Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Recent advances in quantum computing have opened new opportunities for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) techniques with quantum information processing. Beyond early demonstrations of quantum speedups, there is growing recognition that AI can play a fundamental role in the design, optimization, control and interpretation of quantum systems, while quantum computing offers new computational paradigms for learning and decision-making. This Special Issue focuses on Artificial Intelligence in Quantum Computing and Quantum Information, spanning both fundamental methodologies and real-world applications.

We invite contributions that address theoretical foundations, algorithmic innovations and practical implementations of Quantum AI, including quantum machine learning, quantum reinforcement learning, variational quantum algorithms, hybrid classical–quantum architectures, symmetry in quantum neural architecture and learning-based quantum control. Particular emphasis is placed on AI-assisted quantum system design, architecture search, noise mitigation and adaptive experiment optimization.

In addition to methodological advances, this Special Issue explicitly welcomes scientific and commercial applications of Quantum AI, such as quantum-enabled optimization and learning for finance and logistics, quantum-enhanced sensing and metrology, materials discovery, chemistry and drug design, communication networks and decision-making systems. By bridging theory, applications and deployment perspectives, this Special Issue aims to highlight how Quantum AI can transition from laboratory demonstrations to scalable, impactful technologies.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Symmetry is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
