Special Issue Information
Dear Colleague,
The Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) projected increases in global mean temperature and a higher frequency of weather extremes in the coming decades. The climate crisis continues to change the tourism sector in various ways, including increased events of disruption, geographical and temporal shifts in climate suitability and tourism seasons, destination competitiveness, and health and diseases. Anthropogenic climate change and atmospheric variability are creating critical challenges for the tourism sector.
This Special Issue aims to explore state-of-the-art efforts in the climate impact study in tourism. It will explore the relationships between climate, weather, and tourism, examine the tourism consequences of climate change, and address the initiatives of the sector’s adaptation efforts to reduce the risks. Research that analyzes climate change impacts and adaptation strategies for future emission scenarios is highly encouraged.
All efforts, including high-quality original research and review articles in this field, are welcome for submission concerning the following topics, among others:
- Climate change risk in destinations;
- The relationship between climate, weather, and tourism travelers;
- The impact of climate change on tourism seasons;
- Tourists’ perceptions of climate change;
- Tourism industry responses to climate change;
- Future scenario planning and adaptations;
- Last chance tourism from a climate change perspective;
- Tourism resilience, mitigation, and adaptation to climate change.
