Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the continued expansion of deep-resource extraction and underground-space utilization, the in situ stress regimes, geological structures, and engineering disturbances affecting rock masses have become increasingly complex. Symmetry and asymmetry are ubiquitous intrinsic attributes of rocks and rock masses across multiple scales. They are manifested in many dimensions, including microstructures, fracture networks, the spatial distribution of rock strata, stress and deformation fields, multiphysics coupling responses, and engineering applications, and are therefore of considerable importance to research on the mechanical behavior, deformation evolution, energy transfer, and engineering stability of rock masses. In particular, under the combined effects of complex stress environments and dynamic disturbances, the damage evolution, failure processes, and instability modes of rock masses often exhibit pronounced asymmetric characteristics; their underlying mechanisms remain a central topic of ongoing research in rock mechanics. To foster academic exchange in rock mechanics and promote innovation in theoretical research and technological applications, the journal Symmetry plans to publish a Special Issue entitled “Symmetries and Asymmetries in Rock Mechanics.” We welcome original research and review articles on the symmetric and asymmetric structures of rocks and rock masses, their mechanical responses, damage and failure behavior, stability analysis, and engineering applications.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Symmetry is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
