Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a call for papers for a Special Issue on "Low Carbon and Sustainable Green Economy", to be published in Sustainability. This Special Issue seeks to highlight the latest research, innovative solutions, and policy frameworks that drive the transition toward a low-carbon, sustainable, and environmentally responsible economy.

Scope and Objectives

The global shift towards a green economy is accelerating in response to the pressing challenges posed by climate change, resource depletion, and environmental degradation. Achieving a low-carbon and sustainable future requires integrated strategies across multiple sectors, including energy, transportation, industry, agriculture, finance, and urban development. This Special Issue invites original research, case studies, theoretical contributions, and policy analyses that explore the transformation of the global economy through sustainable and low-carbon pathways.

Key topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Low-Carbon Technologies and Innovation: Developments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, green technologies, and carbon capture.
  • Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency: Innovative practices that reduce waste, promote recycling, and optimize the use of natural resources.
  • Green Jobs and Social Inclusion: How green economies can foster job creation, social inclusion, and economic resilience.
  • Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation: Policy and technological solutions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate impacts.
  • Carbon Pricing and Emissions Trading: Mechanisms for incentivizing low-carbon development and reducing carbon footprints.
  • Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems: Solutions for making agriculture more sustainable while reducing its environmental impact.
  • Urban Sustainability and Green Infrastructure: The role of cities in promoting sustainable practices, green spaces, and climate-resilient infrastructure.
  • International Policy and Global Governance: Collaborative efforts and international frameworks that drive global action toward a green economy.
  • Behavioral and Societal Transitions: Public engagement, lifestyle changes, and societal transformation necessary for a sustainable economy.

Look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Green technology innovation (GTI) is the core force driving the sustainable and advanced progression of the economy. Accurately assessing the green technology innovation efficiency (GTIE) of Chinese industrial firms will help promote the green transformation and development of industrial firms. Based on the three-stage DEA(3S-DEA) model, the article measures the GTIE of Chinese industrial firms from 2013 to 2022. Then, its spatial distribution characteristics and spatial spillover effects were analyzed using the spatial Durbin model (SDM). The study shows that after excluding environmental elements and stochastic interference, the value of GTIE of industrial firms shows the trend of east > central > northeast > west; the GTIE of industrial firms has significant spatial correlation, and there are differences in direct and spillover effects under different spatial weight matrices. The level of economic development, industrialization, openness, and information infrastructure has a remarkable positive influence on the GTIE of industrial firms, while government support does not show a significant effect.
