Fake News in Tourism: A Systematic Literature Review

In recent years, the number of fake news stories has significantly increased in the world of media, especially with the widespread use of social media. It has impacted several industries, including tourism. From a tourism point of view, the spread of fake news can contribute to the reduction of the popularity of a destination. It may influence travel decisions by discouraging tourists from visiting certain places and thus damage the reputation of the destination, contributing to economic loss. After a literature review on the communication aspect of fake news and a general introduction of fake news in the tourism and hospitality industry, we conducted a systematic literature review (SLR), a research methodology to collect, identify, and analyse available research studies through a systematic procedure. The current SLR is based on the Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases of existing literature on the topic of fake news in the tourism and hospitality industry. The study identifies, lists, and examines existing papers and conference proceedings from a vast array of disciplines, in order to give a well-rounded view on the issue of fake news in the tourism and hospitality industry. After selecting a total of 54 previous studies from more than 20 thousand results for the keywords ‘fake news’ and ‘tourism,’ we have analysed 39 papers in total. The SLR aimed to highlight existing gaps in the literature and areas that may require further exploration in future primary research. We have found that there is relatively limited academic literature available on the subject of fake news affecting tourism destinations, compared to studies focused on hospitality services. Optimization of a Navigation System for Autonomous Charging of Intelligent Vehicles Based on the Bidirectional A* Algorithm and YOLOv11n Model

Aiming to enable intelligent vehicles to achieve autonomous charging under low-battery conditions, this paper presents a navigation system for autonomous charging that integrates an improved bidirectional A* algorithm for path planning and an optimized YOLOv11n model for visual recognition. The system utilizes the improved bidirectional A* algorithm to generate collision-free paths from the starting point to the charging area, dynamically adjusting the heuristic function by combining node–target distance and search iterations to optimize bidirectional search weights, pruning expanded nodes via a greedy strategy and smoothing paths into cubic Bézier curves for practical vehicle motion. For precise localization of charging areas and piles, the YOLOv11n model is enhanced with a CAFMFusion mechanism to bridge semantic gaps between shallow and deep features, enabling effective local–global feature fusion and improving detection accuracy. Experimental evaluations in long corridors and complex indoor environments showed that the improved bidirectional A* algorithm outperforms the traditional improved A* algorithm in all metrics, particularly in that it reduces computation time significantly while maintaining robustness in symmetric/non-symmetric and dynamic/non-dynamic scenarios. The optimized YOLOv11n model achieves state-of-the-art precision (P) and mAP@0.5 compared to YOLOv5, YOLOv8n, and the baseline model, with a minor 0.9% recall (R) deficit compared to YOLOv5 but more balanced overall performance and superior capability for small-object detection. By fusing the two improved modules, the proposed system successfully realizes autonomous charging navigation, providing an efficient solution for energy management in intelligent vehicles in real-world environments. Towards Sustainable Construction: Systematic Review of Lean and Circular Economy Integration

The construction sector significantly contributes to global environmental degradation through intensive resource extraction, high energy consumption, and substantial waste generation. Addressing this unsustainable trajectory requires integrated approaches that simultaneously improve operational efficiency and material circularity. Lean Construction (LC) and Circular Economy (CE) offer complementary frameworks for enhancing process performance and reducing environmental impacts. However, their combined implementation remains underdeveloped and fragmented. This study conducts a systematic literature review (SLR) of 18 peer-reviewed articles published between 2010 and 2025, selected using PRISMA 2020 guidelines and sourced from Scopus and Web of Science databases. A mixed-method approach combines bibliometric mapping and qualitative content analysis to investigate how LC and CE are jointly operationalized in construction contexts. The findings reveal that LC improves cost, time, and workflow reliability, while CE enables reuse, modularity, and lifecycle extension. Integration is further supported by digital tools—such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), and digital twins—which enhance traceability and flow optimization. Nonetheless, persistent barriers—including supply chain fragmentation, lack of standards, and regulatory gaps—continue to constrain widespread adoption. This review identifies six strategic enablers for LC-CE integration: crossdisciplinary competencies, collaborative governance, interoperable digital systems, standardized indicators, incentive-based regulation, and pilot demonstrator projects. By consolidating fragmented evidence, the study provides a structured research agenda and practical insights to guide the transition toward more circular, efficient, and sustainable construction practices. Extra-pulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) can affect any organ of the body, producing a wide variety of clinical manifestations that make the diagnosis and treatment of EPTB challenging. The optimum treatment varies depending on the site of EPTB, its severity, and response to treatment. There is often uncertainty about the best management practices, with a significant departure from national guidelines. This study aims to identify gaps and barriers in adhering to the national guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of EPTB. We included 433 patients having EPTB and followed up at predefined intervals of 2 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months. Questionnaire-based interviews of the treating physician and the patients in different departments were conducted. For confirmatory diagnosis, heavy dependence on clinical-radiological diagnosis without microbiological support was observed, which is a deviation from National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) guidelines and raises concerns about the potential for misdiagnosis and overtreatment. Apart from patient delays, long health system delays in EPTB were observed. The median patient delay, health system delay, and total treatment delay times were 4.2, 4, and 10.1 weeks, respectively. To enhance EPTB diagnosis and management, there is a pressing need for improved access to microbiological testing, enhanced physician training on adherence to NTEP guidelines, and greater utilisation of imaging and histopathological techniques. Rickettsioses Seropositivity in Malaysia: A Six-Year Trend, 2016–2021

Background: Rickettsioses are diseases caused by obligate intracellular non-motile coccobacilli transmitted via arthropods. The most common rickettsioses are scrub typhus (ST), typhus group rickettsioses (TGR), and spotted fever group rickettsioses (SFGR). This study aims to provide information and insight into rickettsioses seropositivity among suspected patients in East and Peninsular Malaysia over a six-year period from 2016 to 2021. Methodology/Principal Findings: Data obtained from four state hospitals and one national research institute providing rickettsial serological testing were analyzed using the IBM SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) software program. The six-year analysis revealed that ST had the highest number of seropositivity cases, followed by TGR, and SFGR, for both immunoglobulin M (IgM) and immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies. Of the 3228 samples, 21.6%, 16.1%, and 13.9% of suspected patients were IgM seropositive for ST, TGR, and SFGR, respectively. IgG seropositivity for ST was 21.9%, followed by TGR at 21.4%, and SFGR at 17.2% among suspected rickettsioses cases. All regions in Malaysia were significantly associated with IgM seropositivity for ST, TGR, and SFGR. IgM seropositivity for SFGR was significantly higher in females. Age group 41–65 years was highly associated with IgG seropositivity for ST, TGR, and SFGR. Conclusions/Significance: Analysis of six-year data on ST, TGR, and SFGR seropositivity in Malaysia revealed variations across regions, age groups, and genders. This seropositivity study underscores ST, TGR, and SFGR as possible causes of acute febrile illness among patients suspected of rickettsial disease in Malaysia. The findings contributed to the awareness of reemerging rickettsioses and warrant public health interventions that may reduce the incidence of rickettsioses in Malaysia. Abstract summary: Scrub typhus (ST), typhus group rickettsioses (TGR), and spotted fever group rickettsioses (SFGR) are significant global public health concerns. Our results showed that the highest number of IgM and IgG seropositivity cases was observed for ST, followed by TGR and SFGR. All regions in Malaysia were significantly associated with IgM seropositivity for ST, TGR, and SFGR. East Malaysia exhibited significantly higher seropositivity for ST, TGR, and SFGR than other regions in Malaysia. IgM seropositivity for SFGR was significantly higher in females. The age group 41–65 years was highly associated with IgG seropositivity for ST, TGR, and SFGR. This study highlights the value of serological data in uncovering the hidden burden of disease in Malaysia. In addition, the findings contributed to bridging knowledge gaps on the limited data from Malaysia spanning extended periods, despite being one of the countries in the endemic Tsutsugamushi Triangle. The findings from this study may direct future research on rickettsioses and warrant public health interventions in Malaysia. Full article

The digital wave, represented by new technologies such as big data, IoT, and artificial intelligence, is sweeping the globe, driving all industries toward digitalization and intelligent transformation. Digital twins are becoming an indispensable opportunity for new infrastructure initiatives. As geotechnical engineering constitutes a critical component of new infrastructure, its corresponding digital transformation is essential to align with these initiatives. However, due to the difficulty of modeling, the demand for computing resources, interdisciplinary integration, and other issues, current digital twin applications in geotechnical engineering remain in their nascent stage. This paper delineates the developmental status of geotechnical digital twin technology in China, and it focuses on the advantages and disadvantages of digital twins in five application fields, identifying key challenges, including intelligent sensing and interconnectivity of multi-source heterogeneous physical entities, integrated sharing of 3D geological models and structural models, unified platforms for lifecycle information management, standardization of digital twin data protocols, and theoretical frameworks for digital twin modeling. Furthermore, this study systematically expounds future research priorities across four dimensions: intelligent sensing and interoperability technologies for geotechnical engineering; knowledge graph development and model-based systems engineering; integrated digital twin entity technologies combining 3D geological bodies with engineering structures; and precision enhancement, temporal extension, and spatial expansion of geotechnical digital twins. This paper systematically reviews the application status of digital twin technology in geotechnical engineering for the first time, reveals the common technical challenges in cross-domain implementation, and proposes a theoretical framework for digital twin accuracy improvement and spatiotemporal expansion for geotechnical engineering characteristics, which fills the knowledge gap in the adaptability of existing research in professional fields. These insights aim to provide references for advancing digitalization, intelligent transformation, and sustainable development of geotechnical engineering. Full article

Access to clean water is a pressing global concern and membrane technologies play a vital role in addressing this challenge. Thin-film composite membranes prepared via interfacial polymerization (IPol) using meta-phenylenediamine (MPD) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) exhibit excellent separation performance, but face limitations such as fouling and low hydrophilicity. This study investigated the interaction between MPD and sulfonated zinc phthalocyanine, Zn(SO2)4Pc, as a potential strategy for enhancing membrane properties. Using Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Time-Dependent DFT (TD-DFT), we analyzed the optimized geometries, electronic structures, UV–Vis absorption spectra, FT-IR vibrational spectra, and molecular electrostatic potentials of MPD, Zn(SO2)4Pc, and their complexes. The results show that MPD/Zn(SO2)4Pc exhibits reduced HOMO-LUMO energy gaps and enhanced charge delocalization, particularly in aqueous environments, indicating improved stability and reactivity. Spectroscopic features confirmed strong interactions via hydrogen bonding and π–π stacking, suggesting that Zn(SO2)4Pc can act as a co-monomer or additive during IPol to improve polyamide membrane functionality. A conformational analysis of MPD/Zn(SO2)4Pc was conducted using density functional theory (DFT) to evaluate the impact of dihedral rotation on molecular stability. The 120° conformation was identified as the most stable, due to favorable π–π interactions and intramolecular hydrogen bonding. These findings offer computational evidence for the design of high-performance membranes with enhanced antifouling, selectivity, and structural integrity for sustainable water treatment applications. The transition to clean energy is not inherently positive or negative, and its impacts depend on the social context, power relations, and mechanisms to include marginalized voices. India, with its ambitious climate targets and commitment to the UN SDG Agenda, is a key country for ensuring an inclusive and sustainable transition. This paper aims to understand whether India’s commitment to the SDG Agenda’s overarching principle of ‘leaving no one behind’ is reflected in the design of its domestic solar policies. It analyzes how energy justice concerns are addressed in state-level solar policies. To that end, a pragmatic framework was developed to identify key justice dimensions and indicators, linked to the SDG targets, that are essential for an inclusive transition. This research conducted a qualitative interpretive content analysis of 29 solar energy policies, using the three identified framework dimensions—income growth, enhancing inclusion, and equal opportunities. We found that the themes around energy access, employment, and skill development are reflected in policies, while those around the inclusion of the poor, women, and community remain limited. The findings indicate that the policies have focused on low-impact justice concerns, lacking structural transformation. To address these gaps, the study proposes targeted subsidies, community ownership, and gender-inclusive mechanisms. The framework offers a pragmatic tool for the evaluation of clean energy policies in the Global South, and the empirical results provide insights for the synergistic implementation of the climate and sustainable development agenda. Interpreting diagnostic imaging and identifying clinically relevant features remain challenging tasks, particularly for novice radiologists who often lack structured guidance and expert feedback. To bridge this gap, we propose an Eye-Gaze Guided Multimodal Fusion framework that leverages expert eye-tracking data to enhance learning and decision-making in medical image interpretation. By integrating chest X-ray (CXR) images with expert fixation maps, our approach captures radiologists’ visual attention patterns and highlights regions of interest (ROIs) critical for accurate diagnosis. The fusion model utilizes a shared backbone architecture to jointly process image and gaze modalities, thereby minimizing the impact of noise in fixation data. We validate the system’s interpretability using Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) and assess both classification performance and explanation alignment with expert annotations. Comprehensive evaluations, including robustness under gaze noise and expert clinical review, demonstrate the framework’s effectiveness in improving model reliability and interpretability. This work offers a promising pathway toward intelligent, human-centered AI systems that support both diagnostic accuracy and medical training. Full article

Background: Anabolic–androgenic steroids (AASs) are commonly used for performance enhancement but have been linked to significant neurobiological consequences. This review explores the impact of AASs on neurochemical pathways, cognitive function, and psychiatric disorders, highlighting their potential neurotoxicity. Methods: A narrative review of current literature was conducted to examine AASs-induced alterations in neurotransmitter systems, structural and functional brain changes, and associated psychiatric conditions. The interplay between AASs use and other substances was also considered. Results: Chronic AASs exposure affects serotonin and dopamine systems, contributing to mood disorders, aggression, and cognitive deficits. Structural and functional changes in the prefrontal cortex and limbic regions suggest long-term neurotoxicity. AASs use is associated with increased risks of depression, anxiety, and psychosis, potentially driven by hormonal dysregulation and neuroinflammation. Co-occurring substance use exacerbates neurocognitive impairments and behavioral disturbances. Discussion: While evidence supports the link between AASs use and neurotoxicity, gaps remain in understanding the precise mechanisms and long-term effects. Identifying biomarkers of brain damage and developing targeted interventions are crucial for mitigating risks. Increased awareness among medical professionals and policymakers is essential to address AASs-related neuropsychiatric consequences. Conclusions: AASs abuse poses significant risks to brain health, necessitating further research and prevention efforts. Evidence-based strategies are needed to educate the public, enhance early detection, and develop effective interventions to reduce the neuropsychiatric burden of AASs use. Full article

This paper presents a study on open energy data in Spain and its contribution to sustainability, analyzing its content and its reuse potential. Since energy plays an important role in the sustainability and economic development of a country or region, energy strategies must be managed through public policies that promote the development of this sector. In this sense, open data is relevant for decision-making in the energy sector, especially in areas such as energy consumption and renewable energy policies. Our research aims to analyze the work of Spain’s autonomous communities in the field of energy information by conducting a population analysis of all datasets tagged in the energy category. After compiling the information and eliminating irrelevant datasets (those that are mislabeled, obsolete, or have a scope less than the level of the autonomous community), it can be seen that the supply is very scarce and that this category is one of the least populated among all existing categories. The typological analysis indicates that information on consumption is the one offering the most datasets, followed, at a short distance, by heterogeneous and difficult-to-classify information and by the set related to energy certificates or audits (the most recurrent, as it is offered only once by the autonomous communities). One of the main findings of the research is the heterogeneity of the initiatives and the significant differences in scores on an indicator created for this purpose. The ranking has taken into account both the existence of information and the quality of reuse, with Catalonia, the Basque Country, and Cantabria being the leaders (with Castilla y León, the performance reaches 60%, so the three remaining communities do not reach 40%). The research concludes with recommendations based on the gaps detected: more data should be published that can drive economic development and environmental sustainability, reduce heterogeneity, and facilitate the use of these data for greater applicability, which will increase the chances that open energy data can contribute more to sustainability. Influence of Fe Ions on the Surface, Microstructural and Optical Properties of Solution Precursor Plasma-Sprayed TiO2 Coatings

This work investigates on how Fe incorporation influences the surface, microstructural, and optical properties of solution precursor plasma-sprayed TiO2 coatings. The Fe-TiO2 coatings were prepared using titanium isopropoxide and iron acetylacetonate as precursors, with ethanol as the solvent. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the existence of both anatase and rutile TiO2 phases, with a predominant rutile phase, also confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. There was an increase in the anatase crystals upon the addition of Fe ions. A longer spray distance further enhanced the anatase content and reduced the average TiO2 crystallite sizes present in the Fe-added coatings. SEM cross-sectional images displayed finely grained, densely packed deposits in the Fe-added coatings. UV-Vis spectroscopy showed visible-light absorption by the Fe-TiO2 coatings, with reduced band gap energies ranging from 2.846 ± 0.002 eV to 2.936 ± 0.003 eV. Photoluminescence analysis showed reduced emission intensity at 356 nm (3.48 eV) for the Fe-TiO2 coatings. These findings confirm solution precursor plasma spray to be an effective method for developing Fe-TiO2 coatings with potential application as visible-light-active photocatalysts. Full article

The objective of this research was to conduct a comprehensive review of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) culture in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), identify knowledge gaps, and propose strategies oriented towards intelligent and sustainable aquaculture. A systematic review and bibliometric analysis of 387 articles published between 1941 and 2025 in the Scopus database was carried out. Since 2011, there has been a sustained growth in scientific production, with the United States, Denmark, Finland, and Germany standing out as the main contributors. The journals with the highest number of publications were Aquacultural Engineering, Aquaculture, and Aquaculture Research. The conceptual analysis revealed the following three thematic clusters: experimental studies on physiology and metabolism; research focused on nutrition, growth, and yield; and technological developments for water treatment in RAS. This evolution reflects a transition from basic approaches to applied technologies oriented towards sustainability. There was also evidence of a thematic transition toward molecular tools such as proteomics, transcriptomics, and real-time PCR. However, there is still limited integration of smart technologies such as the IoT. It is recommended to incorporate self-calibrating multi-parametric sensors, machine learning models, and autonomous systems for environmental regulation in real time. Full article

Background/Objectives: Astaxanthin, a xanthophyll carotenoid, has garnered significant interest due to its benefits with regard to dyslipidemia. This multifaceted functional food ingredient modulates several key enzymes associated with lipid regulation, including HMG-CoA reductase, CPT1, ACCβ, and acyl-CoA oxidase. It influences key antioxidant molecular pathways like the Nrf2, limiting dyslipidemia occurrence and regulating liver cholesterol uptake through the modulation of liver lipid receptors. Due to the current lack of systematic reviews and meta-analyses assessing moderate to high dosages (6–24 mg/d) of astaxanthin supplementation on lipid dysregulation, the present manuscript aims to fill this gap in the literature. Methods: Following the PRISMA guidelines, we included eight studies comprising eleven results from the PubMed, Springer Link, Science Direct, Cochrane, and Google Scholar databases. The Jamovi (Version 2.6.26, Solid) software was utilized for statistics. Our primary objective was to assess in detail the effects of astaxanthin on LDL-C, HDL-C, triglyceride, and total cholesterol levels. Results: The meta-analysis concludes positive effects of astaxanthin (6–20 mg/d) on HDL-C (0.4200; 95% CI: 0.1081 to 0.7319) and triglyceride (−0.3058; 95% CI: −0.5138 to −0.0978) levels. Unfortunately, astaxanthin (6–20 mg/d) does not appear to significantly influence LDL-C (−0.0725; 95% CI: −0.3070 to 0.1620) and total cholesterol (−0.0448; 95% CI: −0.3369 to 0.2473) levels. Regarding HDL-C, improvements were observed from 55 ± 8 mg/dL (pre-intervention) to 63 ± 8 mg/dL (post-intervention) (p < 0.01) in the 12 mg/d of astaxanthin groups. In the assessment of triglyceride levels, results show a decrease from 151 ± 26 mg/dL (pre-intervention) to 112 ± 40 mg/dL (post-intervention) (p < 0.01) for 18 mg/d astaxanthin supplementation. Conclusions: Further research is necessary to fully harness the potential of astaxanthin, which includes assessing astaxanthin in different subsets of patients, using a GWAS, and in combination with other nutraceuticals to understand the compound’s effectiveness with regard to varying health conditions, genetic and epigenetic factors, and synergistic effects with other compounds. Literature Review and Policy Recommendations for Single-Dose HPV Vaccination Schedule in China: Opportunities and Challenges

Cervical cancer remains a significant global public health challenge, with human papillomavirus (HPV) as its primary cause. In response, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched a global strategy to eliminate cervical cancer by 2030 and, in its 2022 position paper, recommended a single-dose vaccination schedule. The objective of this review is to critically examine the current HPV vaccination landscape in China, including vaccination policies, immunization schedules, supply–demand dynamics, and the feasibility of transitioning to a single-dose regimen. By synthesizing recent developments in HPV virology, epidemiology, vaccine types, and immunization strategies, we identify both opportunities and barriers unique to the Chinese context. Results indicate that China primarily adheres to a three-dose vaccination schedule, with an optional two-dose schedule for girls aged 9–14, leaving a notable gap compared to the most recent WHO recommendation. The high prevalence of HPV types 52 and 58 contributes to a distinct regional infection pattern, underscoring the specific need for nine-valent vaccines tailored to China’s epidemiological profile. Despite the growing demand, vaccine supply remains inadequate, with an estimated annual shortfall of more than 15 million doses. This issue is further complicated by strong public preference for the nine-valent vaccine and the relatively high cost of vaccination. Emerging evidence supports the comparable efficacy and durable protection of a single-dose schedule, which could substantially reduce financial and logistical burdens while expanding coverage. This review advocates for the adoption of a simplified single-dose regimen, supported by catch-up strategies for older cohorts and the integration of HPV vaccination into China’s National Immunization Program (NIP). Sustained investment in domestic vaccine development and centralized procurement of imported vaccines may also possibly alleviate supply shortage. These coordinated efforts are critical for strengthening HPV-related disease prevention and accelerating China’s progress toward the WHO’s cervical cancer elimination targets. Full article
