Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

“Symmetrical” means that something has balanced proportionality between its parts and “symmetry” means matching of different parts that combines them in the whole. The synonym of symmetry is “harmony”, but it indicates the acoustical and musical application of the idea of symmetry. In nature, the designer discovers the symmetry, the symmetry which objects of nature have by the force of their inner laws, and then copies and develops it to perfection. One of the first applications of ideas of symmetry to the electric circuit analysis was the method of symmetrical components. This method of analysis demonstrated that it is easier to use the ideas of direct, inverse, and zero sequences of current components than to deal with full currents in the phases of a three-phase electric system. It happens that the method of symmetrical components was the beginning of new ideas in “electrotechnical” thinking. The ideas of symmetry appeared in the analysis of electronic circuits using differential and common mode components, in the analysis and synthesis of multiphase oscillators, and many other applications of electronics, computing, and communication technologies.

Following this tradition of the application of symmetry in power systems, this Special Issue invites researchers to submit original research papers and review articles related to the design of electrical inverters and converters in which theoretical or practical issues of symmetry are considered. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Symmetry in electrical engineering;
  • Symmetry in electronic engineering;
  • Intelligent energy and power systems;
  • Renewable energy research;
  • Power and industrial electronics;
  • Inverters and waveform symmetries;
  • Converters and waveform symmetries.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Symmetry is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
