Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Watershed water quality is a critical determinant of ecosystem health, human well-being, and sustainable water resource management. Rapid urbanization, industrialization, agricultural activities, and climate change are increasingly affecting the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of surface and groundwater systems, making the accurate monitoring and comprehensive assessment of water quality essential for informed management and policy-making. This Special Issue aims to bring together recent advances in methods, technologies, and frameworks for water quality monitoring, modeling, and evaluation in river basins, lakes, and other watershed systems. We seek contributions that advance scientific understanding, improve monitoring approaches, and support effective watershed management worldwide, welcoming original research articles, reviews, and case studies that address challenges and innovations in water quality assessment.

This Special Issue’s scope covers the monitoring and assessment of water quality in watersheds, with areas of interest including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Water quality monitoring techniques and sensor development;
  • Remote sensing and GIS applications for watershed water quality assessment;
  • Modeling and prediction of pollutant transport and fate in watersheds;
  • Assessment of nutrient loading, heavy metals, and emerging contaminants;
  • Water quality indices, risk assessment, and decision-support tools;
  • Impacts of land use, climate change, and anthropogenic activities on water quality;
  • Integrated watershed management and sustainable remediation strategies.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Water is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
