This study investigates the factors influencing school trip mode choice among senior high school students in the Chiang Rai urban area, Chiang Rai, Thailand, under normal and adverse weather conditions. Utilizing data from 472 students across six extra-large urban schools, a Multinomial Logit (MNL) regression model was applied to examine the effects of socio-demographic attributes, household vehicle ownership, travel distance, and spatial variables on mode selection. The results revealed notable modal shifts during adverse weather, with motorcycle usage decreasing and private vehicle reliance increasing, while school bus usage remained stable, highlighting its role as a resilient transport option. Car ownership emerged as a strong enabler of modal flexibility, whereas students with limited access to private transport demonstrated reduced adaptability. Additionally, increased waiting and travel times during adverse conditions underscored infrastructure and service vulnerabilities, particularly for mid-distance travelers. The findings suggest an urgent need for transport policies that promote inclusive and climate-resilient mobility systems, particularly in the context of Chiang Rai, including expanded school bus services, improved first-mile connectivity, and enhanced pedestrian infrastructure. This study contributes to the literature by addressing environmental variability in school travel behavior and offers actionable insights for sustainable transport planning in secondary cities and border regions. The detection of trace chemicals at low and ultra-low concentrations is critical for applications in environmental monitoring, medical diagnostics, food safety and other fields. Conventional detection techniques often lack the required sensitivity, specificity, or cost-effectiveness, making real-time, in situ analysis challenging. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a powerful analytical tool, offering improved sensitivity through the enhancement of Raman scattering by plasmonic nanostructures. While noble metals such as Ag and Au are currently the reference choices for SERS substrates, fabrication methods should balance enhancement efficiency, reproducibility and scalability. In this study, we propose a novel approach for SERS substrate fabrication using reactive Aerosol Jet Printing (r-AJP) as an innovative additive manufacturing technique. The r-AJP process enables in-flight Ag seed reduction and nucleation of Ag nanoparticles (NPs) by mixing silver nitrate and ascorbic acid aerosols before deposition, as suggested by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. The resulting coatings were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses, revealing the formation of nanoporous crystalline Ag agglomerates partially covered by residual matter. The as-prepared SERS substrates exhibited remarkable SERS activity, demonstrating a high enhancement factor (106) for rhodamine (R6G) detection. Our findings highlight the potential of r-AJP as a scalable and cost-effective fabrication strategy for next-generation SERS sensors, paving the way for the development of a new additive manufacturing tool for noble metal material deposition. Cyclic triaxial tests are widely used in laboratory studies to assess the liquefaction susceptibility of soils. Although standardized procedures exist for conducting these tests, there is no universally accepted criterion for defining liquefaction. The choice of a liquefaction criterion significantly influences the interpretation of test results and subsequent engineering analyses. This study evaluates the impact of different liquefaction criteria by analyzing 42 cyclic triaxial tests performed on soil mixtures containing plastic fines. Both stress-based and strain-based liquefaction criteria were applied to assess their influence on test outcomes. The analyses focused on two key parameters: the number of loading cycles required to initiate liquefaction and the normalized dissipated energy per unit volume needed for liquefaction to occur. Results indicate that for soils susceptible to liquefaction failures, these parameters remain relatively consistent across different failure criteria. However, for soils prone to cyclic mobility failures, the number of loading cycles and the dissipated energy required for liquefaction vary significantly depending on the selected failure criterion. These findings highlight the importance of carefully selecting a liquefaction criterion, as it directly affects the assessment of soil behavior under cyclic loading. A better understanding of these variations can improve the accuracy of liquefaction susceptibility evaluations and inform geotechnical design and hazard mitigation strategies. Full article

Background/Objectives: Acrylamide is a probably carcinogenic to humans that naturally forms during the thermal processing of foods. An individual’s lifestyle—especially dietary habits and physical activity—may influence the severity of acrylamide’s adverse health effects. This study aimed to examine the relationship between adolescents’ dietary and exercise behaviors and their dietary acrylamide exposure and associated health risks. Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 370 high school students in Türkiye. Data were collected using the Nutrition Exercise Behavior Scale (NEBS) and a retrospective 24-h dietary recall questionnaire. Acrylamide exposure was calculated based on food intake to estimate carcinogenic (CR) and non-corcinogenic (target hazard quotient: THQ) health risks and analyzed in relation to NEBS scores. Results: Findings indicated that while adolescents are beginning to adopt healthy eating and exercise habits, these behaviors are not yet consistent. Emotional eating and unhealthy food choices still occur. Higher acrylamide exposure and risk values were observed in boys and underweight individuals. This can be explained mainly by the fact that boys consume more of certain foods—especially bread, which contains relatively higher levels of acrylamide—than girls do, and that underweight individuals have lower body weights despite consuming similar amounts of food as other groups. Bread products emerged as the primary source of daily acrylamide intake. Positive correlations were found between NEBS total and subscale scores and acrylamide exposure and health risk values. Conclusions: The study demonstrates a significant association between adolescents’ health behaviors and acrylamide exposure. These results underscore potential public health concerns regarding acrylamide intake during adolescence and emphasize the need for targeted nutritional interventions to reduce risk and promote sustainable healthy behaviors. Progress in establishing environmental risk factors and, consequently, prophylactic measures for glial tumors, particularly for glioblastomas, is of utmost importance, considering the dismal prognosis and limited treatment options. This report surveyed updates on established and recently identified factors that can predispose a patient to glioma formation while highlighting possible mechanistic links and further research directions. In addition to established factors that increase the risk of glioma, i.e., brain irradiation and several genetic syndromes, another group consists of likely factors contributing to such risks, such as the use of tobacco and those yielding ambiguous results (e.g., UV exposure). Oxidative stress is a common denominator for several types of exposure, and a mechanistic background for other factors remains elusive. Nevertheless, the analysis of clinical and basic research strongly suggests that, apart from the effect of environmental stressors on DNA alterations and mutation burden, the impact of modifying the tumor microenvironment should be considered. Identifying the involvement of environmental hazards in gliomagenesis and glial tumor progression would lower overall risk by modifying clinical practice, patient management, and lifestyle choices. Further verifying the environmental hazards in glioma formation and progression would have far-reaching implications for neurologists, neurosurgeons, and patients. Full article

As the electromagnetic spectrum is a limited and valuable resource, auctions have emerged as an effective tool for promoting efficient allocation and generating revenue. This article proposes a theoretical review of the most commonly used auction formats for spectrum auctions, highlighting the primary strengths and weaknesses of each format. Additionally, comparisons are made between the revenue generated by different auction formats and the corresponding countries in North and South America during the 21st century. The conclusion drawn is that the Combinatorial Clock Auction format is the preferred choice, as it consistently leads to more efficient allocation, as measured by the revenue generated from each auction. Hormonal contraceptives (HCs) are widely used and generally well tolerated; however, their neuroendocrinological effects remain underappreciated in clinical decision-making. Beyond ovulation suppression, HCs influence brain function by modulating key neurotransmitters such as GABA, serotonin, and dopamine, as well as neurosteroids like allopregnanolone and β-endorphin. These interactions help explain why some users experience mood swings, anxiety, or changes in sexual desire, while others report improvements in well-being. In this narrative review, we explore how different estrogenic and progestin components affect central pathways involved in emotional regulation and cognition. Evidence suggests that estradiol or estetrol-based formulations combined with anti-androgenic progestins like drospirenone or nomegestrol acetate may offer a more favourable neuroendocrine profile, particularly in women with a history of mood disorders or hormonal sensitivity. Understanding these neuroendocrine mechanisms may support more personalized contraceptive choices, particularly in women with mood disorders and hormonal vulnerability. Full article

UV-C irradiation is an innovative postharvest technique for increasing the safety of fruits and vegetables. This study investigated the effect of UV-C rays (UV-C1 = 0.26 KJ/m2; UV-C2 = 0.40 KJ/m2; UV-C3 = 0.67 KJ/m2; and UV-C4 = 1.34 KJ/m2) on the preservation of the antioxidants, hardness, and color of fresh green asparagus during storage. UV-C1 and UV-C2 significantly maintained higher total phenolic content (10.6%), total flavonoid content (36%), rutin (14.3%), quercetin (27.03%), kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside (21.25%), and antioxidant activity (DPPH 7.5%). Over three weeks of storage, quercetin, ferulic acid, and kaempferol 3-O-rutinoside increased, while rutin and caffeic acid decreased. Storage caused a significant change in the color and hardness of the control sample, but UV-C4 counteracted hardening for up to three weeks, and UV-C3 was the best dose for stabilizing color during storage. This study indicates that the choice of UV-C dose can be modulated based on the characteristics that are intended to be preserved in green asparagus, maintaining a balance between nutraceutical and hedonic characteristics. To maintain the maximum level of nutraceutical compounds over time, UV-C2 can be adopted, while to preserve texture and color, UV-C3 and UV-C4 are a better choice. Full article

As the climate problem is getting more and more serious and the “low-carbon revolution” of globalization is emerging, the logistics industry, as a high-end service industry, must also take the road of low-carbon development. Improving logistics carbon emission efficiency (LCEE) is gradually becoming an inevitable choice to maintain sustainable social development. The study uses the Super-SBM (Super-Slack-Based Measure) model to evaluate the urban LCEE from 2013 to 2022, explores the contribution of efficiency changes and technological progress to LCEE through the decomposition of the GML (Global Malmquist–Luenberger) index, and reveals the influence of digital transformation and energy consumption structure on LCEE by using the Spatial Durbin Model, concluding as follows: (1) LCEE declines from east to west, with large regional differences. (2) LCEE has steadily increased over the past decade, with slower growth from east to west. It fell in 2020 due to COVID-19 but has since recovered. (3) LCEE shows a catching-up effect among the three major regions, with technological progress being a key driver of improvement. (4) LCEE has significant spatial dependence. Energy consumption structure has a short-term negative spillover effect, while digital transformation has a positive spillover effect. Full article

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are widely used in surveillance and combat for their efficiency and autonomy, whilst complex, dynamic environments challenge the modeling of inter-agent relations and information transmission. This research proposes a novel UAV tactical choice-making algorithm utilizing graph neural networks to tackle these challenges. The proposed algorithm employs a graph neural network to process the observed state information, the convolved output of which is then fed into a reconstructed critic network incorporating a Laplacian convolution kernel. This research first enhances the accuracy of obtaining unstable state information in hostile environments. The proposed algorithm uses this information to train a more precise critic network. In turn, this improved critic network guides the actor network to make decisions that better meet the needs of the battlefield. Coupled with a policy transfer mechanism, this architecture significantly enhances the decision-making efficiency and environmental adaptability within the multi-agent system. Results from the experiments show that the average effectiveness of the proposed algorithm across the six planned scenarios is 97.4%, surpassing the baseline by 23.4%. In addition, the integration of transfer learning makes the network convergence speed three times faster than that of the baseline algorithm. This algorithm effectively improves the information transmission efficiency between the environment and the UAV and provides strong support for UAV formation combat. Full article

Background/Objectives: Excessive sugar intake through sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) has raised global concerns due to its association with various health risks. This study evaluates the effectiveness of nudges—in the form of order placement, variety expansion, and a combination of both—in promoting non-SSB purchases at self-service kiosks, a key environment for SSB consumption. Methods: This study was conducted using a real-world kiosk at food and beverage outlets in South Korea from 28 May to 12 July, 2024. A total of 183 consumers aged 19 to 29 participated in this study. A single kiosk device was used with four screen layouts, each reflecting a different nudge strategy. Participants were unaware of these manipulations when making their purchases. After their purchases, participants completed a survey. All data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 29.0. Results: Females reported significantly higher positive attitudes, preferences, and perceived necessity regarding nudges compared to males. In particular, both the single (variety) and combination (order and variety) nudges received positive responses from females (p < 0.001). The combination nudge significantly increased non-SSB purchases compared to the control (p < 0.05) and single (order) nudge groups (p < 0.01), which suggests that combination nudge is effective in promoting healthier beverage choices. Females were also more likely to purchase non-SSBs than males (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The findings suggest that the combination nudge strategy effectively promotes healthier beverage choices in real kiosk settings. Notably, females demonstrate significantly higher positive attitudes, preferences, and perceived necessity regarding nudges compared to males, and are also more likely to purchase non-SSBs. These findings offer valuable insights for real-world applications aimed at encouraging healthier consumption behaviors. Full article

According to the National Institutes of Health, approximately 465 million individuals are affected by type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and could benefit from managing their condition with a high-quality diet based on proper, nutrient-rich food choices. A plant-based diet not only has health benefits but also helps mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but the Mediterranean diet has the most beneficial effect on overall health. In contrast, ultra-processed foods have a negative impact on T2DM outcomes. Reviewing the nutritional profile of different meals, snacks and desserts would be helpful in enhancing their quality, strengthening the role of dietitians and doctors and protecting against T2DM complications. This approach would also increase simplification and education for consumers. The PubMed-Medline, Web of Science, Scopus and Cochrane Library databases were searched for relevant articles published up to May, from 2000 (based on publication date). The results support the need to reinforce health claims and highlight public demand for food choices while also improving patient quality of life. Full article

Respectful maternity care involves privacy, dignity, and informed choice within the process of delivery as stipulated by the World Health Organization (WHO). Informed consent is a cornerstone of patient-centered care, representing not just a formal document, but an ongoing ethical and clinical process through which women are offered objective, understandable information to support autonomous, informed decision-making. This narrative review critically examines the literature on informed consent in maternity care, with particular attention to both obstetric-led and midwifery-led models of care. In addition to identifying institutional, cultural, and systemic obstacles to its successful implementation, the review examines the definition and application of informed consent in perinatal settings and evaluates its effects on women’s autonomy and satisfaction with care. Important conclusions emphasize that improving women’s experiences and minimizing needless interventions require active decision-making participation, a positive provider–patient relationship, and ongoing support from medical professionals. However, significant gaps persist between legal mandates and actual practice due to provider attitudes, systemic constraints, and sociocultural influences. Women’s experiences of consent can be more effectively understood through the use of instruments such as the Mothers’ Respect (MOR) Index and the Mothers’ Autonomy in Decision Making (MADM) Scale. To promote genuinely informed and considerate maternity care, this review emphasizes the necessity of legislative reform and improved provider education in order to close the gap between policy and practice. Atrial fibrillation remains the most frequent sustained arrhythmia, particularly in the elderly population, and is associated with increased risks of stroke, heart failure, and reduced quality of life. While catheter ablation is widely used for rhythm control, its efficacy is limited in persistent and long-standing atrial fibrillation. Over the past two decades, minimally invasive surgical strategies have emerged as effective alternatives, aiming to replicate the success of the Cox-Maze procedure while reducing surgical trauma. This overview critically summarizes the current minimally invasive techniques available for atrial fibrillation treatment, including mini-thoracotomy ablation, thoracoscopic ablation, and hybrid procedures such as the convergent approach. These methods offer the potential for durable sinus rhythm restoration by enabling direct visualization, transmural lesion creation, and left atrial appendage exclusion, with lower perioperative morbidity compared to traditional open surgery. The choice of energy source plays a key role in lesion efficacy and safety. Particular attention is given to the technical steps of each procedure, patient selection criteria, and the role of left atrial appendage closure in stroke prevention. Hybrid strategies, which combine epicardial surgical ablation with endocardial catheter-based procedures, have shown encouraging outcomes in patients with refractory or long-standing atrial fibrillation. Despite the steep learning curve, minimally invasive techniques provide significant benefits in terms of recovery time, reduced hospital stay, and fewer complications. As evidence continues to evolve, these approaches represent a key advancement in the surgical management of atrial fibrillation, deserving integration into contemporary treatment algorithms and multidisciplinary heart team planning. In this work, we provide a promising way to alleviate the Hubble tension within the framework of Myrzakulov f(R,T) gravity. The latter incorporates both curvature and torsion under a non-special connection. We consider the f(R,T)=R+αR2 class, which leads to modified Friedmann equations and an effective dark energy sector. Within this class, we make specific connection choices in order to obtain a Hubble function that coincides with that of ΛCDM at early times while yielding higher H0 values at late times. The reason behind this behavior is that the dark energy equation of state exhibits phantom behavior, which is known to be a sufficient mechanism for alleviating the H0 tension. A full observational comparison with various datasets, including the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), is required to test the viability of this scenario. Strictly speaking, the present work does not provide a complete solution to the Hubble tension but rather proposes a promising way to alleviate it. Full article
