Dear Colleagues,
Power supply chain systems encompass the complex processes and logistics involved in the production, transmission, distribution, and consumption of electrical power, and, owing to the challenges associated with scale, complexity, supply/demand volatility, and disruptions, managing these systems is a complex field. The energy ecosystem is currently undergoing a profound transformation with the addition newer variable sources (wind and solar), as well as variable demand points such as electric vehicles (EVs). These changes are reshaping power supply chain systems and their performance, introducing both challenges and opportunities to enhance their efficiency and sustainability, which deserve thorough study. To address these critical aspects, we are pleased to announce a Special Issue dedicated to the theme of the “The Sustainable Performance of Power Supply Chain Systems”. This Special Issue aims to provide researchers and industry experts with a comprehensive platform to present and discuss the latest inventions, innovations, and solutions that can see practical applications in the field of power supply chain systems and their operations.
The Special Issue will cover a broad spectrum of topics related to sustainability, digitization, and the resilience of power supply chain systems, with emphasis on addressing complex and emerging challenges, including supply–demand integration, cybersecurity, logistics optimization, and efficiency improvements. Submissions are encouraged to explore these areas:
- Sustainable sourcing and procurement practices in the power industry;
- Supply–demand integration: integrating various consumption points such as buildings, households, and industries, and EV infrastructure with supply chain systems for coordinated optimization;
- Integrating renewable energy sources into the power supply chain, both at large scales and as distributed energy resources (DERs);
- Digitalization and automation of power supply chain processes, such as advanced distribution management systems (ADMSs), distributed energy resource management systems (DERMSs), virtual power plants (VPPs), and DER aggregators, that leverage digital twins, artificial intelligence, and diverse engineering models;
- Resilience planning and risk management in power systems, including cybersecurity measures, anomaly detection, predictive analytics, and disaster management;
- Optimization of complex logistics systems, including efficient energy dispatch, managing storage, electric vehicles, and their intersections;
- Energy efficiency initiatives in power generation, transmission, and distribution;
- Stakeholder engagement and community involvement in sustainable power supply chain practices;
- Case studies, application of AI/ML, and best practices in sustainable power supply chain management;
- Innovations in technology and infrastructure toward improving the efficiency and sustainability of power supply chain systems.
We invite researchers, academics, industry professionals, and policymakers to contribute original research articles, reviews, and case studies to this Special Issue. We sincerely look forward to enabling this Special Issue to complement existing literature by offering fresh insights, practical solutions, and interdisciplinary perspectives on the challenges and opportunities in this critical field. Together, we can advance the understanding and implementation of sustainable practices in power supply chain systems to ensure a reliable and environmentally responsible energy future.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
