Comprehensive Application of Concrete for Sustainability in Construction and Green Building

This special issue belongs to the section “Green Building“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Concrete remains the most widely used construction material worldwide, playing a crucial role in modern infrastructure, civil engineering and the development of sustainable and resilient buildings. With the growing emphasis on green building practices and environmental responsibility, researchers and engineers are seeking innovative solutions to improve the durability, mechanical behavior and energy efficiency of concrete structures. The integration of advanced materials, structural analysis methods and sustainable construction approaches is vital to achieving the dual objectives of performance and sustainability.

This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the applications of concrete in construction, with particular attention to its role in advancing green building strategies. In line with the scope of Sustainability, it welcomes interdisciplinary studies that explore experimental, computational and analytical perspectives to enhance concrete performance and support sustainable construction practices. By combining insights from material science, structural engineering and building technology, this Special Issue seeks to highlight new directions for sustainable infrastructure development.

In this Special Issue, original research articles, reviews and case studies are welcome. Potential research areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Advanced concrete materials and composite applications
  • Structural analysis and finite element modeling of concrete and steel structures
  • Concrete durability and long-term performance in green buildings
  • Mechanical behavior and nonlinear analysis of construction materials
  • Sustainable applications of concrete in civil engineering projects
  • Innovations in concrete technology for energy-efficient buildings
  • Life-cycle assessment and environmental impacts of concrete use
  • Integration of concrete with green building certification frameworks

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
