondents through survey questionnaires from the students. The data were examined statistically to demonstrate the hypotheses predicted from the literature review. The outcomes of the hypothesis association showed that AMO theory influences the predictor variables of skills, incentives, and entrepreneurship education, and that these skills are statistically significant and accepted towards green entrepreneurship. However, the importance of a green entrepreneurship strategy is influenced by the entrepreneurial intention that encourages the promotion of social change. Therefore, the present study helps researchers to find the structural relationship between different wings connecting AMO theory with the entrepreneurial intention that incurs and develops sustainable business performance to create jobs, instead of searching for jobs. Secondly, this study also indicates a mixed approach where participants can openly discuss their opinion and understanding. Ultimately, this study encourages the use of the covariance-based structural equation model (CB-SEM) by confirming its theory, and testing the confirmatory factor analysis in particular. Full article

During the COVID-19 pandemic, digital technology has been used in all aspects of the agricultural field. How to seize the opportunity to achieve the production-marketing connection is increasingly becoming a top concern for green agri-food enterprises. Based on the theory of a task–technology fit, this study analyzes the fitness between livestreaming e-commerce and green agri-food. More specifically, the task characteristics cover the seasonality, locality, and eco-friendliness of green agri-food, and the technology characteristics cover the responsiveness, interactivity, and entertainment of livestreaming e-commerce. Using data of a sample of 574 green agri-food entrepreneurial firms collected through a web-based questionnaire, we preform structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis and find that the locality and eco-friendliness of green agri-food, the responsiveness, interactivity, and entertainment of livestreaming e-commerce have a positive effect on the fit of green agri-food livestreaming e-commerce. Moreover, the fit of green agri-food livestreaming has a positive effect on firm performance and the intention to adopt livestreaming e-commerce. This study also demonstrates that perceived corporate social responsibility has a moderating effect on the relationship between the fit of livestreaming of green agri-food and the intention to adopt livestreaming e-commerce. This research was aimed to investigate the connection between the social networking sites and green entrepreneurship intentions through a mediated-moderated model. The study was based on the Shepero’s model of entrepreneurship intentions and Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior. The study design reflects that social networking sites and green entrepreneurship intentions are mediated by risk propensity and self-efficacy, while self-efficacy and green entrepreneurship intentions’ relationship is further moderated by subjective norms. A well-structured and self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data from 500 respondents. The data were analyzed, and hypotheses were tested using PLS-SEM. The study findings confirmed that there exists a positive and significant link between social networking sites and green entrepreneurship intentions through the indirect effect of risk propensity and self-efficacy. However, the findings regarding moderating effect indicated that subjective norms have no significant impact between the self-efficacy and green entrepreneurship intentions. The study findings have significant academic and practical implications for government representatives, policymakers, and entrepreneurial educational institutes that can use these findings. This study investigated the impact of the use of social networking sites on university graduate students’ green sustainable entrepreneurial intentions by developing a mediating effect. This study provided a research framework using Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior and Shapero’s model to illustrate the relationship between self-efficacy and risk propensity towards green and sustainable entrepreneurial intentions. This research model posited a relationship between the use of social networking sites and green and sustainable entrepreneurship intentions with a mediating role of risk propensity and self-efficacy. The structural questionnaire was adopted, validated, and disseminated to the 300 respondents of university students. This study’s findings confirmed that there was a significant positive effect of the use of social networking sites on green and sustainable entrepreneurship intentions with the indirect impact of risk propensity and self-efficacy. These substantial outcomes have essential practices and academic implications for representatives, policy makers, and entrepreneurial institutes, such as how to direct the use of such relative niche technologies for communication and the role of the internet to promote green and sustainable entrepreneurial practices among young people.
