Dear Colleagues,
Sustainability transitions require more than scientific knowledge, policy frameworks, or technical innovation—they also depend on cultural and educational processes that shape how individuals and communities understand their relationship with complex socio-ecological systems. In recent years, technology-enhanced education has expanded rapidly through digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and interactive learning environments. Yet the transformative potential of these tools hinges on how effectively technology design and innovation can communicate and share values, visions, and actionable futures.
Transformation also demands new modes of thinking, imagining, and communicating—and technology is the core driver of this change. For this reason, technology-enabled narrative and interactive practices have become vital dimensions of sustainability education. Digital storytelling, virtual and augmented reality, AI-supported creative systems, and intermedial learning environments function not merely as technical supports but as foundational infrastructures for fostering empathy, systems thinking, ethical reflection, and sustainable behavior change.
Despite a growing body of research on technology applications in sustainability education, there remains a lack of comprehensive synthesis that integrates technological innovation with pedagogical practice, community engagement, and multimodal or digital narrative forms. This Special Issue brings together perspectives from education, digital media studies, environmental humanities, and technology design to explore how technology acts as a central force in sustainability learning across formal, informal, and community contexts. Contributions examine both technology-driven pedagogical innovation and applied practice, including AI-enhanced educational tools, immersive learning systems, participatory media platforms, and research methodologies that treat technology as an agent of transformation.
By integrating technological innovation with sustainability goals, this Special Issue aims to demonstrate how technology-enhanced education can help raise ecological awareness, collective agency, and long-term socio-environmental resilience.
We invite theoretical, empirical, and practice-based contributions that investigate how digital and emerging technologies—such as digital storytelling, AI-supported learning systems, and participatory platforms—can advance ecological awareness, community empowerment, and long-term socio-environmental sustainability.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
