This paper simplifies indirect resonant switched-capacitor (ReSC) converters using the state-space average model method. The operation principles of the 4:1 and 5:1 ReSC converters derived from the Dickson (4:1) circuit are analyzed, and the corresponding state-space average matrices are derived based on their equivalent circuits. The resonant inductor of the specific resonant branch is eliminated by analyzing the composition of the state-variable matrix, thereby obtaining the simplified topologies of 4:1 and 5:1 indirect ReSC converters. The simplified topologies are simulated and experimentally verified. The results prove the correctness of the state-space average modeling method and the effectiveness of the simplified topologies. Low-emissivity (Low-E) glass, crucial for thermal insulation, significantly attenuates wireless signals, hindering 5G communication. Metasurface technology offers a solution, but the existing designs often neglect the etching ratio constraint and lack physical interpretability. In this work, we propose a physically constrained search method that incorporates prior knowledge of the capacitive equivalent circuit to guide the design of metasurfaces on Low-E glass. First, the equivalent circuit type of the metasurface is determined as a capacitive structure through transmission line model analysis. Then, a random walk-based search is conducted within the solution space of topological patterns corresponding to capacitive structures, ensuring etching ratio constraints and maintaining structural continuity. Using this method, we design a metasurface pattern optimized for 5G communication, which demonstrates over 30 dB improvement in signal transmission compared with full-coating Low-E glass. A fabricated 300 mm × 300 mm prototype, etched with a ratio of 19.5%, demonstrates a minimum transmission loss of 2.509 dB across the 24–30 GHz band with a 3 dB bandwidth of 4.28 GHz, fully covering the 5G n258 band (24.25–27.5 GHz). Additionally, the prototype maintains a transmission coefficient reduction of no more than 3 dB under oblique incidence angles from 0° to 50°, enabling robust 5G connectivity. Full article

Among various failure causes, lightning overvoltage represents the most significant threat to overhead distribution lines, which serve as critical components in power systems. This study uses the hybrid partial element equivalent circuit (PEEC) multi-conductor transmission line (MTL) method to perform overvoltage simulations and investigate lightning risk distribution along distribution lines developed from a real 10 kV distribution networks in Guizhou, China. The results of the rocket-triggered lightning observation verify the accuracy of the hybrid method for direct lightning simulation. Combining the Monte Carlo method with the electro-geometric model (EGM), the impact of differential protection configurations on annual lightning flashover rates is analyzed. The results demonstrate that lightning strikes on phase wires generate high-magnitude overvoltages but with limited spatial influence, resulting in fewer pole flashovers. Conversely, strikes on poles produce lower overvoltage peaks but affect wider areas, leading to significantly more flashovers. Using annual flashover rates as the risk evaluation metric, the line topologies into high-risk, medium-risk, and other low-risk areas are classified. Targeting an annual flashover rate below 0.4 as the design objective, the configuration schemes of the arresters are progressively optimized. This risk-based approach provides an effective reference framework for differential protection design of distribution line safeguards. Full article

In order to solve the dynamic adaptation problem of the working frequency band of the FSS in the complex electromagnetic environment and further expand the frequency tuning range, a reconfigurable AFSS unit model based on PIN and varactor diodes are designed, which can achieve the insertion loss below−1 dB in the wide frequency range of 10.2–15.2 GHz, meet the working-band switching, and allow for flexibly adjusting the working frequency point. In order to verify the accuracy of the design method, a square-ring aperture and notched patch-coupling structure that can exhibit broadband transmission response in the X-Ku band is first proposed based on the equivalent circuit model topology. A numerical simulation and a processing test of the structure are carried out. The measured data are in good agreement with the simulation results. After optimizing the unit structure, different capacitance values and resistance values are added to the diodes in the numerical simulation to control the equivalent PIN diode switch and the capacitance change in the varactor diodes. According to the equivalent circuit model and the electric-field intensity distribution, the AFSS regulation mechanism of the loaded diodes is explored. In this paper, through numerical simulation optimizations and experimental verification, the design method and performance optimization strategy of frequency-tunable FSS in the working range of 2–18 GHz are systematically studied, which provides theoretical support for the design of electromagnetic functional devices in the new generation of communication, radar, and electronic warfare systems. Ultrasonic guided wave interdigital transducers realized with piezoelectric materials are of interest for structural health monitoring systems because of their capability of performing Lamb wave mode selection with respect to single-element transducers. Besides this advantage, the coverage of large areas with a minimum number of elements is an important challenge and the problem of efficient excitation with integrated electronics must be solved. This work proposes an electrical matching network topology made of L and C passive components that can be designed for the trade-off between electrical to mechanical conversion efficiency and bandwidth. The network circuit is analyzed considering the equivalent transducer impedance and the output impedance of the driving electronics. The design rules derived by the transfer function analysis are described and a case study for a piezopolymer IDT is presented. Finally, with the implementation of the integrated matching network with the connector of the IDT, the effect of cable capacitance is minimized. In conclusion this article is a contribution to the study of using IDT efficiently and in a versatile mode for different electronic front-ends that usually operate at low power supply voltage. Given the decline in fossil energy reserves and the need for less pollution, achieving carbon zero is challenging in major industrial sectors. However, the emergence of large-scale hydrogen production systems powered by renewable energy sources offers an achievable option for carbon neutrality in specific applications. When combined with energy storage systems, static power converters are crucial in these production systems. This paper offers a comprehensive review of various power converter topologies, focusing on AC– and DC–bus architectures that interface battery storage units, electrolyzers, and fuel cells. The evaluation of DC/AC, AC/DC, and DC/DC converter topologies, considering cost, energy efficiency, control complexity, power level suitability, and power quality, represents a significant advancement in the field. Furthermore, the subsequent exploration of battery aging behavioral modeling, characterization methods, and real-time parameter estimation of the battery’s equivalent electrical circuit model enhances our understanding of these systems. Large-scale hydrogen production systems most often use an AC–bus architecture. However, DC–bus configuration offers advantages over AC–bus architecture, including high efficiency, simpler energy management, and lower system costs. In addition, MVDC or HVDC DC/DC converters, including isolated and non-isolated designs based on multiple cascaded DABs and MMC-type topologies, have also been studied to adapt the DC–bus to loads. Finally, this work summarizes several battery energy storage projects in the European Union, specifically supporting the large-scale integration of renewable energy sources. It also provides recommendations, discussion results, and future research perspectives from this study. Full article

A dual-polarization energy selective surface (ESS) with low insertion loss (IL) and high shielding effectiveness (SE) based on a dual-resonant equivalent circuit topology was proposed for high-intensity radiation field (HIRF) protection in this paper. The design principle was elucidated through an equivalent circuit model and translated into a physical ESS implementation. It consists of two resonant rings, vertically arranged and loaded with diodes, along with two lumped capacitors. Simulation and measurement results demonstrate that the IL is less than 3 dB when in the OFF state in a working frequency band, and the SE exceeds 20 dB when in the ON state. Moreover, the ESS’s dual-polarization, low cost, and easy-to-design characteristics hold great promise for broad applications in protecting communication and radar systems in complex electromagnetic environments. In high-precision Hemispherical Resonator Gyroscope (HRG) control systems, readout circuit noise critically determines resonator displacement detection precision. Addressing noise issues, this paper compares the noise characteristics and contribution mechanisms of the Transimpedance Amplifier (TIA) and Charge-Sensitive Amplifier (CSA). By establishing a noise model and analyzing circuit bandwidth, the dominant role of feedback resistor thermal noise in the TIA is revealed. These analyses further demonstrate the significant suppression of high-frequency noise by the CSA capacitive feedback network. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the measured noise of the TIA and CSA is consistent with the theoretical model. The TIA output noise is 25.8 μVrms, with feedback resistor thermal noise accounting for 99.8%, while CSA output noise is reduced to 13.2 μVrms, a reduction of 48.8%. Near resonant frequency, the equivalent displacement noise of the CSA is 1.69×1014m/Hz, a reduction of 86.7% compared to the TIA’s 1.27×1013m/Hz, indicating the CSA is more suitable for high-precision applications. This research provides theoretical guidance and technical references for the topological selection and parameter design of HRG readout circuits. Full article

This study investigates the low-signal behavior of electric motors in automotive applications, emphasizing impedance measurement, evaluation, and the definition of a simplified dummy load. A comprehensive experimental analysis was conducted on two induction motors with different power ratings (300 W and 45 kW), exploring the influence of winding topology, rotor position, and excitation amplitude on the impedance response. A simplified equivalent circuit model (ECM), derived solely from terminal impedance measurements, was developed and validated to construct a practical dummy load. This model facilitates realistic simulations without requiring detailed internal motor specifications. Experimental results confirm that the dummy load accurately replicates the measured impedance characteristics in the low-to-mid frequency range, demonstrating its effectiveness for electromagnetic interference (EMI) prediction and system-level simulations in automotive electric drive system. This paper proposes an improved analytical model for a line-start explosion-proof magnet synchronous motor that considers the effect of magnetic bridge saturation. Under the condition of maintaining the air-gap magnetic field unchanged, and taking into account the topological structures of embedded magnets, squirrel cages, and rotor slot openings, a subdomain model partitioning method is systematically investigated. Considering the saturation effect of the magnetic bridge of the rotor, the equivalent magnetic circuit method was utilized to calculate the permeance of the saturated region. It not only facilitates the establishment of subdomain equations and corresponding subdomain boundary conditions, but also ensures the maximum accuracy of the equivalence by maintaining the topology of the rotor. The motor was partitioned into subdomains, and in conjunction with the boundary conditions, the Poisson equation and Laplace equation are solved to obtain the electromagnetic performance of the motor. The accuracy of the analytical model is verified through finite element analysis. The accuracy of the analytical model is verified through finite element analysis (FEA). Compared to the FEA, the improved model maintains high precision while reducing computational time and exhibiting better generality, making it suitable for the initial design and optimization of industrial motors. In this paper, the concept of symmetry is utilized to optimize the structural parameters and output characteristics of the generator design—that is, the construction and solution of the equivalent magnetic circuit method for the hybrid excitation generator are symmetrical. To address the issues of high excitation loss and low power density in purely electrically excited generators, as well as the difficulty in adjusting the magnetic field in purely permanent magnet generators, a new topology for a built-in permanent magnet and salient-pole electromagnetic hybrid excitation generator is proposed. Firstly, an equivalent magnetic circuit model of the generator is established. Secondly, expressions are derived to describe the relationships between the dimensions of the salient-pole rotor and the permanent magnets and the generator’s no-load induced electromotive force, cogging torque, and air gap flux density. These expressions are then used to analyze the structural parameters that influence the generator’s performance. Thirdly, optimization targets are selected through sensitivity analysis, with the no-load induced electromotive force, cogging torque, and air gap flux density serving as the optimization objectives. A multi-objective genetic algorithm is employed to optimize these parameters and determine the optimal structural matching parameters for the generator. As a result, the optimized no-load induced electromotive force increased from 18.96 V to 20.14 V, representing a 6.22% improvement; the cogging torque decreased from 177.08 mN·m to 90.52 mN·m, a 48.88% reduction; the air gap flux density increased from 0.789 T to 0.829 T, a 5.07% improvement; and the air gap flux density waveform distortion rate decreased from 6.22% to 2.38%, a 39.3% reduction. Finally, a prototype is fabricated and experimentally tested, validating the accuracy of the simulation analysis, the feasibility of the optimization method, and the rationality of the generator design. Therefore, the proposed topology and optimization method can effectively enhance the output performance of the generator, providing a valuable theoretical reference for the design of hybrid excitation generators for vehicles. Torque modeling is an important research aspect of multi-degree of freedom (multi-DOF) spherical motors, and it is the key to realizing the accurate control of multi-DOF spherical motors. In this paper, a torque modeling method of the reluctance spherical motor (RSPM) based on the magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) method is proposed. Firstly, the structure of the RSPM is introduced, and the MEC topology of the RSPM is obtained. The calculation formulas of the reluctances in this topology are given. Then the magnetic flux of the RSPM is solved by the mesh analysis method, and the torque is calculated based on the magnetic field energy storage. Finally, the calculated torque is verified by the finite element method (FEM). The verification results show that the torque modeling of the RSPM based on the MEC method is correct, which consumes less memory and time than the three-dimensional finite element method. Offshore wind power has a broad development prospect, but with the development of offshore wind farms to the deep sea, the traditional high-voltage AC transmission has been difficult to adapt to the offshore wind power transmission distance and transmission capacity needs. A flexible DC transmission system applying modular multilevel converter is a common scheme for offshore wind power, which has been put into use in actual projects, but it is still facing the problems of high cost of offshore converter station platforms and high loss of collector systems. In order to improve the economy and reliability of the medium- and long-distance offshore wind power delivery systems, this paper proposes a diode rectifier-based medium-frequency AC pooling soft-direct low-cost delivery system for medium- and long-distance offshore wind power. Firstly, the mid-frequency equivalent model of the diode converter is established, and the influence of topology and frequency enhancement on the parameters of the main circuit equipment is analysed; then, the distribution parameters and transmission capacity of the mid-frequency cable are calculated based on the finite element modelling of the marine cable, and the transmission losses of the mid-frequency AC pooling system are then calculated, including the collector losses, converter valve losses, and transformer losses, etc. Finally, an economic analysis is carried out based on a specific example, comparing with the Jiangsu Rudong offshore wind power transmission project, in order to verify the economy of the medium-frequency AC flexible and direct transmission system of the medium- and long-distance offshore wind power using diode rectifier technology. This paper proposes a two-dimensional (2D) generalized equivalent magnetic network (GEMN) model suitable for surface-mounted permanent magnet electric machines (SPEMs). The model divides the SPEM into eight types of regions: stator yoke, stator tooth body, stator tooth tips, stator slot body, stator slot openings, air gap, rotor permanent magnets, and rotor yoke. Each region is subdivided radially and tangentially into multiple 2D magnetic network units containing radial and tangential magnetic circuit parameters, forming a regular magnetic network covering all regions of the SPEM. The topology of this magnetic network remains unchanged during rotor rotation and can accommodate various surface-mounted permanent magnet structures including Halbach arrays, which enhances the generality of the model significantly. The proposed model can be used to calculate the 2D magnetic flux density distribution, winding electromotive force, electromagnetic torque, stator iron loss, and permanent magnet demagnetization in the influence of magnetic saturation, stator slotting, and current harmonic. Comparative analysis with the accurate subdomain method (ASDM) and finite element method (FEM) demonstrates that the GEMN model achieves a good balance between computational speed and accuracy, making it particularly suitable for efficient electromagnetic performance evaluation of SPEMs. Full article
