Intelligent driving technology is expected to reshape urban transportation, but its promotion is hindered by user acceptance challenges and diverse technical routes. This study proposes a comprehensive user acceptance evaluation framework for intelligent driving from the perspective of value engineering (VE). The novelty of this framework lies in three aspects: (1) It unifies behavioral theory and utility theory under the value engineering framework, and it extracts key indicators such as safety, travel efficiency, trust, comfort, and cost, thus addressing the issue of the lack of integration between subjective and objective factors in previous studies. (2) It establishes a systematic mapping mechanism from technical solutions to evaluation indicators, filling the gap of insufficient targeting at different technical routes in the existing literature. (3) It quantifies acceptance differences via VE’s core formula of V = F/C, overcoming the ambiguity of non-technical evaluation in prior research. A case study comparing single-vehicle intelligence vs. collaborative intelligence and different sensor combinations (vision-only, map fusion, and lidar fusion) shows that collaborative intelligence and vision-based solutions offer higher comprehensive acceptance due to balanced functionality and cost. This framework guides enterprises in technical strategy planning and assists governments in formulating industrial policies by quantifying acceptance differences across technical routes. Full article

We establish a rigorous kinetic-theoretical framework to analyze causal propagation in thermal transport phenomena within relativistic ideal fluids, building a more rigorous framework based on the kinetic theory of gases. Specifically, we provide a refined derivation of the wave equation governing thermal and density fluctuations, clarifying its hyperbolic nature and the associated characteristic propagation speeds. The analysis confirms that thermal fluctuations in a simple non-degenerate relativistic fluid satisfy a causal wave equation in the Euler regime, and it recovers the classical expression for the speed of sound in the non-relativistic limit. This work offers enhanced mathematical and physical insights, reinforcing the validity of the hyperbolic description and suggesting a foundation for future studies in dissipative relativistic hydrodynamics. Given the severe global traffic safety challenges—including threats to human lives and socioeconomic impacts—this study analyzes visual behavior to promote sustainable transportation, improve road safety, and reduce resource waste and pollution caused by accidents. Four typical road sections, namely, turning, straight ahead, uphill, and downhill, were selected, and the eye movement data of 23 drivers in different driving stages were collected by aSee Glasses eye-tracking device to analyze the visual gaze characteristics of the drivers and their transfer patterns in each road section. Using Markov chain theory, the probability of staying at each gaze point and the transfer probability distribution between gaze points were investigated. The results of the study showed that drivers’ visual behaviors in different road sections showed significant differences: drivers in the turning section had the largest percentage of fixation on the near front, with a fixation duration and frequency of 29.99% and 28.80%, respectively; the straight ahead section, on the other hand, mainly focused on the right side of the road, with 31.57% of fixation duration and 19.45% of frequency of fixation; on the uphill section, drivers’ fixation duration on the left and right roads was more balanced, with 24.36% of fixation duration on the left side of the road and 25.51% on the right side of the road; drivers on the downhill section looked more frequently at the distance ahead, with a total fixation frequency of 23.20%, while paying higher attention to the right side of the road environment, with a fixation duration of 27.09%. In terms of visual fixation, the fixation shift in the turning road section was mainly concentrated between the near and distant parts of the road ahead and frequently turned to the left and right sides; the straight road section mainly showed a shift between the distant parts of the road ahead and the dashboard; the uphill road section was concentrated on the shift between the near parts of the road ahead and the two sides of the road, while the downhill road section mainly occurred between the distant parts of the road ahead and the rearview mirror. Although drivers’ fixations on the front of the road were most concentrated under the four road sections, with an overall fixation stability probability exceeding 67%, there were significant differences in fixation smoothness between different road sections. Through this study, this paper not only reveals the laws of drivers’ visual behavior under different driving environments but also provides theoretical support for behavior-based traffic safety improvement strategies. Indonesia’s worsening air pollution and traffic emissions have thrust electric vehicles (EVs) into the spotlight, but what really drives Indonesians to make the switch? This study integrates Protection Motivation Theory with green branding and policy frameworks to explain electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Indonesia. Using a nationwide survey (n = 986) and partial-least-squares structural-equation modeling, we test how environmental awareness, consumer expectancy, threat appraisal, and coping appraisal shape adoption both directly and through green brand image (GBI), while perceived policy incentives moderate the GBI–adoption link. The model accounts for 54% of the variance in adoption intention. These findings highlight that combining public awareness campaigns, compelling green brand messaging, and carefully calibrated policy incentives is essential for accelerating Indonesia’s transition to cleaner transport. Functionally graded materials (FGMs) have the potential to revolutionize the oil and gas transportation sector, due to their increased strengths and efficiencies as pipelines. Conventional pipelines frequently face serious problems such as extreme weather, pressure changes, corrosion, and stress-induced pipe bursts. By analyzing the mechanical and thermal performance of FGM-based pipes under various operating conditions, this study investigates the possibility of using them as a more reliable substitute. In the current study, the post-buckling and nonlinear vibration behaviors of pipes composed of FGMs transporting heavy crude oil were examined using a Timoshenko beam framework. The material properties of the FGM pipe were observed to change gradually across the thickness, following a power-law distribution, and were influenced by temperature variations. In this regard, two types of FGM pipes are considered: one with a metal-rich inner surface and ceramic-rich outer surface, and the other with a reverse configuration featuring metal on the outside and ceramic on the inside. The nonlinear governing equations (NGEs) describing the system’s nonlinear dynamic response were formulated by considering nonlinear strain terms through the von Kármán assumptions and employing Hamilton’s principle. These equations were then discretized using Galerkin’s method to facilitate the analytical investigation. The Runge–Kutta method was employed to address the nonlinear vibration problem. It is concluded that, compared with pipelines made from conventional materials, those constructed with FGMs exhibit enhanced thermal resistance and improved mechanical strength. Full article

Firstly, this paper reviews the fundamental theories of solid surface wettability and contact angle hysteresis. Subsequently, it further introduces four typical wettability-engineered surfaces with low hysteresis (superhydrophobic, superamphiphobic, super-slippery, and liquid-like smooth surfaces). Finally, it focuses on the latest research progress in the field of droplet manipulation on open planar surfaces with engineered wettability. To achieve droplet manipulation, the core driving forces primarily stem from natural forces guided by bioinspired gradient surfaces or the regulatory effects of external fields. In terms of bioinspired self-propelled droplet movement, this paper summarizes research inspired by natural organisms such as desert beetles, cacti, self-aligning floating seeds of emergent plants, or water-walking insects, which construct bioinspired special gradient surfaces to induce Laplace pressure differences or wettability gradients on both sides of droplets for droplet manipulation. Moreover, this paper further analyzes the mechanisms, advantages, and limitations of these self-propelled approaches, while summarizing the corresponding driving force sources and their theoretical formulas. For droplet manipulation under external fields, this paper elaborates on various external stimuli including electric fields, thermal fields, optical fields, acoustic fields, and magnetic fields. Among them, electric fields involve actuation mechanisms such as directly applied electrostatic forces and indirectly applied electrocapillary forces; thermal fields influence droplet motion through thermoresponsive wettability gradients and thermocapillary effects; optical fields cover multiple wavelengths including near-infrared, ultraviolet, and visible light; acoustic fields utilize horizontal and vertical acoustic radiation pressure or acoustic wave-induced acoustic streaming for droplet manipulation; the magnetic force acting on droplets may originate from their interior, surface, or external substrates. Based on these different transport principles, this paper comparatively analyzes the unique characteristics of droplet manipulation under the five external fields. Finally, this paper summarizes the current challenges and issues in the research of droplet manipulation on the open planar surfaces and provides an outlook on future development directions in this field. Many low-temperature applications, such as rocket engines and liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport pumps, necessitate ultra-low-temperature operational environments. In these conditions, the properties of lubricating oils and greases are significantly influenced by temperature, leading to the widespread adoption of solid lubrication. Currently, there is no international research regarding the influence of bearing coatings on the subsurface stress distribution in raceways. The Lundberg–Palmgren (L-P) theory states that subsurface stress variations govern bearing lifespan. Therefore, this paper utilizes existing formulas and Python programming to calculate the subsurface stress field of the inner raceway in a MoS2 solid-lubricated angular contact ball bearing. Furthermore, it analyzes the impacts of factors such as coating material properties, slide-to-roll ratio, traction coefficient, and load on its subsurface stress field. The results reveal that for solid-lubricated ball bearings, as the load increases, the maximum subsurface stress shifts closer to the center of the contact area, and the maximum subsurface shear stress becomes more concentrated. As the traction coefficient increases, the stress on the XZ-plane side increases and its position moves closer to the surface, while the opposite trend is observed on the other side. Additionally, the maximum value of the subsurface von Mises stress is approximately 0.64P0, and the maximum value of the orthogonal shear stress component τyz in the subsurface is approximately 0.25P0. This study examines a convergence event at the trailing end of a cold front observed in the United States’ Southern Great Plains region on 28 September 1997, using an array of in situ and remote sensing instruments. The event exhibited a structure with elevated divergence near 3 km AGL and moisture transport over both warm and cold sectors. Data from Raman lidar (RL), Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer (AERI), and Radar Wind Profilers (RWP) were used to characterize vertical profiles of the event, revealing the presence of a narrow moist updraft, horizontal moisture advection, and cloud development ahead of the front. Convection parameters, Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE) and Convective Inhibition (CIN), were derived from collocated AERI and RL. Regions of high CAPE were aligned with areas of high moisture, indicating that convection was more favorable at moist elevated levels than near the surface. RWP observations revealed vorticity structures consistent with existing theories. This study highlights the value of high-resolution, continuous profiling from remote sensors to resolve mesoscale processes and evaluate convection potential. The event underscores the role of elevated moisture and wind shear in modulating convection initiation along a trailing-end cold front boundary where mesoscale and synoptic forces interact. Spatial association analysis is essential for understanding interdependencies, spatial proximity, and distribution patterns within spatial data. The spatial scale is a key factor that significantly affects the result of spatial association mining. Traditional methods often rely on a fixed distance threshold (bandwidth) to define the scale effect, which can lead to scale sensitivity and discontinuity results. To address these limitations, this study introduces the Fuzzy Geographically Weighted Colocation Quotient (FGWCLQ) method. By integrating fuzzy theory, FGWCLQ replaces binary distance cutoffs with continuous membership functions, providing a more flexible and stable approach to spatial association mining. Using Point of Interest (POI) data from the Beijing urban area, FGWCLQ was applied to explore both intra- and inter-category spatial association patterns among star hotels, transportation facilities, and tourist attractions at different fuzzy neighborhoods. The results indicate that FGWCLQ can reliably discover global prevalent spatial associations among diverse facility types and visualize the spatial heterogeneity at various spatial scales. Compared to the deterministic GWCLQ method, FGWCLQ delivers more stable and robust results across varying spatial scales and generates more continuous association surfaces, which enable clear visualization of hierarchical clustering. Empirical findings provide valuable insights for optimizing the location of star hotels and supporting decision-making in urban planning. The method is available as an open-source Matlab package, providing a practical tool for diverse spatial association investigations. Full article

Highway accessibility plays a vital role in supporting local economic development, particularly in regions lacking access to sea or river ports. Recognizing the functional transformation of road infrastructure, the Chinese government has made substantial investments in its expansion. Nevertheless, a theoretical gap remains in justifying whether such investments yield significant economic returns. Drawing on the theory of economic externalities, this study investigates the causal relationship between highway development and regional economic growth, and assesses whether highway construction leads to an acceleration in growth rates. Utilizing panel data from 14 Chinese cities spanning 2000 to 2014, the synthetic control method (SCM) is employed to evaluate the economic externalities of highway investment. The results indicate a positive impact on surrounding industries. Furthermore, a growth rate forecasting analysis based on Back-Propagation Neural Networks (BPNNs) is conducted using industrial enterprise data from 2005 to 2014. The growth rate in the treated city is 1.144%, which is close to the real number 1.117%, higher than the number for the weighted control group, which is 1.000%. The findings suggest that the growth rate of total industrial output improved significantly, confirming the existence of positive spillover effects. This not only enriches the empirical literature on transport infrastructure but also provides targeted enlightenment for the sustainable development of urban economy in terms of policy guidance. This study investigates the performance of Cu-intercalated V3O7·H2O (CuVOH) as a cathode material for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were conducted to explore the effects of Cu2+ incorporation and structural water on the electrochemical performance of VOH. The results indicated that Cu2+ and structural water enhance Zn2+ diffusion by reducing electrostatic resistance and facilitating faster transport. Based on these insights, CuVOH nanobelts were synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal method. The experimental results confirmed the DFT predictions, demonstrating that CuVOH exhibited an initial discharge capacity of 336.1 mAh g−1 at 0.2 A g−1 and maintained a high cycling stability with 98.7% retention after 1000 cycles at 10 A g−1. The incorporation of Cu2+ pillars and interlayer water improved the structural stability and Zn2+ diffusion, offering enhanced rate performance and long-term cycling stability. The study highlights the effective integration of computational and experimental methods to optimize cathode materials for high-performance AZIBs, providing a promising strategy for the development of stable and efficient energy storage systems. The potential damage to aviation products caused by vibration and shock during road transportation has long been overlooked, despite structural failure under dynamic loading emerging as a critical technical challenge affecting product reliability. For aviation components, both stress and vibration analysis are essential prerequisites prior to formal assembly. This study investigates a symmetric vertical tail, a common aviation structure, employing an innovative model group analysis method to characterize its dynamic stress and strain distributions under real transportation conditions. Experimental measurements of vibration acceleration and impact loads during transport served as input data for constructing a numerical model based on stress and vibration theory. The model elucidates the mechanical responses of the tail in both modal and vibrational states, enabling effectively evaluation of dynamic vibrations on the tail and its critical subcomponents during road transport. The findings provide actionable insights for optimizing aviation component packaging design, mitigating vibration-induced damage, and enhancing transportation safety. Full article

Electrostatics does not involve magnetism, and so current flow and electrodynamics cannot be derived from electrostatics. Practical considerations also prevent current flow from being analyzed one charge at a time. There are too many charges, and far too many interactions to allow computation. Current flow is essential in biology. Currents are carried by electrons in mitochondria in an electron transport chain. Currents are carried by ions in nerve and muscle cells. Currents everywhere follow the rules of current flow: Kirchhoff’s current law and its generalizations. The importance of electron and proton flows in generating ATP was discovered long ago but they were not analyzed as electrical currents. The flow of protons and transport of electrons form circuits that must be analyzed by Kirchhoff’s law. A chemiosmotic theory that ignores the laws of current flow is incorrect physics. Circuit analysis is easily applied to short systems like mitochondria that have just one internal electrical potential in the form of the Hodgkin Huxley Katz (HHK) equation. The HHK equation combined with classical descriptions of chemical reactions forms a computable model of cytochrome c oxidase, part of the electron transport chain. The proton motive force is included as just one of the components of the total electrochemical potential. Circuit analysis includes its role just as it includes the role of any other ionic current. Current laws are now needed to analyze the flow of electrons and protons, as they generate ATP in mitochondria and chloroplasts. Chemiosmotic theory must be replaced by an electro-osmotic theory of ATP production that conforms to the Maxwell Ampere equation of electrodynamics while including proton movement and the proton motive force. “Eyes on the Street” as a Conditioning Factor for Street Safety Comprehension: Quito as a Case Study

The presence of people has a complex relationship with public safety—while it is often associated with increased natural surveillance, it can also attract specific types of crime under certain urban conditions. This exploratory study examines this dual relationship by integrating Jane Jacobs’s urban theories and the principles derived from them in Quito, Ecuador. Anchored in Jacobs’s concept of “eyes on the street,” this research assesses four morphological dimensions—density, land use mixture, contact opportunity, and accessibility through nine specific indicators. A binary logistic regression model is used to examine how these features relate to the incidence of street robberies against individuals. The findings indicate that urban form characteristics that foster “eyes on the street”—such as higher population density and a mix of commercial and residential uses—show statistically significant associations with lower rates of street robbery. However, other indicators of “eyes on the street”—such as larger block sizes, proximity to public transport stations, greater street lighting, and a higher balance between residential and non-residential land uses—correlate with increased crime rates. Some indicators, such as population density, block size, and distance to public transport stations, show statistically significant relationships, though the practical effect size compared to residential/non-residential balance, commercial and facility mix, and street lighting is modest. These results underscore the importance of contextualizing Jacobs’s frameworks and offer a novel contribution to the literature by empirically testing morphological indicators promoting the presence of people against actual crime data. Collaboration between autonomous vehicles and drones can enhance the efficiency and connectivity of three-dimensional transportation systems. When satellite signals are unavailable, vehicles can achieve accurate localization by matching rich ground environmental data to digital maps, simultaneously providing the auxiliary localization information for drones. However, conventional digital maps suffer from high construction costs, easy misalignment, and low localization accuracy. Thus, this paper proposes a visual point cloud map (VPCM) construction and matching localization for autonomous vehicles. We fuse multi-source information from vehicle-mounted sensors and the regional road network to establish the geographically high-precision VPCM. In the absence of satellite signals, we segment the prior VPCM on the road network based on real-time localization results, which accelerates matching speed and reduces mismatch probability. Simultaneously, by continuously introducing matching constraints of real-time point cloud and prior VPCM through improved iterative closest point matching method, the proposed solution can effectively suppress the drift error of the odometry and output accurate fusion localization results based on pose graph optimization theory. The experiments carried out on the KITTI datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, which can autonomously construct the high-precision prior VPCM. The localization strategy achieves sub-meter accuracy and reduces the average error per frame by 25.84% compared to similar methods. Subsequently, this method’s reusability and localization robustness under light condition changes and environment changes are verified using the campus dataset. Compared to the similar camera-based method, the matching success rate increased by 21.15%, and the average localization error decreased by 62.39%. Full article
