Virtual influencers (VIs) on e-commerce platforms are becoming increasingly popular, enhancing the consumer experience. This study examines the consumer–brand relationship (CBR) with VIs through the perspective of social presence. Data from 1041 e-commerce platform users (e.g., Douyin, RED, Weibo) were collected and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings reveal that both the visual and mental human-likeness of VIs significantly strengthen CBR, with social presence acting as a mediator. Additionally, the interaction between visual and mental human-likeness positively impacts social presence, which in turn enhances CBR. Moreover, consumers’ need for uniqueness moderates the relationship between social presence and CBR, providing valuable insights for virtual influencer strategies in e-commerce. This research suggests the feasibility of leveraging VI design both visually and mentally to capture new trends in developing effective virtual campaigns with digitization and metaverse technologies. This study extends the stream of research VIs use for interactive marketing, highlighting the role of parasocial relationships in interactive marketing. These findings can provide managers with a better understanding of VI design from both visual and mental aspects. Full article

Floating solar technology has gained significant attention as part of the global expansion of renewable energy due to its potential for installation in underutilized water bodies. Several countries, including the Netherlands, have initiated efforts to extend this technology from inland freshwater applications to open offshore environments, particularly within offshore wind farm areas. This development is motivated by the synergistic benefits of increasing site energy density and leveraging the existing offshore grid infrastructure. The deployment of offshore floating photovoltaic (OFPV) systems involves assembling multiple modular units in a marine environment, introducing operational risks that may give rise to safety concerns. To mitigate these risks, weather windows must be considered prior to the task execution to ensure continuity between weather-sensitive activities, which can also lead to additional time delays and increased costs. Consequently, optimizing marine logistics becomes crucial to achieving the cost reductions necessary for making OFPV technology economically viable. This study employs a simulation-based approach to estimate the installation duration of a 5 MWp OFPV plant at a Dutch offshore wind farm site, started in different months and under three distinct risk management scenarios. Based on 20 years of hindcast wave data, the results reveal the impacts of campaign start months and risk management policies on installation duration. Across all the scenarios, the installation duration during the autumn and winter period is 160% longer than the one in the spring and summer period. The average installation durations, based on results from 12 campaign start months, are 70, 80, and 130 days for the three risk management policies analyzed. The result variation highlights the additional time required to mitigate operational risks arising from potential discontinuity between highly interdependent tasks (e.g., offshore platform assembly and mooring). Additionally, it is found that the weather-induced delays are mainly associated with the campaigns of pre-laying anchors and platform and mooring line installation compared with the other campaigns. In conclusion, this study presents a logistics modeling methodology for OFPV systems, demonstrated through a representative case study based on a state-of-the-art truss-type design. The primary contribution lies in providing a framework to quantify the performance of OFPV installation strategies at an early design stage. The findings of this case study further highlight that marine installation logistics are highly sensitive to local marine conditions and the chosen installation strategy, and should be integrated early in the OFPV design process to help reduce the levelized cost of electricity. Social media platforms like Instagram significantly shape destination images and influence tourist behavior. Understanding how different cities are represented and perceived on these platforms is crucial for effective tourism marketing. This study provides a comparative analysis of Instagram content and engagement patterns in Seoul and Tokyo, two major Asian metropolises, to derive actionable marketing insights. We collected and analyzed 59,944 public Instagram posts geotagged or location-tagged within Seoul (n = 29,985) and Tokyo (n = 29,959). We employed a mixed-methods approach involving content categorization using a fine-tuned convolutional neural network (CNN) model, engagement metric analysis (likes, comments), Valence Aware Dictionary and sEntiment Reasoner (VADER) sentiment analysis and thematic classification of comments, geospatial analysis (Kernel Density Estimation [KDE], Moran’s I), and predictive modeling (Gradient Boosting with SHapley Additive exPlanations [SHAP] value analysis). A validation analysis using balanced samples (n = 2000 each) was conducted to address Tokyo’s lower geotagged data proportion. While both cities showed ‘Person’ as the dominant content category, notable differences emerged. Tokyo exhibited higher like-based engagement across categories, particularly for ‘Animal’ and ‘Food’ content, while Seoul generated slightly more comments, often expressing stronger sentiment. Qualitative comment analysis revealed Seoul comments focused more on emotional reactions, whereas Tokyo comments were often shorter, appreciative remarks. Geospatial analysis identified distinct hotspots. The validation analysis confirmed these spatial patterns despite Tokyo’s data limitations. Predictive modeling highlighted hashtag counts as the key engagement driver in Seoul and the presence of people in Tokyo. Seoul and Tokyo project distinct visual narratives and elicit different engagement patterns on Instagram. These findings offer practical implications for destination marketers, suggesting tailored content strategies and location-based campaigns targeting identified hotspots and specific content themes. This study underscores the value of integrating quantitative and qualitative analyses of social media data for nuanced destination marketing insights. Full article

The FLEX-S3 mission by ESA will deliver key Level 2 products such as sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) and vegetation-reflected radiance. To validate these, the SpaFLEX project, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, is developing a robust calibration and validation strategy in Spain. This includes test site setup, instrument characterization, and sampling protocols. A field campaign was conducted in two Holm Oak forests in Teruel, analyzing Sentinel-2 spatial heterogeneity and collecting ground, UAV, and airborne data. The results support scaling procedures to match the 300 m pixel resolution of FLEX-S3, ensuring product accuracy and compliance with ESA standards. Full article

Traditional energy conservation policies have primarily relied on economic incentives and informational campaigns. However, recent insights from behavioral and social sciences indicate that subtle behavioral interventions, particularly social nudges, can significantly influence household electricity use. This paper presents a structured review of 23 recent field studies examining how social nudging strategies, such as peer comparison, group identity, and normative messaging, have contributed to measurable reductions in electricity consumption. By analyzing intervention outcomes across different regions and formats, we identify key success factors, limitations, and policy implications. Special attention is given to ethical considerations, fairness in implementation, and potential challenges in sustaining behavior change. This study offers a framework for integrating social nudges into future energy policies, emphasizing their role as low-cost, scalable tools for promoting sustainable energy behavior. Full article

This study evaluates the feasibility and visibility of electric vehicles (EVs) in Egypt, addressing critical research gaps and proposing actionable strategies to drive adoption. Employing a systematic review of academic, governmental, and industry sources, the paper identifies underexplored areas such as rural–urban adoption disparities, lifecycle assessments of EV batteries, and sociocultural barriers, including gender dynamics and entrenched consumer preferences. Its primary contribution is an interdisciplinary framework that integrates technical aspects, such as grid resilience and climate-related battery degradation, with socioeconomic dimensions, providing a holistic overview of EV feasibility in Egypt tailored to Egypt’s context. Key findings reveal infrastructure limitations, inconsistent policy frameworks, and behavioral skepticism as major hurdles, and highlight the untapped potential of renewable energy integration, particularly through synergies between solar PV generation (e.g., Benban Solar Park) and EV charging infrastructure. Recommendations prioritize policy reforms (e.g., tax incentives, streamlined tariffs), solar-powered charging infrastructure expansion, public awareness campaigns, and local EV manufacturing to stimulate economic growth. This study presents preliminary findings from an experimental campaign conducted on a pilot-scale green hydrogen production plant powered by a photovoltaic (PV) system. The integrated setup, implemented at the University “Mediterranea” of Reggio Calabria, includes renewable energy generation, hydrogen production via electrolysis, on-site storage, and reconversion through fuel cells. The investigation assessed system performance under different configurations (on-grid and selective stand-alone modes), focusing on key operational phases such as inerting, purging, pressurization, hydrogen generation, and depressurization. Results indicate a strong linear correlation between the electrolyser’s power setpoint and the pressure rise rate, with a maximum gradient of 0.236 bar/min observed at 75% power input. The system demonstrated robust and stable operation, efficient control of shutdown sequences, and effective integration with PV input. These outcomes support the technical feasibility of small-scale hydrogen systems driven by renewables and offer valuable reference data for calibration models and future optimization strategies. Edible insects are emerging as a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative protein source, addressing global challenges in food security and environmental sustainability. This study investigates the willingness and acceptance of edible insects as sustainable alternative protein sources among Saudi participants, focusing on sociodemographic and attitudinal factors. A cross-sectional survey involving 2208 participants revealed that males and younger individuals (18–34 years) exhibited greater willingness to consume EIs, driven by environmental concerns, health benefits, and positive beliefs. Women and older participants showed higher levels of food neophobia, disgust, and uncertainty. Sociocultural barriers such as fear, a lack of familiarity, and perceptions of edible insects as unclean or forbidden were significant obstacles to acceptance and willingness. Interestingly, the education level did not significantly influence willingness, suggesting that cultural and religious norms may overshadow its impact. These findings underscore the need for targeted campaigns emphasizing the health, environmental, and sustainability benefits of edible insects, alongside culturally sensitive approaches to overcome psychological and social barriers. This research provides valuable insights to guide strategies for integrating EIs into Saudi diets as a step toward enhanced food security and environmental sustainability. Full article

Rabies is a fatal but entirely vaccine-preventable disease, with the highest risk in areas where free-roaming domestic dogs are prevalent. Understanding dog owners’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) is crucial for shaping effective rabies control strategies. This scoping review aimed to synthesize global evidence from studies evaluating dog owners’ KAP to identify behavioral factors relevant to rabies prevention and control. A systematic literature search was conducted using PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus, covering the period from 2012 to 2025. Seventy full-text articles were included based on predefined criteria. The findings reveal substantial gaps in dog owners’ knowledge, beliefs, and behaviors regarding rabies prevention. While general awareness of rabies is high among dog owners, their knowledge about transmission, clinical signs, and the fatal nature of the disease is inconsistent, with significant variability across studies. The vaccination uptake also varied widely across studies, ranging from less than 1% to over 90%, with no study reporting full coverage. Furthermore, a strong positive correlation was found between vaccination practice and the awareness of vaccine benefits (r = 0.69, p = 0.004). Common barriers to vaccination include lack of information, vaccine accessibility, distance to clinics, and personal constraints. These insights underscore the importance of early and targeted communication about vaccination campaigns. Future research should focus on periodically evaluating KAP before and after interventions to better inform rabies control efforts. Full article

This study investigated the presence and distribution of macrolitter along four beach sites on the Ferrara coast, North-eastern Italy. At each site, monitoring campaigns were conducted from summer 2023 to summer 2024 to assess seasonal and cross-shore fluctuations of litter items and their relations with local geomorphological features. Following the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, 5627 litter items were collected, with an average density of 0.61 ± 0.23 items/m2. Plastic was the dominant material, representing 94% of the total. The Clean Coast Index (CCI) was applied to evaluate beach cleanliness, seasonal patterns, and cross-shore litter distribution. Although the sites were generally classified as “Clean”, CCI values revealed a progressive decline in cleanliness from summer to spring. Litter was especially accumulated in the upper backshore and at the dune foot. All macrolitter items were classified by material, typology, and usage category to identify potential sources of release, following the Joint List of Litter Categories for Marine Macrolitter Monitoring. The “Top 10” of the most collected items was compiled per each site, season, and geomorphological zone. The results underscore the relevance of high-resolution monitoring programs to support the development of targeted management strategies for effective beach litter mitigation. Full article

This article explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in digital marketing through social and mobile networks and its role in fostering sustainable consumer behavior. AI enhances personalization, sentiment analysis, and campaign automation, reshaping marketing dynamics and enabling brands to engage interactively with users. A quantitative study conducted on 501 social media users evaluates how perceived benefits, risks, trust, transparency, satisfaction, and social norms influence the acceptance of AI-driven marketing tools. Using structural equation modeling (SEM), the findings show that social norms and perceived transparency significantly enhance trust in AI, while perceived benefits and satisfaction drive user acceptance; conversely, perceived risks and negative emotions undermine trust. From a sustainability perspective, AI supports the efficient targeting and personalization of eco-conscious content, aligning marketing with environmentally responsible practices. This study contributes to ethical AI and sustainable digital strategies by offering empirical evidence and practical insights for responsible AI integration in marketing. Full article

This work aims to assess the droplets produced by a novel evaporation process, proposed as an alternative for managing tequila vinasses, using a spectral camera with three spectral bands and a thermal camera mounted on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). High-resolution satellite images with seven spectral bands complemented this characterization. The spectral characterization was conducted by comparing three experimental conditions: the background of the study area without droplets, the droplets generated from purified water, and the droplets produced from tequila vinasses. Two monitoring campaigns, conducted in November 2024 and January 2025, revealed that the tequila vinasse droplets exhibited a maximum influence radius of 16 m, primarily regulated by wind speed conditions (6–16 km/h). Thermal analysis identified the droplet plume as a zone with a lower temperature, creating a thermal contrast of up to 6.6 °C against the average background temperature of 36.6 °C. No significant difference was observed in the influence radius between the droplets generated from vinasse and those from potable water. Spectral analysis of the UAV and satellite images showed significant (p < 0.05) differences in reflectance when the droplets were present (e.g., the coastal blue band increased from an average of 14.43 to 95.59 when vinasse droplets were present). This suggests that the presence of chemical compounds altered light absorption and reflection. However, the instrument’s sensitivity limited the detection of organic compounds at concentrations below its detection limit. The monitoring data presented in this manuscript is crucial for developing strategies to mitigate the potential environmental impacts of the droplets emitted by this novel process. Full article

This research explores the relationship between the moon phases and the occurrence of nighttime WVCs in Serbia from 2015 to 2023. A total of 2767 nighttime incidents were analyzed to assess whether the full moon is associated with an increased collision frequency. The results revealed a statistically significant rise in the average annual number of WVCs during full moon nights compared to other nights, indicating that increased lunar illumination may affect animal movement and impact collision rates. However, no statistically significant differences were observed when comparing the frequency of WVCs across all four lunar phases. Spatial analysis identified the South Bačka and Podunavlje districts as the most at-risk regions for WVCs during full moon periods. As the first study of its kind in Serbia, this research provides new insights into the spatial and temporal patterns of WVCs. The findings can assist in developing focused mitigation strategies, such as improved signage, speed control strategies, and awareness campaigns, especially in regions with increased risk during full moon nights. Shaking off the forgetfulness towards the methodological power of inosine-mediated error-prone PCR (epPCR), this study reintroduces an often-underappreciated method as a considerably powerful approach for generating aptamer libraries from a single decameric ATCG-repeat-oligonucleotide. The aim was to demonstrate that this simple way of creating sequence diversity was suitable for delivering functional starting libraries for a set of ten whole-cell-SELEX (Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment) processes. This epPCR method uses inosine to introduce targeted mutations, avoiding the need for commercial oligo pools or large-scale synthesis. We applied this method to a “universal aptamer” and subjected the three resulting libraries to two rounds of selection against ten diverse targets including probiotic and pathogenic bacteria (Gram-negative and -positive) as well as human cell lines. The enriched aptamers exhibited new binding specificities, demonstrating that the approach supports functional selection. Much like dusting off an old tool and finding it perfectly suited for a modern task, this work shows that revisiting established techniques can address current challenges in aptamer development. Our main finding is that epPCR provides a robust, cost-effective strategy for generating starting libraries and lowers the barrier for initiating successful SELEX campaigns. Full article

With the rapid evolution of social computing, online sentiments have become valuable information for analyzing the latent structure of social networks. Sentiment leaders in social networks are those who bring in new information, ideas, and innovations, disseminate them to the masses, and thus influence the opinions and sentiment of others. Identifying sentiment leaders can help businesses predict marketing campaigns, adjust marketing strategies, maintain their partnerships, and improve their products’ reputations. However, capturing the complex sentiment dynamics from multi-hop interactions and trust/distrust relationships, as well as identifying leaders within sentiment-aligned communities while maximizing sentiment spread efficiently through both direct and indirect paths, is a significant challenge to be addressed. This paper pioneers a challenging and important problem of sentiment leader identification in social networks. To this end, we propose an original solution framework called “SentiRank” and develop the associated algorithms to identify sentiment leaders. SentiRank contains three key technical steps: (1) constructing a sentiment graph from a social network; (2) detecting sentiment communities; (3) ranking the nodes on the selected sentiment communities to identify sentiment leaders. Extensive experimental results based on the real-world datasets demonstrate that the proposed framework and algorithms outperform the existing algorithms in terms of both one-step sentiment coverage and all-path sentiment coverage. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm performs around 6.5 times better than the random approach in terms of sentiment coverage maximization. Full article
