This work was conducted within the framework of French university reforms undertaken since 2022. Regardless of learning level and target audience, project-based learning has proved its effectiveness as a teaching strategy for many years. The novelty of the present contribution lies in the gamification of this learning method. A popular game, Trivial Pursuit, was adapted to enable students to acquire knowledge in a playful manner while preparing for upcoming technical challenges. Various technical subjects were chosen to create new cards for the game. A total of 180 questions and their answers were created. The colored tokens were then used to trace manufactured products. This teaching experiment was conducted as part of a project-based learning program with third-year Bachelor students (Electrical Engineering and Industrial Computing Department). The game components associated with the challenge proposed to the students comprised six key elements: objectives, challenges, mechanics, components, rules, and environment. Within the framework of the Industry 4.0 concept, this pedagogical activity focused on the knowledge, understanding, development, and application of an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system demonstrating the capabilities of this technology. This contribution outlines the various stages of the work assigned to the students. An industrial partner was also involved in this work. Full article

The application of artificial intelligence has significantly advanced interactive storytelling. However, current research has predominantly concentrated on the content generation capabilities of AI, primarily following a one-way ‘input-direct generation’ model. This has led to limited practicality in AI story writing, mainly due to the absence of investigations into user-driven creative processes. Consequently, users often perceive AI-generated suggestions as unhelpful and unsatisfactory. This study introduces a novel creative tool named Story Forge, which incorporates a card-based interactive narrative approach. By utilizing interactive story element cards, the tool facilitates the integration of narrative components with artificial intelligence-generated content to establish an interactive story writing framework. To evaluate the efficacy of Story Forge, two tests were conducted with a focus on user engagement, decision-making, narrative outcomes, the replay value of meta-narratives, and their impact on the users’ emotions and self-reflection. In the comparative assessment, the participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group, in which they would use either a web-based AI story tool or Story Forge for story creation. Statistical analyses, including independent-sample t-tests, p-values, and effect size calculation (Cohen’s d), were employed to validate the effectiveness of the framework design. The findings suggest that Story Forge enhances users’ intuitive creativity, real-time story development, and emotional expression while empowering their creative autonomy. Full article

Background and Objectives: Patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) present similar symptoms as other diseases, such as dementia (AD). However, while dementia is not reversible, INPH dementia can be treated through neurosurgery. This study aims to assess the Rorschach method as a valid tool to identify INPH patients. Materials and Methods: The perception characteristics of a small sample of patients (n = 19) were observed through the Rorschach Inblok test. Artificial neural network (ANN) models allowed us to analyze the correlations between patients’ cognitive functions and perception characteristics. Results: The results obtained revealed significant insights about the independent traits in patients’ patterns of response with INPH and AD. In performing the test, patients with INPH and AD concentrated more on the cards displayed and what they perceived, while other patients concentrated on reactions related to the image proposed. Conclusions: The Rorschach test is a valid predictor tool to identify INPH patients who could successfully be treated with neurosurgery. Hence, this methodology has potential in differential diagnosis applied to a clinical context. Full article

Activity space offers a valuable perspective for analyzing urban travel behavior and evaluating the performance of transportation systems in increasingly complex urban environments. However, the research on measuring activity spaces in multimodal transportation contexts remains limited. This study investigates multimodal transportation activity spaces in Hangzhou using 2023 smart card data. Multimodal travel chains are extracted, and residents’ activity spaces are quantified using 95% confidence ellipses. By applying the XGBoost and GeoShapley models, this study reveals the nonlinear effects and geospatial heterogeneity in how built environment and socioeconomic factors influence activity spaces. The key findings show that the distance to the nearest metro station, commercial POIs, and GDP significantly shape activity spaces through nonlinear relationships. Moreover, the interaction between the distance to the nearest metro station and geographical location generates pronounced geospatial effects. The results highlight the importance of multimodal integration in urban transport planning and provide empirical insights for enhancing system efficiency and sustainability. Full article

Background: Previous studies have shown Radix Hedysari (RH)’s gastroprotective potential, but its active components and mechanisms remain uncharacterized. This study aimed to identify RH’s bioactive fractions, elucidate protection mechanisms, establish flavonoid dose-effect relationships, and determine the pharmacodynamic basis. Methods: Chemical profiling quantified eight flavonoids via HPLC. Network pharmacology screened targets/pathways using TCMSP, GeneCards databases. In vivo validation employed cisplatin–induced injury models in Wistar rats (n = 10/group). Assessments included: behavioral monitoring; organ indices; ELISA (MTL, VIP, IFN–γ, IgG, IL–6, TNF–α etc.); H&E; and Western blot:(SCF, c–Kit, p65). Dose–effect correlations were analyzed by PLS–DA. Results: Content determination indicated that Calycosin–7–glucoside and Ononin were notably enriched on both the n–BuOH part and the EtOAc part. Network pharmacology identified 5 core flavonoids and 8 targets enriched in IL–17/TNF signaling pathways. n–BuOH treatment minimized weight loss vs. MCG, increased spleen/thymus indices. n–BuOH and HPS normalized gastrointestinal, immune, inflammatory biomarkers (p < 0.01 vs. MCG). Histopathology confirmed superior mucosal protection in n–BuOH group vs. MCG. Western blot revealed n–BuOH significantly downregulated SCF, c–kit, and p65 expressions in both gastric and intestinal tissues (p < 0.001 vs. MCG). PLS–DA demonstrated Calycosin–7–glucoside had the strongest dose–effect correlation (VIP > 1) with protective outcomes. Conclusions: The n–BuOH fraction of RH is the primary bioactive component against chemotherapy–induced gastrointestinal injury, with Calycosin–7–glucoside as its key effector. Protection is mediated through SCF/c–Kit/NF–κB pathway inhibition, demonstrating significant dose–dependent efficacy. These findings support RH’s potential as a complementary therapy during chemotherapy. Full article

This study examines how U.S. immigration policies enact legal violence and multigenerational punishment through the spousal reunification process, particularly in mixed-status, transnational families. Building on the concept of “deportability,” we introduce “importability” to describe a beneficiary’s potential to secure permanent residency, which varies according to social markers such as race, gender, and region of origin. Drawing from a content analysis of threads on the Immigration Pathways (IP) web forum, we analyze discussions among U.S. citizen petitioners navigating marriage-based green card applications, with a focus on experiences involving administrative processing (AP) (i.e., marriage fraud investigations). Our findings show that couples who do not align with the state’s conception of “proper” family—particularly U.S. citizen women petitioning for Black African partners—face intensified scrutiny, long delays, and burdensome requirements, including DNA tests and surveillance. These bureaucratic obstacles produce prolonged family separation, financial strain, and diminished sense of belonging, especially for children in single-parent households. Through the lens of “importability,” we reveal how legal violence and multigenerational punishment of immigration policies on mixed-status families beyond deportation threats, functioning as a gatekeeping mechanism that disproportionately affects marginalized families. This research highlights the understudied consequences of immigration policies on citizen petitioners and contributes to a broader understanding of inequality in U.S. immigration enforcement. Virtual reality interaction design and story co-creation design for multiple users is an interdisciplinary research field that merges human–computer interaction, creative design, and virtual reality technologies. Story co-creation design enables multiple users to collectively generate and share narratives, allowing them to contribute to the storyline, modify plot trajectories, and craft characters, thereby facilitating a dynamic storytelling experience. Through advanced virtual reality interaction design, collaboration and social engagement can be further enriched to encourage active participation. This study investigates the facilitation of narrative creation and enhancement of storytelling skills in virtual reality by leveraging existing research on story co-creation design and virtual reality technology. Subsequently, we developed and evaluated the virtual reality card-based collaborative storytelling platform Co-Relay. By analyzing interaction data and user feedback obtained from user testing and experimental trials, we observed substantial enhancements in user engagement, immersion, creativity, and fulfillment of emotional and social needs compared to a conventional web-based storytelling platform. The primary contribution of this study lies in demonstrating how the incorporation of story co-creation can elevate storytelling proficiency, plot development, and social interaction within the virtual reality environment. Our novel methodology offers a fresh outlook on the design of collaborative narrative creation in virtual reality, particularly by integrating participatory multi-user storytelling platforms that blur the traditional boundaries between creators and audiences, as well as between fiction and reality. Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata (PMRP), a processed root of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. (known as Zhiheshouwu in Chinese medicine), exhibits anti-aging properties and is used to improve ovarian aging. However, its therapeutic mechanism against premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) remains unclear. This study investigates whether PMRP alleviates POI by inhibiting PANoptosis—a cell death pathway characterized by the concurrent occurrence and interplay of pyroptosis, apoptosis, and necroptosis. POI was induced in rats using tripterygium glycosides. We evaluated the estrous cycle, serum hormone levels (follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH], estrogen [E2], anti-Müllerian hormone [AMH]), follicular development, and the ultrastructure of granulosa cells. PANoptosome assembly (apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD [ASC]/caspase-8/receptor-interacting protein kinase 3 [RIPK3] co-localization) and key effectors of PANoptosis (caspase 3, cleaved caspase 3, gasdermin D [GSDMD], cleaved GSDMD, GSDME, RIPK1, mixed-lineage kinase domain-like protein [MLKL], and p-MLKL) were analyzed. PMRP restored the estrous cycle, lowered FSH levels, and increased E2 and AMH levels in POI rats. It reduced follicular atresia, preserved primordial follicles, and suppressed PANoptosis-like death in granulosa cells. Mechanistically, PMRP disrupted PANoptosome assembly and downregulated key effectors of PANoptosis. PMRP alleviates POI by inhibiting PANoptosis in granulosa cells, overcoming the previous limitations of targeting single death pathways and providing novel insights into the pathogenesis and treatment strategies for POI. Non-remitting neutropenia in children and chronic idiopathic neutropenia (CIN) in adults have been described previously as peculiar subgroups of neutropenic patients carrying similar clinical and immunological features. The present collection comprising 25 subjects (16 adults and 9 children) mostly affected with mild (84%) and moderate (16%) neutropenia aimed to identify the underlying (possibly common) genetic background. The phenotype of these patients resemble the one described previously: no severe infections, presence of rheumathological signs, leukopenia in almost all patients and lymphocytopenia in one-third of the cohort. The pediatric patients did not share common genes with the adults, based on the results of the multisample test, while some singular variants in neutropenia potentially associated with immune dysregulation likely consistent with the phenotype were found. SPINK5, RELA and CARD11 were retrieved and seem to be consistent with the clinical picture characterized by neutropenia associated to immune dysregulation. The enrichment and burden tests performed in comparison with a control group underline that the products of expression by the variants involved belong to the autoimmunity and immune regulation pathways (i.e., SPINK5, PTPN22 and PSMB9). Even with the limitation of this study’s low number of patients, these results may suggest that non-remitting neutropenia and CIN in adults deserve deep genetic study and enlarged consideration in comparison with classical neutropenia. The Blockchain-based Decentralized Identity Management System (BDIMS) is an innovative framework designed for digital identity management, utilizing the unique attributes of blockchain technology. The BDIMS categorizes entities into three distinct groups: identity providers, service providers, and end-users. The system’s efficiency in identifying and extracting information from identification cards is enhanced by the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms. These algorithms decompose the extracted fields into smaller units, facilitating optical character recognition (OCR) and user authentication processes. By employing Merkle Trees, the BDIMS ensures secure authentication with service providers without the need to disclose any personal information. This advanced system empowers users to maintain control over their private information, ensuring its protection with maximum effectiveness and security. Experimental results confirm that the BDIMS effectively mitigates identity fraud while maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive data. Full article

The multi-factor authentication (MFA) protocol requires users to provide a combination of a password, a smart card and biometric data as verification factors to gain access to the services they need. In a single-server MFA system, users accessing multiple distinct servers must register separately for each server, manage multiple smart cards, and remember numerous passwords. In contrast, an MFA system designed for multi-server architecture allows users to register once at a registration center (RC) and then access all associated servers with a single smart card and one password. MFA with an offline RC addresses the computational bottleneck and single-point failure issues associated with the RC. In this paper, we propose a post-quantum secure MFA protocol for a multi-server architecture with an offline RC. Our MFA protocol utilizes the post-quantum secure Kyber key encapsulation mechanism and an information-theoretically secure fuzzy extractor as its building blocks. We formally prove the post-quantum semantic security of our MFA protocol under the real or random (ROR) model in the random oracle paradigm. Compared to related protocols, our protocol achieves higher efficiency and maintains reasonable communication overhead. Full article

Globally, forest leisure and recreation (FLR) activities are widely recognized not only for their environmental and social benefits but also for their economic contributions. To better understand these economic contributions, it is vital to examine how the regional economic levels of customers vary when consuming FLR. This study aimed to empirically examine whether the regional economic level of residents (i.e., gross regional domestic product; GRDP) is classifiable using FLR expenditure data, and to interpret which variables contribute to its classification. We acquired anonymized credit card transaction data on residents of two regions with different GRDP levels. The data were preprocessed by identifying FLR-related industries and extracting key spending features for classification analysis. Five classification models (e.g., deep neural network (DNN), random forest, extreme gradient boosting, support vector machine, and logistic regression) were applied. Among the models, the DNN model presented the best performance (overall accuracy = 0.73; area under the curve (AUC) = 0.82). SHAP analysis showed that the “FLR industry” variable was most influential in differentiating GRDP levels across all the models. These findings demonstrate that FLR consumption patterns may vary and are interpretable by economic levels, providing an empirical framework for designing regional economic policies. Full article

Background: Epigenomic instability accelerates mutations in tumor suppressor genes and oncogenes, contributing to malignant transformation. Histone modifications, particularly methylation and acetylation, significantly influence tumor biology, with chromo-, bromo-, and Tudor domain-containing proteins mediating these changes. This study investigates how genes encoding these domain-containing proteins affect colorectal cancer (CRC) prognosis. Methods: Using CRC data from the GSE39582 and TCGA datasets, we identified domain-related genes via GeneCards and developed a prognostic signature using LASSO-COX regression. Patients were classified into high- and low-risk groups, and comparisons were made across survival, clinical features, immune cell infiltration, immunotherapy responses, and drug sensitivity predictions. Single-cell analysis assessed gene expression in different cell subsets. Results: Four domain-related genes (AKAP1, ORC1, CHAF1A, and UHRF2) were identified as a prognostic signature. Validation confirmed their prognostic value, with significant differences in survival, clinical features, immune patterns, and immunotherapy responses between the high- and low-risk groups. Drug sensitivity analysis revealed top candidates for CRC treatment. Single-cell analysis showed varied expression of these genes across cell subsets. Conclusions: This study presents a novel prognostic signature based on domain-related genes that can predict CRC severity and offer insights into immune dynamics, providing a promising tool for personalized risk assessment in CRC. Intercropping Enhances Arthropod Diversity and Ecological Balance in Cowpea, Hemp, and Watermelon Systems

This study investigates arthropod assemblage in cowpea, hemp, and watermelon grown both as monocrops and intercrops using three sampling techniques: direct visual counts, sticky cards, and pan traps. A total of 31,774 arthropods were collected, spanning two classes [Arachnida (0.07%) and Insecta (99.93%)], 11 orders, and 82 families representing diverse functional groups. Arachnids were represented by a single family (Araneae). Among insects, the composition included Diptera (36.81%), Thysanoptera (24.64%), Hemiptera (19.43%), Hymenoptera (11.58%), Coleoptera (6.84%), Lepidoptera (0.076%) and Blattodea, Odonata, Orthoptera, Psocodea (≤0.005%). Roughly 10% of the total arthropods were pollinators, while the remainder were primarily herbivores and predators. Apidae were abundant in all treatments except for watermelon monocrops. Intercropping supported more pollinators, particularly Apidae, Halictidae, and Sarcophagidae. However, herbivores dominated (>50%) in each system, largely due to high presence of thrips and cicadellids. Predators accounted for approximately 30%, with dolichopodids (Diptera) being the most dominant. Watermelon yield increased by 30–60% in the intercrop systems. While intercropping increases overall arthropod abundance, it also creates a more balanced community where beneficial organisms are not heavily outnumbered by pests and contributes to enhanced ecological resilience and crop performance. Exophiala dermatitidis is an emerging black yeast recognized in both superficial and life-threatening infections, including those in immunocompetent hosts. This narrative review focuses on recent developments (mostly between 2019 and 2025) in two major areas. First, we examined the clinical and epidemiological background of E. dermatitidis, with particular focus on its involvement in cystic fibrosis and CARD9 deficiency, as well as central nervous system, ocular, and systemic infections. Second, we address the molecular basis of its pathogenicity, with particular attention to melanin production, capsule formation, and metabolic adaptation. We also discuss diagnostic challenges and antifungal susceptibility, highlighting gaps between laboratory studies and clinical outcomes. Full article
