Quality Management in Sustainable Food Systems: Consumer Behavior, Digital Innovation and Certification
This special issue belongs to the section “Sustainable Food“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Sustainable food systems are based on production, distribution, and consumption models that ensure human health, environmental sustainability, and social and economic equity. Global companies are seeking sustainable practices to improve resource efficiency and mitigate environmental impact; therefore, adopting circular supply chain management is becoming increasingly important. Circular strategies involve all supply chain stakeholders: actions aimed at reducing food waste, natural resource management practices to preserve biodiversity, and the application of sustainable advanced technologies that ensure supply chain safety and value. The key principles of a circular economy include the use of secondary resources, reducing waste and pollution, and the implementation of digitalization to efficiently track processes and material flows.
Research on quality management is particularly important, as it offers valuable insights for effectively integrating these practices into business operations and creating more efficient, competitive, innovative, and green models.
This Special Issue will collect original contributions on quality management research in sustainable food systems and provide insights for adopting both circular supply chain practices and business models. Furthermore, any extensive summaries of the current literature on relevant topics will be taken into consideration.
Factors that influence the decision-making process and methods used for modeling circular supply chains, such as life cycle assessment (LCA), will be considered, based on a holistic approach. In addition, the role and impact of Industry 5.0 technologies in the agri-food sector and the challenges that food supply chain organizations face in achieving sustainability goals will be explored.
