Among the approximately 60,000 bone stick fragments unearthed from the Weiyang Palace site of the Han Dynasty, about 57,000 bear inscriptions. Most of these fragments exhibit vertical fractures, leading to a separation between the upper and lower fragments, which poses significant challenges to digital preservation and artifact restoration. Manual matching is inefficient and may cause further damage to the bone sticks. This paper proposes a novel multimodal bone stick matching approach that integrates image, inscription, and archeological information to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of matching fragmented bone stick artifacts. Unlike traditional methods that rely solely on image data, our method leverages large-scale pre-trained models, namely Vision-RWKV for visual feature extraction, RWKV for inscription analysis, and BERT for archeological metadata encoding. A dynamic cross-modal feature fusion mechanism is introduced to effectively combine these features, enabling better interaction and weighting based on the contextual relevance of each modality. This approach significantly improves matching performance, particularly in challenging cases involving fractures, corrosion, and missing sections. The novelty of this method lies in its ability to simultaneously extract and fuse multiple sources of information, addressing the limitations of traditional image-based matching methods. This paper uses Rank-N and Cumulative Match Characteristic (CMC) curves as evaluation metrics. Experimental evaluation shows that the matching accuracy reaches 94.73% at Rank-15, and the method performs significantly better than the comparative methods on the CMC evaluation curve, demonstrating outstanding performance. Overall, this approach significantly enhances the efficiency and accuracy of bone stick artifact matching, providing robust technical support for the research and restoration of bone stick cultural heritage. Electric motors play a decisive role in electric vehicles by converting electrical energy into mechanical motion across various drivetrain components. However, failures in these motors can interrupt the motor function, with approximately 40% of these failures stemming from bearing issues. Key contributors to bearing degradation include shaft voltage, bearing current, and electric discharge material spalling current, especially in motors powered by inverters or variable frequency drives. This review explores the tribological and vibrational aspects of bearing currents, analyzing their mechanisms and influence on electric motor performance. It addresses the challenges faced by electric vehicles, such as high-speed operation, elevated temperatures, electrical conductivity, and energy efficiency. This study investigates the origins of bearing currents, damage linked to shaft voltage and electric discharge material spalling current, and the effects of lubricant properties on bearing functionality. Moreover, it covers various methods for measuring shaft voltage and bearing current, as well as strategies to alleviate the adverse impacts of bearing currents. This comprehensive analysis aims to shed light on the detrimental effects of bearing currents on the performance and lifespan of electric motors in electric vehicles, emphasizing the importance of tribological considerations for reliable operation and durability. The aim of this study is to address the engineering problem of bearing failure in inverter-fed EV motors by integrating electrical, tribological, and lubrication perspectives. The novelty lies in proposing a conceptual link between lubricant breakdown and damage morphology to guide mitigation strategies. The study tasks include literature review, analysis of bearing current mechanisms and diagnostics, and identification of technological trends. The impact mechanism of long-term creep in gas-containing coal on coal and gas outbursts has not been fully elucidated and remains insufficiently understood for the purpose of disaster engineering control. This investigation conducted triaxial creep experiments on raw coal specimens under controlled confining pressures, axial stresses, and gas pressures. Through systematic analysis of coal’s physical responses across different loading conditions, we developed and validated a novel creep damage constitutive model for gas-saturated coal through laboratory data calibration. The key findings reveal three characteristic creep regimes: (1) a decelerating phase dominates under low stress conditions, (2) progressive transitions to combined decelerating–steady-state creep with increasing stress, and (3) triphasic decelerating–steady–accelerating behavior at critical stress levels. Comparative analysis shows that gas-free specimens exhibit lower cumulative strain than the 0.5 MPa gas-saturated counterparts, with gas presence accelerating creep progression and reducing the time to failure. Measured creep rates demonstrate stress-dependent behavior: primary creep progresses at 0.002–0.011%/min, decaying exponentially to secondary creep rates below 0.001%/min. Steady-state creep rates follow a power law relationship when subject to deviatoric stress (R2 = 0.96). Through the integration of Burgers viscoelastic model with the effective stress principle for porous media, we propose an enhanced constitutive model, incorporating gas adsorption-induced dilatational stresses. This advancement provides a theoretical foundation for predicting time-dependent deformation in deep coal reservoirs and informs monitoring strategies concerning gas-bearing strata stability. This study contributes to the theoretical understanding and engineering monitoring of creep behavior in deep coal rocks. Full article

Variations in damper configuration strategies have a direct impact on the seismic damage patterns of long-span deck-type concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) arch bridges. This study developed an analysis and evaluation framework to identify the damage category, state, and progression sequence of structural components. The framework aims to investigate the influence of viscous dampers on the seismic response and damage patterns of long-span deck-type CFST arch bridges under near-fault pulse-like ground motions. The effects of different viscous damper configuration strategies and design parameters on seismic responses of long-span deck-type CFST arch bridges were systematically investigated, and the preferred configuration and parameter set were identified. The influence of preferred viscous damper configurations on seismic damage patterns of long-span deck-type CFST arch bridges was systematically analyzed through the established analysis and evaluation frameworks. The results indicate that a relatively optimal reduction in bridge response can be achieved when viscous dampers are simultaneously installed at both the abutments and the approach piers. Minimum seismic responses were attained at a damping exponent α = 0.2 and damping coefficient C = 6000 kN/(m/s), demonstrating stability in mitigating vibration effects on arch rings and bearings. In the absence of damper implementation, the lower chord arch foot section is most likely to experience in-plane bending failure. The piers, influenced by the coupling effect between the spandrel construction and the main arch ring, are more susceptible to damage as their height decreases. Additionally, the end bearings are more prone to failure compared to the central-span bearings. Implementation of the preferred damper configuration strategy maintains essentially consistent sequences in seismic-induced damage patterns of the bridge, but the peak ground motion intensity causing damage to the main arch and spandrel structure is significantly increased. This strategy enhances the damage-initiation peak ground acceleration (PGA) for critical sections of the main arch, while concurrently reducing transverse and longitudinal bending moments in pier column sections. The proposed integrated analysis and evaluation framework has been validated for its applicability in capturing the seismic damage patterns of long-span deck-type CFST arch bridges. Full article

With the electrification of generator sets, electric locomotives, new energy vehicles, and other industries, AC motors subject bearings to an electric field environment, leading to galvanic corrosion due to the use of variable frequency power supply drives. The phenomenon of bearing discharge breakdown in subway traction motors is a critical issue in understanding the relationship between shaft current strength and the extent of bearing damage. This paper analyzes the mechanism of impulse discharge that leads to galvanic corrosion damage in bearings at a microscopic level and conducts electric thermal coupling simulations of the traction motor bearing discharge breakdown process. It examines the temperature rise associated with lubricant film discharge breakdown during the dynamic operation of the bearing and investigates how breakdown channel parameters and operational conditions affect the temperature rise in the micro-region of bearing lubrication. Ultimately, the results of the electric thermal coupling simulation are validated through experimental tests. This study revealed that in an electric field environment, the load-bearing area of the outer ring experiences significantly more severe corrosion damage than the inner ring, whereas non-bearing areas remain unaffected by electrolytic corrosion. When the inner ring reaches a speed of 4500_rpm, the maximum widths of electrolytic corrosion pits for the outer and inner rings are measured at 89 um and 51 um, respectively. Additionally, the highest recorded temperatures for the breakdown channels in the outer and inner rings are 932 °C and 802 °C, respectively. Furthermore, as the inner ring speed increases, both the width of the electrolytic corrosion pits and the temperature of the breakdown channels rise. Specifically, at inner ring speeds of 2500_rpm, 3500_rpm, and 4500_rpm, the widths of the electrolytic pits in the outer ring raceway load zone were measured at 34 um, 56 um, and 89 um, respectively. The highest temperatures of the lubrication film breakdown channels were recorded as 612 °C, 788 °C, and 932 °C, respectively. This study provides a theoretical basis and data support for the protective and maintenance practices of traction motor bearings. Full article

This study investigates the mechanical, morphological, and wear properties of SiO2-filled tri-axial warp-knitted (TWK) glass fiber-reinforced vinyl ester matrix composites, with a focus on void fraction, tensile, flexural, hardness, and wear behavior. Adding SiO2 fillers reduced void fractions, enhancing composite strength, with values ranging from 1.63% to 5.31%. Tensile tests revealed that composites with 5 wt% SiO2 (GV1) exhibited superior tensile strength, Young’s modulus, and elongation due to enhanced fiber–matrix interaction. Conversely, composites with 10 wt% SiO2 (GV2) showed decreased tensile performance, indicating increased brittleness. Flexural tests demonstrated that GV1 outperformed GV2, showcasing higher flexural strength, elastic modulus, and deflection, reflecting improved load-bearing capacity at optimal filler content. Shore D hardness tests confirmed that GV1 had the highest hardness among the specimens. SEM analysis revealed wear behavior under various loads and sliding distances. GV1 exhibited minimal wear loss at lower loads and distances, while higher loads caused significant matrix detachment and fiber damage. These findings highlight the importance of optimizing SiO2 filler content to enhance epoxy composites’ mechanical and tribological performance. Full article

Transmission towers are particularly vulnerable to extreme wind events, which can lead to structural damage or collapse, thereby compromising the stability of power transmission systems. Enhancing the wind-resistant capacity of these towers is therefore critical for improving the reliability and resilience of electrical infrastructure. This study utilizes finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate the structural response of a 220 kV transmission tower subjected to fluctuating wind loads, effectively capturing the dynamic characteristics of wind-induced forces. A comprehensive dynamic analysis is conducted to account for uncertainties in wind loading and variations in wind direction. Through this approach, this study identifies the most critical wind angle and local structural weaknesses, as well as determines the threshold wind speed that precipitates structural collapse. To improve structural resilience, a concurrent multi-scale modeling strategy is adopted. This allows for localized analysis of vulnerable components while maintaining a holistic understanding of the tower’s global behavior. To mitigate failure risks, the traditional perforated plate reinforcement technique is implemented. The reinforcement’s effectiveness is evaluated based on its impact on load-bearing capacity, displacement control, and stress redistribution. Results reveal that the critical wind direction is 45°, with failure predominantly initiating from instability in the third section of the tower leg. Post-reinforcement analysis demonstrates a marked improvement in structural performance, evidenced by a significant reduction in top displacement and stress intensity in the critical leg section. Overall, these findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the wind-induced fragility of transmission towers and offer practical reinforcement strategies that can be applied to enhance their structural integrity under extreme wind conditions. In Gram-negative bacteria, lipopolysaccharides (LPSs, also known as endotoxin) can induce extensive immune responses that will enable victims to produce severe septic shock syndrome. Because of the high mortality of sepsis in the face of standard treatment, advance detoxification schemes are urgently needed in clinics. Herein, we described a supramolecular detoxification approach via direct host–guest complexation by a giant macrocycle. Cationic pentaphen[3]arene (CPP3) bearing multiple quaternary ammonium groups was screened as a candidate antidote. CPP3 exhibited robust binding affinity toward LPS with an association constant of (4.79 ± 0.29) × 108 M−1. Co-dosing with an equivalent amount of CPP3 has been demonstrated to decrease LPS-induced cytotoxicity on a cellular level through inhibiting ROS generation and proinflammatory cytokine expression. In vivo experiments have further proved that post-treatment by CPP3 could significantly improve the survival rate of LPS-poisoned mice from 0 to 100% over a period of 3 days, and inflammatory abnormalities and tissue damage were also alleviated. As the core device for protecting the safety of the pressure-bearing system, the spring full-open safety valve is prone to various forms of valve seat sealing surface damage after long-term opening and closing impact, corrosion, and medium erosion, which may lead to internal leakage. In view of the problems that the high-frequency acoustic emission signal of the internal leakage of the safety valve has, namely, a large number of energy-overlapping areas in the frequency domain, the overall signal presents broadband characteristics, large noise content, and no obvious time–frequency characteristics. A composite denoising method, IWTD, improved wavelet threshold function with dual adjustable factors, and the improved VMD algorithm is proposed. In view of the problem that the optimal values of the dual adjustment factors a and b of the function are difficult to determine manually, an improved dung beetle optimization algorithm is proposed, with the maximum Pearson coefficient as the optimization target; the optimization is performed within the value range of the dual adjustable factors a and b, so as to obtain the optimal value. In view of the problem that the key parameters K and α in VMD decomposition are difficult to determine manually, the maximum Pearson coefficient is taken as the optimization target, and the improved dung beetle algorithm is used to optimize within the value range of K and α, so as to obtain the IVMD algorithm. Based on the IVMD algorithm, the characteristic decomposition of the internal leakage acoustic emission signal occurs after the denoising of the IWTD function is performed to further improve the denoising effect. The results show that the Pearson coefficients of all types of internal leakage acoustic emission signals after IWTD-IVMD composite noise reduction are greater than 0.9, which is much higher than traditional noise reduction methods such as soft and hard threshold functions. Therefore, the IWTD-IVMD composite noise reduction method can extract more main features out of the measured spring full-open safety valve internal leakage acoustic emission signals, and has a good noise reduction effect. Feature recognition after noise reduction can provide a good evaluation for the safe operation of the safety valve. Full article

The Korla fragrant pear is a highly valued economic fruit in China’s Xinjiang region. However, biomechanical data on the fruit-bearing branches and pedicels of this species remain incomplete, which to some extent hinders the advancement of harvesting equipment and techniques. Therefore, refining these data is of great significance for the development of efficient and non-destructive harvesting strategies. This study aims to elucidate the mechanical properties of the fruiting branches and peduncles of Korla fragrant pears, thereby establishing a theoretical foundation for the future development of intelligent harvesting technology for this variety. The research utilized axial and radial compression tests, along with three-point bending test methods, to quantitatively analyze the elastic modulus and shear modulus of the branches and peduncles. The test results reveal that the elastic modulus of the fruiting branches under axial compression is 263.51 ± 76.51 MPa, while under radial compression, it measures 135.53 ± 73.73 MPa (where ± represents the standard deviation). In comparison, the elastic modulus of the peduncles is recorded at 152.96 ± 119.95 MPa. Additionally, the three-point bending test yielded a shear modulus of 75.48 ± 32.84 MPa for the branches and 30.23 ± 8.50 MPa for the peduncles. Using finite element static structural analysis, the simulation results aligned closely with the experimental data, falling within an acceptable error range, thus validating the reliability of the testing methods and outcomes. The mechanical parameters obtained in this study are critical for modeling the stress and deformation behaviors of pear-bearing structures during mechanical harvesting. These findings provide valuable theoretical support for the optimization of harvesting device design and operational strategies, with the aim of reducing fruit damage and improving harvesting efficiency in pear orchards. However, there is a paucity of research on the torsional effects of RC beams, particularly concerning the torsional failure mechanisms of large-size beams. To address this gap, this paper establishes a meso-scale numerical analysis model for RC beams reinforced with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets under combined bending and torsion pressures. The results indicate that an increase in the fiber ratio leads to accumulated damage distribution in the RC beam, a gradual decrease in CFRP sheet strain, and an increase in peak load and peak torque, albeit with diminishing amplitudes; as the torsion-bending ratio increases, crack distribution becomes more concentrated, the angle between cracks and the horizontal direction decreases, overall peak load decreases, peak torque increases, and CFRP sheet strain increases; and the nominal torsional capacity of CFRP-strengthened RC beams declines with increasing size, exhibiting a reduction of 24.1% to 35.6%, which distinctly demonstrates the torsional size effect under bending–torsion coupling conditions. A modified Torque Size Effect Law is formulated, characterizing in quantitative terms the dependence of the fiber ratio and the torsion-bending ratio. Full article

This study investigates the fire dynamics and structural response of steel-framed warehouse racking systems under various fire scenarios, emphasizing the critical importance of fire safety measures in mitigating structural damage. Through advanced computational simulations (Fire Dynamics Simulator) and thermomechanical analysis, this research reveals that fire intensity and progression are highly influenced by the ignition point and the stored material types, with maximum recorded temperatures reaching 720 °C and 970 °C in different scenarios. The results highlight the localization of significant strain and drift ratios in structural elements near the ignition zone, underscoring their vulnerability. This study demonstrates the rapid loss of load-bearing capacity in steel elements at elevated temperatures, leading to severe deformations and increased collapse risks. Key findings emphasize the necessity of strategically positioned sprinkler systems and the integration of passive fire protection measures, such as fire-resistant coatings, to enhance structural resilience. Performance-based fire design approaches, aligning with FEMA-356 criteria, offer realistic frameworks for improving the fire safety of warehouse structures. Full article

Geogrids are frequently utilized in engineering for reinforcement; yet, they are vulnerable to construction damage when employed on coarse-grained soil subgrades. In contrast, waste tire grids are more appropriate for subgrade reinforcement owing to their rough surfaces, integrated steel meshes, robust transverse ribs, extended degradation cycles, and superior durability. Based on the limit equilibrium theory, this study developed formulae for calculating the internal and external frictional resistance, as well as the end resistance of waste tires, to ascertain the interface bearing properties and calculation techniques of waste tire grids. Based on this, a mechanical model for the ultimate pull-out resistance of waste-tire-reinforced soil was developed, and its validity was confirmed through a series of pull-out tests on single-sided strips, double-sided strips, and tire grids. The results indicated that the tensile strength of one side of the strip was approximately 43% of that of both sides, and the rough outer surface of the tire significantly enhanced the tensile performance of the strip; under identical normal stress, the tensile strength of the single-sided tire grid was roughly nine times and four times greater than that of the single-sided and double-sided strips, respectively, and the grid structure exhibited superior anti-deformation capabilities compared to the strip structure. The average discrepancy between the calculated values of the established model and the theoretical values was merely 2.38% (maximum error < 5%). Overall, this research offers technical assistance for ensuring the safety of subgrade design and promoting environmental sustainability in engineering, enabling the effective utilization of waste tire grids in sustainable reinforcement applications. Ensuring the structural integrity of reinforced concrete (RC) components in nuclear facilities exposed to extreme conditions is essential for safe decommissioning. This study investigates the impact of high-temperature exposure on RC pedestal structures supported by steel ring-shaped shear connectors—critical elements for maintaining vertical and lateral load paths in containment systems. Scaled-down cyclic loading tests were performed on pedestal specimens with and without prior thermal exposure, simulating post-accident conditions observed at a damaged nuclear power plant. Experimental results show that thermal degradation significantly reduces lateral stiffness, with failure mechanisms concentrating at the interface between the concrete and the embedded steel skirt. Complementary finite element analyses, incorporating temperature-dependent material degradation, highlight the crucial role of load redistribution to steel components when concrete strength is compromised. Parametric studies reveal that while geometric variations in the inner skirt have limited influence, thermal history is the dominant factor affecting vertical capacity. Notably, even with substantial section loss in the concrete, the steel inner skirt maintained considerable load-bearing capacity. This study establishes a validated analytical framework for assessing structural performance under extreme conditions, offering critical insights for risk evaluation and retrofit strategies in the context of nuclear facility decommissioning. CFRP possesses the advantages of lightweight and high strength, but its cost is relatively high, and its ductility is insufficient; aluminum alloys have a relatively low cost and good ductility. This paper develops a CFRP-aluminum alloy laminated tube (CFRP-AL tube), which combines the advantages of CFRP and aluminum alloy. Such composite components have broad application prospects in the field of spatial structures. The CFRP-AL tubes were studied by experimental, numerical, and theoretical research on their axial compression performance in this paper. Firstly, the standard tensile test was carried out on 6061-T6 aluminum alloy. Combining the test results and references, the Johnson–Cook hardening model parameters of aluminum alloy were determined. The tensile test of CFRP was conducted to determine its material parameters. Based on composite material mechanics and fracture mechanics, a composite progressive damage model for the CFRP-AL tube was established. Secondly, axial compression tests were carried out on 27 CFRP-AL tubes and 3 aluminum alloy tubes with a small slenderness ratio. The test results show that the typical failure mode of CFRP-AL tubes with small slenderness ratios is strength failure, and the ultimate bearing capacity rises by 11~31% compared to aluminum alloy tubes. Thirdly, a user material subroutine capable of simulating CFRP failure was developed. Based on the user material subroutine, the effect of the initial imperfection, the fiber layer angle, the fiber layer thickness, the slenderness ratio, the diameter-thickness ratio and the CFRP volume ratio were discussed. And the failure mechanism and response of the CFRP-AL tubes under the axial compression were obtained. Finally, based on the strength theory, the formula predicting the bearing capacity of the strength failure was established, and the results of the formula were in a good agreement with the experimental and numerical results.
