Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Research in cognitive intelligence provides a fundamental understanding of how humans perceive, attend to, encode, and interpret information. Symmetry plays a fundamental role in cognitive processes, neural information processing, physiological regulation, motor coordination, and intelligent perception. Recent advances in artificial intelligence, multimodal sensing, bio-signal processing, and rehabilitation robotics have emphasized the importance of integrating psychological, neuroscientific, physiological, and engineering principles into intelligent system design while exploring symmetric and asymmetric patterns underlying human cognition and behavior.
This Special Issue aims to bring together researchers from cognitive science, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, signal processing, artificial intelligence, robotics, rehabilitation engineering, and human–machine interaction. The focus is on intelligent multimodal perception and bio-signal processing for understanding human cognition, physiological states, motor behavior, rehabilitation processes, and adaptive human–robot interaction, with particular emphasis on symmetry-related principles, structural representations, and computational models in intelligent systems.
Contributions addressing theoretical modeling, experimental validation, multimodal signal processing, AI-based interpretation, symmetry-aware learning algorithms, symmetry-based feature extraction, and practical system implementation are highly encouraged. The Special Issue welcomes original research articles, review papers, and technical studies related to healthcare monitoring, cognitive assessment, assistive technologies, rehabilitation robotics, wearable sensing, intelligent human-centered systems, and symmetry analysis in cognitive, physiological, and multimodal data.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Human cognition and perception modeling;
- Multimodal signal processing and sensor fusion;
- EEG, EMG, ECG, eye tracking, motion sensing, and physiological signal analysis;
- Bio-signal processing for healthcare monitoring and rehabilitation;
- Cognitive engineering for intelligent system design;
- Neuro-information processing and cognitive assessment;
- Rehabilitation robotics and assistive technologies;
- Human movement analysis, gait assessment, motor control, and postural balance;
- AI-based rehabilitation assessment and therapy support;
- Human–robot interaction in healthcare and rehabilitation environments;
- Wearable sensing systems for cognitive and physical monitoring;
- Adaptive and attention-aware user interface design;
- Cognitive load estimation and behavioral signal interpretation;
- Natural language processing and cognitive AI for human–AI interaction;
- Machine learning, deep learning, and explainable AI for bio-signal and behavioral data;
- Smart environments and adaptive platforms for elderly care, rehabilitation, and healthcare support.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Symmetry is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
