Dear Colleagues,
Agricultural engineering is central to addressing global sustainability challenges such as resource inefficiency, climate resilience, agricultural waste accumulation, and food insecurity. This Special Issue focuses on Sustainable Agricultural Engineering Technology and Development with a clear emphasis on precision agriculture and smart agricultural systems, anchored in circular-economy- and systems‑based approaches. It aims to collect frontier research that explicitly links intelligent engineering technologies to measurable environmental and socio‑economic outcomes, including improved resource efficiency, carbon reduction, waste valorization, and enhanced livelihoods, especially for smallholder farming systems. The Special Issue encourages critical perspectives covering technological benefits, limitations, adoption barriers, and scalability challenges. We welcome high‑quality original research and review papers that advance interdisciplinary innovation and real‑world impact toward low‑carbon, efficient, and sustainable modern agriculture.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Precision agriculture, IoT, and intelligent farming technologies for resource efficiency and climate resilience
- Smart detection and control systems based on machine vision and deep learning for sustainable agriculture
- Green non destructive testing and intelligent quality evaluation of agricultural products
- Agricultural waste valorization and biomass energy conversion toward circular agricultural systems
- Sustainable design, optimization, and low carbon operation of intelligent agricultural machinery and equipment
- Energy efficient smart facility agriculture and sustainable management models with scalability considerations

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
