Dear Colleagues,
Urban areas are facing increasing challenges due to rapid population growth, rising freight demand, congestion, air pollution, and the urgent need for decarbonization. At the same time, digital transformation driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), and cyber–physical systems is reshaping both urban mobility and logistics systems.
The transition toward smart, low-carbon, and resilient cities requires integrated approaches that jointly address passenger mobility and urban freight logistics. Innovations such as AI-based traffic management, digital twins, autonomous transport systems, electrified logistics fleets, and platform-based mobility services are enabling new pathways toward sustainable urban transport ecosystems.
This Special Issue aims to explore recent advances, methodological developments, and real-world applications that support the green and digital transformation of urban mobility and logistics systems.
This Special Issue welcomes original research articles, reviews, and case studies addressing theoretical, methodological, and applied aspects of smart and sustainable urban mobility and logistics systems.
The main objectives are to:
- Advance interdisciplinary research on smart urban mobility and logistics;
- Explore AI and digital technologies enabling sustainable transport systems;
- Bridge the gap between theory, modeling, and real-world implementation;
- Support the transition toward low-carbon and climate-resilient cities;
- Provide policy-relevant insights for urban decision-makers;

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Urban Science is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
