In the digital age, online teacher professional development (TPD) has become a key strategy for enhancing instructional quality and ensuring equitable access to continuous learning. This research compares and analyzes Chinese online teacher professional development (TPD) with the United States over a period of ten years, from 2014 to 2024. This study uses a mixed-methods approach based on policy documents, structured surveys, and interviews to investigate how governance regimes influence TPD outcomes for fair education. Both countries experienced a massive expansion of web-based TPD access and engagement, with participation rates over 75% and effectiveness scores over 4.3 by 2024. China focused on fast scaling by way of centralized mandates and investments in infrastructure, while the United States emphasized gradual expansion through decentralized, locally appropriate models. Most indicators had converged by the end of the period, even with these different approaches. Yet, qualitative evidence reveals persisting gaps in functional access and contextual appropriateness, especially in rural settings. Equality frameworks with attention to teacher agency, policy implementation, and digital usability must supplant weak access metrics. A hybrid paradigm presents itself as an attractive means toward building equitable and productive digital TPD environments through the symbiotic integration of China’s successful scalability and the United States’ professional autonomy. Spawning diversity plays an essential role in fish survival and reproduction, which contributes to the exceptional diversity of teleosts among vertebrates. Different zona radiata structures reflect the adaptability of fish to the environment of spawning and early embryonic development. The morphological and transcriptional characteristics of fish follicle development between different spawning habits, particularly the zona radiata variations, have been poorly documented. In this study, we integrated histology and transcriptomics to investigate the differences in the zona radiata structure and gene expression profiles among follicles from different spawning habits of Culter alburnus. Our results revealed that stage Ⅲ was the crucial period for zona radiata thickening and structure differentiation. Transcriptomic analyses of adhesive and semi-buoyant eggs at stage Ⅲ revealed a significant upregulation of genes involved in glycoprotein synthesis, extracellular matrix formation, and regulation of protease activity in adhesive eggs, such as the wfdc and a2ml gene family. This upregulation likely underpins the thicker zona radiata in adhesive eggs, facilitating their attachment to substrates. This study represents the first elucidation of the ultrastructure of the zona radiata and gene expression patterns in different developmental stages of adhesive and semi-buoyant eggs of Culter alburnus, offering new perspectives for aquaculture research in understanding fish reproductive adaptations. Rootstocks are widely used in viticulture as an agronomic measure to cope with biotic and abiotic stresses. In winegrapes, the aroma is one of the major factors defining the quality of grape berries and wines. In the present work, the grape aroma and wine aroma of Cabernet Sauvignon (CS) grafted on three rootstocks were investigated to inform the selection of rootstocks to utilize. 1103P, 5A, and SO4 altered the composition of aromatic volatiles in CS grapes and wines. Among them, 5A and SO4 had less effect on green leaf volatiles in the berries and wines, while 1103P increased green leaf volatile concentrations, up-regulating VvADH2 expression in both vintages. VvLOXA, VvLOXC, VvHPL1, VvADH1, VvADH2, and VvAAT were co-regulated by vintage and rootstock. Orthogonal partial least squares regression analysis (OPLS-DA) showed that the differential compounds in CS/1103P and CS berries were dominated by green leaf volatiles. Furthermore, the concentrations of 1-hexanol in the CS/1103P wines were significantly higher than in the other treatments in the two vintages. 1103P altered the expression of genes in the LOX-HPL pathway and increased the concentration of grape green leaf volatiles such as 1-hexanol and 1-hexanal, while vine vigor also affected green leaf volatile concentrations, the combination of which altered the aromatic composition of the wine and gave it more green flavors. Precise Re-Os isotopic ages of the Jinduicheng and Donggou Mo deposits in the East Qinling orogenic belt can shed light on the controversies about multiple-stage pulses of mineralization and further elucidate the genesis and metallogenic process of the deposits. In this study, we propose two major events of Mo mineralization in this orogenic belt occurring during the Late Mesozoic: the early stage of 156–130 Ma and late stage of 122–114 Ma. Results of molybdenite Re-Os isotopic analysis reveal that the Jinduicheng deposit formed at 139.2 ± 2.9 Ma, while the Donggou deposit exhibited two-stage mineralization at 115.4 ± 1.6 Ma and 111.9 ± 1.3 Ma. These isotopic ages align with the spatiotemporal evolution of coeval ore-barren granites exposed in eastern Qinling, pointing to a close genetic relationship between the magmatism and mineralization that was controlled by the same tectonic activity, likely in a post-collisional setting. This highlights the multiple-stage Mo mineralization and provides evidence for further understanding the geodynamics and metallogenic process in the eastern Qinling orogenic belt. Full article

In order to fulfill the commitment to the “dual carbon goal” at an early date, China has implemented a series of carbon control policies. However, the actual impact of these policy combinations on green innovation in Chinese cities remains unknown. Taking the implementation of the low-carbon pilot policy (LCP) and the carbon emission trading pilot policy (CET) as the research opportunity, this paper uses panel data from 276 prefecture-level cities and a multiple-period difference-in-differences (DID) model to explore the impact of carbon control policy combination on green innovation in China and their mechanisms. The results indicate the following: A single LCP or CET can significantly boost green innovation. However, the impact of cross-tool carbon control policy combination on green innovation is notably greater than that of a single policy, with a trend of increasing effectiveness over time. Even after a series of robustness tests, this conclusion remains valid. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the promotion effect is more significant in the eastern region and high-level administrative cities. The policy combination incentivizes green innovation through fiscal technology expenditure and public environmental awareness, focusing more on fostering strategic green innovation. Consequently, the Chinese government should tailor policy combinations to specific contexts, expand their implementation judiciously, and consistently drive forward green innovation. Full article

The accurate detection of surface defects in bamboo is critical to maintaining product quality. Traditional inspection methods rely heavily on manual labor, making the manufacturing process labor-intensive and error-prone. To overcome these limitations, TEB-YOLO is introduced in this paper, a lightweight and efficient defect detection model based on YOLOv5s. Firstly, EfficientViT replaces the original YOLOv5s backbone, reducing the computational cost while improving feature extraction. Secondly, BiFPN is adopted in place of PANet to enhance multi-scale feature fusion and preserve detailed information. Thirdly, an Efficient Local Attention (ELA) mechanism is embedded in the backbone to strengthen local feature representation. Lastly, the original CIoU loss is replaced with EIoU loss to enhance localization precision. The proposed model achieves a precision of 91.7% with only 10.5 million parameters, marking a 5.4% accuracy improvement and a 22.9% reduction in parameters compared to YOLOv5s. Compared with other mainstream models including YOLOv5n, YOLOv7, YOLOv8n, YOLOv9t, and YOLOv9s, TEB-YOLO achieves precision improvements of 11.8%, 1.66%, 2.0%, 2.8%, and 1.1%, respectively. The experiment results show that TEB-YOLO significantly improves detection precision and model lightweighting, offering a practical and effective solution for real-time bamboo surface defect detection. Circulating fluidized bed fly ash (CFBFA) stockpiles release alkaline dust, high-pH leachate, and secondary CO2/SO2—an environmental burden that exceeds 240 Mt yr−1 in China alone. Yet, barely 25% is recycled, because the high f-CaO/SO3 contents destabilize conventional cementitious products. Here, we presents a pressurized flue gas heat curing (FHC) route to bridge this scientific deficit, converting up to 85 wt% CFBFA into structural lightweight gravel. The gypsum dosage was optimized, and a 1:16 (gypsum/CFBFA) ratio delivered the best compromise between early ettringite nucleation and CO2-uptake capacity, yielding the highest overall quality. The optimal mix reaches 9.13 MPa 28-day crushing strength, 4.27% in situ CO2 uptake, 1.75 g cm−3 bulk density, and 3.59% water absorption. Multi-technique analyses (SEM, XRD, FTIR, TG-DTG, and MIP) show that FHC rapidly consumes expansive phases, suppresses undesirable granular-ettringite formation, and produces a dense calcite/needle-AFt skeleton. The FHC-treated CFBFA composite gravel demonstrates 30.43% higher crushing strength than JTG/TF20-2015 standards, accompanied by a water absorption rate 28.2% lower than recent studies. Its superior strength and durability highlight its potential as a low-carbon lightweight aggregate for structural engineering. A life-cycle inventory gives a cradle-to-gate energy demand of 1128 MJ t−1 and a process GWP of 226 kg CO2-eq t−1. Consequently, higher point-source emissions paired with immediate mineral sequestration translate into a low overall climate footprint and eliminate the need for CFBFA landfilling. Full article

Oxidative stress is a key mediator of physiological dysfunction in aquatic organisms under environmental challenges, yet its comprehensive impacts on gill physiology require further clarification. This study investigated the molecular and cellular responses of Eriocheir sinensis gills to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced oxidative stress, integrating antioxidant defense, ion transport regulation, and stress-induced cell apoptosis and autophagy. Morphological alterations in the gill filaments were observed, characterized by septum degeneration, accumulation of haemolymph cells, and pronounced swelling. For antioxidant enzymes like catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), activities were enhanced, while superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was reduced following 48 h of exposure. Overall, the total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) showed a significant increase. The elevated concentrations of malondialdehyde (MDA) and H2O2 indicated oxidative stress. Ion transport genes displayed distinct transcription patterns: Na+-K+-2Cl co-transporter-1 (NKCC1), Na+/H+ exchanger 3 (NHE3), aquaporin 7 (AQP7), and chloride channel protein 2 (CLC2) were significantly upregulated; the α-subunit of Na+/K+-ATPase (NKAα) and carbonic anhydrase (CA) displayed an initial increase followed by decline; whereas vacuolar-type ATPase (VATP) consistently decreased, suggesting compensatory mechanisms to maintain osmotic balance. Concurrently, H2O2 triggered apoptosis (Bcl2, Caspase-3/8) and autophagy (beclin-1, ATG7), likely mediated by MAPK and AMPK signaling pathways. These findings reveal a coordinated yet adaptive response of crab gills to oxidative stress, providing new insights into the mechanistic basis of environmental stress tolerance in crustaceans. Random Forests are powerful machine learning models widely applied in classification and regression tasks due to their robust predictive performance. Nevertheless, traditional Random Forests face computational challenges during tree construction, particularly in high-dimensional data or on resource-constrained devices. In this paper, a novel node-splitting algorithm, BayesSplit, is proposed to accelerate decision tree construction via a Bayesian-based impurity estimation framework. BayesSplit treats impurity reduction as a Bernoulli event with Beta-conjugate priors for each split point and incorporates two main strategies. First, Dynamic Posterior Parameter Refinement updates the Beta parameters based on observed impurity reductions in batch iterations. Second, Posterior-Derived Confidence Bounding establishes statistical confidence intervals, efficiently filtering out suboptimal splits. Theoretical analysis demonstrates that BayesSplit converges to optimal splits with high probability, while experimental results show up to a 95% reduction in training time compared to baselines and maintains or exceeds generalization performance. Compared to the state-of-the-art MABSplit, BayesSplit achieves similar accuracy on classification tasks and reduces regression training time by 20–70% with lower MSEs. Furthermore, BayesSplit enhances feature importance stability by up to 40%, making it particularly suitable for deployment in computationally constrained environments. Full article

The tip-of-the-tongue (TOT) phenomenon is characterized by a temporary inability to retrieve a word despite a strong sense of familiarity. While extensive research has linked phonological processing to TOT, the exact nature of this relationship remains debated. The “blocking hypothesis” suggests that the retrieval of target words is interfered with by phonological neighbors, whereas the “transmission deficit hypothesis” posits that TOT arises from insufficient phonological activation of the target words. This study revisited this issue by examining the relationship between the microstructural integrity of the phonological processing brain network and TOT, utilizing graph-theoretical analyses of neuroimaging data from the Cambridge Centre for Ageing and Neuroscience (Cam-CAN), which included diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) data from 576 participants aged 18–87. The results revealed that global efficiency and mean degree centrality of the phonological processing network positively predicted TOT rates. At the nodal level, the nodal efficiency of the bilateral posterior superior temporal gyrus and the clustering coefficient of the left premotor cortex positively predicted TOT rates, while the degree centrality of the left dorsal superior temporal gyrus (dSTG) and the clustering coefficient of the left posterior supramarginal gyrus (pSMG) negatively predicted TOT rates. Overall, these findings suggest that individuals with a more enriched network of phonological representations tend to experience more TOTs, supporting the blocking hypothesis. Additionally, this study highlights the roles of the left dSTG and pSMG in facilitating word retrieval, potentially reducing the occurrence of TOTs. Full article

Glycoside hydrolase family 1 (GH1) enzymes are essential for plant cell wall digestion and the detoxification of plant metabolites in insects, yet their evolutionary history in Lepidoptera remains unresolved. This study systematically identified GH1 genes across 61 Lepidopteran genomes and analyzed their evolutionary dynamics. In addition, the expression profiles of GH1 genes in the silkworm (Bombyx mori) across various developmental stages and tissues were related to their evolutionary histories. A total of 996 GH1 genes were annotated and classified into 11 groups, with each showing distinct species diversity. Gene duplication and loss analysis revealed frequent duplications and losses during Lepidoptera evolution; these duplications primarily originated through tandem and dispersed duplications and were located in syntenic regions. Transcriptomic analysis of the silkworm revealed that the groups and duplications of GH1 genes were correlated to their expression patterns, with high expression in the larval midgut and fat body. These findings suggest that GH1 gene duplications and losses and expression have played a significant role in Lepidopteran adaptation to diverse host plants. Overall, this study provides comprehensive insights into the evolutionary trajectories of GH1 genes, highlighting their potential contribution to insect–plant interactions in Lepidoptera. Odors from pet cats can negatively affect the quality of life of cat owners. The diverse bioactive compounds in plant extracts make them a promising candidate for effective odor reduction. This study evaluated twelve plant extracts for deodorizing efficacy via in vitro fermentation tests. Rosemary extract and licorice extract exhibited better deodorizing effects, with fractions of rosemary extract below 100 Da demonstrating the most effective deodorizing performance. Based on these findings, subsequent feeding trials were conducted using rosemary extract and its fractions below 100 Da. In the feeding trial, adult British Shorthair cats were divided into three groups (Control Check, RE, and RE100) and housed in a controlled-environment respiration chamber for 30 days. Measurements included odor emissions, fecal and blood physicochemical parameters, immune parameters, microbiota composition based on 16S rRNA sequencing, and metabolome analysis. The results of the feeding trial indicated that rosemary extract significantly reduced ammonia and hydrogen sulfide emissions (46.84%, 41.64%), while fractions below 100 Da of rosemary extract achieved even greater reductions (55.62%, 53.87%). Rosemary extract regulated the intestinal microbial community, significantly increasing the relative abundance of the intestinal probiotic Bifidobacterium (p < 0.05) and reducing the population of sulfate-reducing bacteria (p < 0.05). It also significantly reduced urease and uricase activities (p < 0.05) to reduce ammonia production and inhibited the degradation of sulfur-containing proteins and sulfate reduction to reduce hydrogen sulfide emissions. Furthermore, rosemary extract significantly enhanced the immune function of British Shorthair cats (p < 0.05). This study suggests that rosemary extract, particularly its fractions below 100 Da, is a highly promising pet deodorizer. Full article

Sperm freezability exhibits marked individual variability, yet the mechanisms remain unclear. Using bulls as the experimental model, we integrated proteomic (sperm) and metabolomic (seminal plasma) analyses of high-freezability (HF) and control (CF) bulls to identify key biomarkers associated with sperm freezability. Post-thaw motility and membrane integrity were significantly higher in HF bulls (p < 0.05). Sperm proteome analysis revealed upregulated antioxidant proteins (PRDX2, GSTM4), heat shock proteins (HSP70, HSP90), and key enzymes in arginine and proline metabolism (PRODH, LAP3). Seminal plasma metabolomics revealed elevated spermine in HF bulls. Meanwhile, we found that spermine abundance was positively correlated with post-thaw motility, as well as with the expression levels of both PRODH and LAP3 (r > 0.6, p < 0.05). Functional validation demonstrated that 200 μM spermine supplementation in cryopreservation extenders enhanced post-thaw motility, kinematic parameters (VAP, VSL, VCL), membrane integrity, and acrosome integrity (p < 0.05). Concurrently, spermine enhanced antioxidant enzyme (SOD, CAT, GSH-Px) activity and reduced ROS and MDA levels (p < 0.05). Our study reveals a spermine-driven antioxidant network coordinating sperm–seminal plasma synergy during cryopreservation, offering novel strategies for semen freezing optimization. Full article

With the industrialization and standardization of Chinese cuisine, accurate discrete element simulation parameters are essential for analyzing the flow and conveying behavior of dishes. This study focused on standardized Kung Pao Chicken and employed the Hertz–Mindlin (JKR) model to develop a discrete element model suitable for cohesive, multi-component Chinese cuisine. The triaxial dimensions of diced chicken, peanuts, and scallions were measured to construct the model. Physical experiments were conducted to obtain basic parameters. The main parameters of the constitutive model were determined using a stepwise regression fitting method. For inter-material contact parameters that are difficult to measure directly, key model parameters were calibrated by fitting simulated repose angle results to experimental measurements. The calibrated parameters enabled high simulation accuracy, with repose angle errors below 0.05%, confirming the model’s reliability. This study provides a theoretical foundation for the simulation and design of automated conveying systems tailored to Chinese cuisine. Full article

The performance of visual SLAM in complex, real-world scenarios is often compromised by unreliable feature extraction and matching when using handcrafted features. Although deep learning-based local features excel at capturing high-level information and perform well on matching benchmarks, they struggle with generalization in continuous motion scenes, adversely affecting loop detection accuracy. Our system employs a Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning (MAML) strategy to optimize the training of keypoint extraction networks, enhancing their adaptability to diverse environments. Additionally, we introduce a coarse-to-fine feature tracking mechanism for learned keypoints. It begins with a direct method to approximate the relative pose between consecutive frames, followed by a feature matching method for refined pose estimation. To mitigate cumulative positioning errors, DK-SLAM incorporates a novel online learning module that utilizes binary features for loop closure detection. This module dynamically identifies loop nodes within a sequence, ensuring accurate and efficient localization. Experimental evaluations on publicly available datasets demonstrate that DK-SLAM outperforms leading traditional and learning-based SLAM systems, such as ORB-SLAM3 and LIFT-SLAM. DK-SLAM achieves 17.7% better translation accuracy and 24.2% better rotation accuracy than ORB-SLAM3 on KITTI and 34.2% better translation accuracy on EuRoC. These results underscore the efficacy and robustness of our DK-SLAM in varied and challenging real-world environments. Full article
