Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Symmetry principles lie at the heart of modern particle physics, governing fundamental interactions and the organization of elementary particles. At the same time, the breaking of these symmetries—including flavor symmetry, chiral symmetry, CP symmetry and their associated asymmetries—provides essential insights into the origin of particle masses, flavor mixing, matter–antimatter asymmetry and possible physics beyond the Standard Model. Flavor physics has become one of the most sensitive probes of new phenomena, offering complementary information to direct searches at high-energy colliders through precision measurements of rare decays, CP violation, lepton flavor universality and flavor-changing neutral currents. Recent years have witnessed remarkable experimental and theoretical progress. Precision measurements from LHCb, Belle II, BESIII, ATLAS, CMS and other international collaborations continue to challenge our understanding of flavor dynamics and symmetry breaking. Meanwhile, advances in theoretical approaches—including effective field theories, lattice QCD, perturbative QCD, QCD factorization, the soft-collinear effective theory and amplitude analysis—have significantly improved the precision of Standard Model predictions. These developments provide unprecedented opportunities to investigate the interplay between symmetry and asymmetry across hadronic, electroweak and beyond-the-Standard-Model sectors.  This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the latest advances in symmetry and asymmetry studies within flavor physics. We welcome original research articles, reviews and perspectives addressing theoretical developments, phenomenological analyses, computational techniques and experimental results that deepen our understanding of flavor dynamics and fundamental symmetries. Contributions exploring interdisciplinary connections between flavor physics and cosmology, neutrino physics and new physics searches are also encouraged. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, flavor symmetries and symmetry-breaking mechanisms; CP violation and matter–antimatter asymmetry; heavy-flavor physics involving charm and bottom hadrons; rare decays and flavor-changing neutral currents; lepton flavor universality and lepton flavor violation; perturbative QCD, QCD factorization and lattice QCD; effective field theories and precision flavor phenomenology; hadron spectroscopy and exotic hadronic states; symmetry tests in baryon and meson decays; searches for physics beyond the Standard Model through flavor observables and experimental developments from LHCb, Belle II, BESIII, ATLAS, CMS and future flavor experiments. We look forward to receiving your contributions and to showcasing the latest developments in this vibrant and rapidly evolving field.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Symmetry is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
