Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Rumen microbiome, nutrition, and resilience research is central to advancing ruminant health and production, particularly under the pressures of modern livestock systems. This field investigates the complex microbial ecosystems within the rumen, emphasizing their role in feed digestion, nutrient utilization, and metabolic efficiency. Studies focus on how dietary interventions, such as feed composition, additives, and forage-to-concentrate ratios, shape microbial community structure and function, thereby influencing host physiology and performance. A key objective is to enhance animal resilience, defined as the capacity to maintain productivity and health despite challenges like heat stress, dietary shifts, or pathogenic exposure. By deciphering host–microbe interactions and their modulation through nutrition, researchers aim to reduce methane emissions, improve feed conversion ratios, and decrease reliance on antimicrobials. Furthermore, understanding microbial resilience can inform strategies to stabilize rumen function during transitions or disturbances, ultimately supporting sustainable intensification. This research is fundamental for designing precision nutrition approaches that bolster immune function, mitigate digestive disorders, and promote overall well-being. In doing so, it contributes to the long-term viability, welfare, and environmental footprint reduction of ruminant production systems globally.
