Special Issue Information
Dear colleagues,
This special issue comprises selected papers on sustainable regional and urban development. Sustainable development comprises economic, environmental and social dimensions and typically requires an interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary approach in order to analyse and explore relevant sustainability issues. Regional and urban development studies are similarly multifaceted. In this issue, we welcome spatial and/or region-specific topics that relate to sustainability concerns. Papers may be conceptual, empirical or theoretical, and they are likely to make use of insights and analytical tools from a diverse set of disciplines and research fields. Papers dealing with the sustainability of spatial aspects of urban phenomena are particularly welcome. Suggestive examples of relevant themes range from the role of durability in creating an environmentally sustainable built environment over the economic sustainability of urban rail transit to the social sustainability of spatially segregated metropolitan areas. Papers selected for this special issue are subject to rigorous peer review with the aim of ensuring rapid and wide dissemination of valuable theoretical novelties and empirical research results.
