Dynamic wireless charging systems have emerged as a promising solution to extend the driving range of electric vehicles by enabling energy transfer while the vehicle is in motion. However, the segment-based charging lane structure introduces challenges such as pulsation of the output power and the need for precise switching control of the transmitting segments. This paper proposes a position-sensorless control method for managing transmitting lines in a dynamic wireless charging system. The proposed approach uses a segmented charging lane structure combined with two receiving coils and LCC compensation circuits on both the transmitting and receiving sides. Based on theoretical analysis, the study determines the optimal switching positions and signals to reduce the current fluctuation. To validate the proposed method, a dynamic wireless charging system prototype with a power rating of 3kW was designed, constructed, and tested in a laboratory environment. The results demonstrate that the proposed position-sensorless control method effectively mitigates power fluctuations and enhances the stability and efficiency of the wireless charging process. This article presents a comparative study of the storage of energy produced by photovoltaic panels by means of two types of batteries: Lead–Acid and Lithium-Ion batteries. The work involved the construction of a model in MATLAB-Simulink for controlling the loading/unloading of storage batteries with energy produced by photovoltaic panels through a buck-type DC-DC convertor, controlled by means of the MPPT algorithm implemented through the method of incremental conductance based on a MATLAB function. The program for the MATLAB function was developed by the author in the C++ programming environment. The MPPT algorithm provides maximum energy transfer from the photovoltaic panels to the battery. The electric power taken over at a certain moment by Lithium-Ion batteries in photovoltaic panels is higher than the electric power taken over by Lead–Acid batteries. Two types of batteries were successively used in this model: Lead–Acid and Lithium-Ion batteries. Based on the results being obtained and presented in this work it may be affirmed that the storage battery Lithium-Ion is more performant than the Lead-Acid storage battery. At the Laboratory of Electrical Machinery and Drives of the Engineering Faculty of Bacau, an experimental stand was built for a storing system for electric energy produced by photovoltaic panels. For controlling DC-DC buck-type convertors, a program was developed in the programming environment Arduino IDE for implementing the MPPT algorithm for incremental conductance. The simulation part of this program is similar to that of the program developed in C++. Through conducting experiments, it was observed that, during battery charging, along with an increase in the charging voltage, an increase in the filling factor of the PWM signal controlling the buck DC-DC convertor also occurred. The findings of this study may be applicable to the storage of battery-generated electrical energy used for supplying electrical motors in electric cars. Full article

Electric buses (EBs) are increasingly adopted for their environmental and operational benefits, yet their real-world efficiency is influenced by climate, route characteristics, and auxiliary energy demands. While most existing research identifies winter as the most energy-intensive season due to cabin heating and reduced battery performance, this study presents a contrasting perspective based on a three-year longitudinal analysis of the LYMMO fleet in Orlando, Florida—a subtropical U.S. region. The findings reveal that summer is the most energy-intensive season, primarily due to sustained HVAC usage driven by high ambient temperatures—a seasonal pattern rarely reported in the current literature and a key regional contribution. Additionally, idling time exceeds driving time across all seasons, with HVAC usage during idling emerging as the dominant contributor to total energy consumption. To mitigate these inefficiencies, a proxy-based HVAC energy estimation method and an optimization model were developed, incorporating ambient temperature and peak passenger load. This approach achieved up to 24% energy savings without compromising thermal comfort. Results validated through non-parametric statistical testing support operational strategies such as idling reduction, HVAC control, and seasonally adaptive scheduling, offering practical pathways to improve EB efficiency in warm-weather transit systems. This paper presents a data-driven energy management scheme for fuel cell and battery electric vehicles, formulated as a constrained optimal control problem. The proposed method employs a co-state network trained using real-time measurements to estimate the control law without requiring prior knowledge of the system model or a complete dataset across the full operating domain. In contrast to conventional reinforcement learning approaches, this method avoids the issue of high dimensionality and does not depend on extensive offline training. Robustness is demonstrated by treating uncertain and time-varying elements, including power consumption from air conditioning systems, variations in road slope, and passenger-related demands, as unknown disturbances. The desired state of charge is defined as a reference trajectory, and the control input is computed while ensuring compliance with all operational constraints. Validation results based on a combined driving profile confirm the effectiveness of the proposed controller in maintaining the battery charge, reducing fluctuations in fuel cell power output, and ensuring reliable performance under practical conditions. Comparative evaluations are conducted against two benchmark controllers: one designed to maintain a constant state of charge and another based on a soft actor–critic learning algorithm. Full article

To improve the stability and safety of electric vehicles during medium-to-high-speed cornering, this paper investigates torque differential control for dual rear-wheel hub motor drive systems, extending beyond traditional speed control based on the Ackermann steering model. A nonlinear three-degree-of-freedom vehicle dynamics model incorporating the Dugoff tire model was established. By introducing the maximum correntropy criterion, an unscented Kalman filter was developed to estimate longitudinal velocity, sideslip angle at the center of mass, and yaw rate. Building upon the speed differential control achieved through Ackermann steering model-based rear-wheel speed calculation, improvements were made to the conventional exponential reaching law, while a novel switching function was proposed to formulate a new sliding mode controller for computing an additional yaw moment to realize torque differential control. Finally, simulations conducted on the Carsim/Simulink platform demonstrated that the maximum correntropy criterion unscented Kalman filter effectively improves estimation accuracy, achieving at least a 22.00% reduction in RMSE metrics compared to conventional unscented Kalman filter. With torque control exhibiting higher vehicle stability than speed control, the RMSE values of yaw rate and sideslip angle at the center of mass are reduced by at least 20.00% and 4.55%, respectively, enabling stable operation during medium-to-high-speed cornering conditions. The design and optimization of drive distribution strategies are critical for enhancing the performance of Formula Student electric racing cars, which face demanding operational conditions such as rapid acceleration, tight cornering, and variable track surfaces. Given the increasing complexity of racing environments and the need for adaptive control solutions, a multi-mode adaptive drive distribution strategy for four-wheel-drive Formula Student electric racing cars is proposed in this study to meet specialized operational demands. Based on the dynamic characteristics of standardized test scenarios (e.g., straight-line acceleration and figure-eight loop), two control modes are designed: slip-ratio-based anti-slip control for longitudinal dynamics and direct yaw moment control for lateral stability. A CarSim–Simulink co-simulation platform is established, with test scenarios conforming to competition standards, including variable road adhesion coefficients (μ is 0.3–0.9) and composite curves. Simulation results indicate that, compared to conventional PID control, the proposed strategy reduces the peak slip ratio to the optimal range of 18% during acceleration and enhances lateral stability in the figure-eight loop, maintaining the sideslip angle around −0.3°. These findings demonstrate the potential for significant improvements in both performance and safety, offering a scalable framework for future developments in racing vehicle control systems. This manuscript investigates the feasibility of Four-In-Wheel Electronic Differential Systems (4 IW-EDSs) within contemporary electric vehicles (EVs), emphasizing their benefits for stability regulation predicated on steering angles. Through an extensive literature review, we conduct a comparative analysis of various in-wheel-motor models in terms of power output, efficiency, and torque characteristics. Furthermore, we explore the distinctions between IW-EDSs and steer-by-wire systems, as well as conventional systems, while evaluating recent research findings to determine their implications for the evolution of electric mobility. Moreover, this paper addresses the necessity for fault-tolerant methodologies to boost reliability in practical applications. The findings yield valuable insights into the challenges and impacts associated with the implementation of differential steering control in four-wheel independent-drive electric vehicles. This study aims to explore the interaction between these systems, optimize torque distribution, and discover the most ideal control strategy that will improve maneuverability, stability, and energy efficiency, thereby opening up new frontiers in the development of next-generation electric vehicles with unparalleled performance and safety features. This research introduces an innovative passive vibration control methodology employing acoustic black hole (ABH) structures to mitigate vibration transmission in electric automotive steering machines—a prevalent issue adversely affecting driving comfort and vehicle safety. Leveraging the inherent bending wave manipulation properties of ABH configurations, we conceive an integrated vibration suppression framework synergizing advanced computational modeling with intelligent optimization algorithms. A high-fidelity finite element (FEM) model integrating ABH-attached steering machine system was developed and subjected to experimental validation via rigorous modal testing. To address computational challenges in design optimization, a hybrid modeling strategy integrating parametric design (using Latin Hypercube Sampling, LHS) with Kriging surrogate modeling is proposed. Systematic parameterization of ABH geometry and damping layer dimensions generated 40 training datasets and 12 validation datasets. Surrogate model verification confirms the model’s precise mapping of vibration characteristics across the design space. Subsequent multi-objective genetic algorithm optimization targeting RMS velocity suppression achieved substantial vibration attenuation (29.2%) compared to baseline parameters. The developed methodology provides automotive researchers and engineers with an efficient suitable design tool for vibration-sensitive automotive component design. Full article

In the context of the mining industry, the belt conveyor is a critical piece of equipment. The motor constitutes the primary component of the belt conveyor apparatus, and its stable and accurate operation can significantly influence the performance of the belt conveyor apparatus. This paper introduces an integrated control approach combining vector control methodology with active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) for velocity regulation and model predictive control (MPC) for current tracking. The ADRC framework actively compensates for load disturbances and parameter variations during speed control, while MPC achieves precise current regulation with minimal tracking error. Validation involved comprehensive MATLAB/Simulink R2024a simulations modeling PMSM behavior under mining-specific operating conditions. The results demonstrate substantial improvements in dynamic response characteristics and disturbance rejection capabilities compared to conventional control strategies. The proposed methodology effectively addresses critical challenges in mining conveyor applications, enhancing operational reliability and system longevity. Full article

The electromechanical composite transmission technology for tracked vehicles demonstrates excellent performance in energy efficiency, mobility, and ride comfort. However, due to frequent operation under harsh conditions, the components of the electric drive system, such as drive motors, are prone to failures. This paper proposes three fault-tolerant control methods for three typical fault scenarios of the electromechanical composite transmission system (ECTS) to ensure the normal operation of tracked vehicles. Firstly, an ECTS and the electromechanical coupling dynamics model of the tracked vehicle are established. Moreover, a double-layer anti-windup PID control for motors and an instantaneous optimal control strategy for the engine are proposed in the fault-free case. Secondly, an anti-windup PID control law for motors and an engine control strategy considering the state of charge (SOC) and driving demands are developed in the case of single-side drive motor failure. Thirdly, a B4 clutch control strategy during starting and a steering brake control strategy are proposed in the case of electric drive system failure. Finally, in the straight-driving condition of the tracked vehicle, the throttle opening is set as 0.6, and the motor failure is triggered at 15 s during the acceleration process. Numerical simulations verify the fault-tolerant control strategies’ feasibility, using the tracked vehicle’s maximum speed and acceleration at 30 s as indicators for dynamic performance evaluation. The simulation results show that under single-motor fault, its straight-line driving power drops by 33.37%; with electric drive failure, the drop reaches 43.86%. The vehicle can still maintain normal straight-line driving and steering under fault conditions. Full article

This article addresses the problem of increasing the energy efficiency of electromechanical systems driven by asynchronous electric drives. In this context, one of the promising areas is the application of a predictive control strategy that allows for reducing energy losses in dynamic modes of electric drives. This paper proposes a computerised method for the multiparameter optimisation of predictive control algorithms for asynchronous electric drives. A computer model was designed in MATLAB and Simulink R2024a based on the gradient-based model predictive control strategy. A series of simulation experiments were carried out by varying the sampling step, number of iterations, prediction horizon, loss function parameters, and maximum linear search step to identify their impact on the control quality indicators. A taxonomic approach was used for multi-criteria optimisation. The study results show that the optimal setting of the algorithmic parameters improves the accuracy of task processing, reduces energy consumption, and reduces computation time. The results obtained can be used to design and operate energy-efficient control systems for asynchronous electric drives in industrial and transport applications. Prospects for further research will focus on hybrid intelligent architectures to enhance adaptability and integration into automated systems. Full article

There has been a great need for replacing combustion-powered vehicles with electric vehicles (EV), and fully electric cars are meant to replace combustion engine cars. This has led to considerable research into improving the performance of EVs, especially via electric motor voltage control. A wide range of optimization algorithms have been used as traditional approaches, but the dynamic parameters of electric motors, impacted by temperature and different driving cycles, continue to be a problem. This study introduces an improved version of the Parrot Optimizer (IPO) aimed at enhancing voltage regulation in EVs. The algorithm can intelligently adjust certain motor parameters for adaptive management to maintain performance based on different situations. To ensure a stable and sustainable power supply for the powertrain of the EV, a photovoltaic (PV) system is used with energy storage batteries. Such an arrangement seeks to deliver permanent electric energy, a solution to traditional grid electricity reliance. This demonstrates the effectiveness of IPO, with the resultant motor performance remaining optimal despite parameter changes. It is also illustrated that energy production, by integrating PV systems, prevents excessive voltage line drops and thus voltage imbalances. The proposed intelligent controller is verified based on multiple simulations, demonstrating and ensuring significant improvements in EV efficiency and reliability. Full article

Thermal control in rolling mills motors is gaining importance as more and more hard-to-deform steel grades are rolled. The capabilities of diagnostics monitoring also expand as digital IIoT-based technologies are adopted. Electrical drives in modern rolling mills are based on synchronous motors with frequency regulation. Such motors are expensive, while their reliability impacts the metallurgical plant output. Hence, developing the on-line temperature monitoring systems for such motors is extremely urgent. This paper presents a solution applying to synchronous motors of the upper and lower rolls in the horizontal roll stand of plate mill 5000. The installed capacity of each motor is 12 MW. According to the digitalization tendency, on-line monitoring systems should be based on digital shadows (coordinate observers) that are similar to digital twins, widely introduced at metallurgical plants. Modern reliability requirements set the continuous temperature monitoring for stator and rotor windings and iron core. This article is the first to describe a method for calculating thermal loads based on the data sets created during rolling. The authors have developed a thermal state observer based on four-mass model of motor heating built using the Simscape Thermal Models library domains that is part of the MATLAB Simulink. Virtual adjustment of the observer and of the thermal model was performed using hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation. The authors have validated the results by comparing the observer’s values with the actual values measured at control points. The discrete masses heating was studied during the rolling cycle. The stator and rotor winding temperature was analysed at different periods. The authors have concluded that the motors of the upper and lower rolls are in a satisfactory condition. The results of the study conducted generally develop the idea of using object-oriented digital shadows for the industrial electrical equipment. The authors have introduced technologies that improve the reliability of the rolling mills electrical drives which accounts for the innovative development in metallurgy. The authors have also provided recommendations on expanded industrial applications of the research results. Full article

This paper proposes a hybrid methodology for one-step-ahead torsional torque estimation in an electric drive with an elastic connection. The approach integrates Nonlinear Autoregressive Neural Networks with Exogenous Inputs (NARX NNs) and model-based feedback. The NARX model uses real-time and historical motor speed and torque signals as inputs while leveraging physics-derived torsional torque as a feedback input to refine estimation accuracy and robustness. While model-based methods provide insight into system dynamics, they lack predictive capability—an essential feature for proactive control. Conversely, standalone NARX NNs often suffer from error accumulation and overfitting. The proposed hybrid architecture synergises the adaptive learning of NARX NNs with the fidelity of physics-based feedback, enabling proactive vibration damping. The method was implemented and evaluated on a two-mass drive system using an IP controller and additional torsional torque feedback. Results demonstrate high accuracy and reliability in one-step-ahead torsional torque estimation, enabling effective proactive vibration damping. MATLAB 2024a/Simulink and dSPACE 1103 were used for simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Full article

Power Flow Simulation and Thermal Performance Analysis of Electric Vehicles Under Standard Driving Cycles

This paper presents a simulation framework for evaluating power flow, energy efficiency, thermal behavior, and energy consumption in electric vehicles (EVs) under standardized driving conditions. A detailed Simulink model is developed, integrating a lithium-ion battery, inverter, permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), gearbox, and a field-oriented control strategy with PI-based speed and current regulation. The framework is applied to four standard driving cycles—UDDS, HWFET, WLTP, and NEDC—to assess system performance under varied load conditions. The UDDS cycle imposes the highest thermal loads, with temperature rises of 76.5 °C (motor) and 52.0 °C (inverter). The HWFET cycle yields the highest energy efficiency, with PMSM efficiency reaching 92% and minimal SOC depletion (15%) due to its steady-speed profile. The WLTP cycle shows wide power fluctuations (−30–19.3 kW), and a motor temperature rise of 73.6 °C. The NEDC results indicate a thermal increase of 75.1 °C. Model results show good agreement with published benchmarks, with deviations generally below 5%, validating the framework’s accuracy. These findings underscore the importance of cycle-sensitive analysis in optimizing energy use and thermal management in EV powertrain design. Full article
