Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In recent years, there has been a significant change in the approach to energy production, driven primarily by the challenges associated with climate change and growing energy demand. Many countries are striving to systematically increase the share of renewable energy sources in their energy mix and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, the conventional energy sector is undergoing a major transformation aimed at improving energy efficiency and minimising its environmental impact.

In this context, maximizing the efficiency of energy systems and equipment and minimizing emissions of harmful substances into the environment play a significant role. This is achieved, among other things, through improved management—including the optimization of heat transfer and flow processes in energy and industrial equipment, energy recovery, and the use of renewable energy sources.

This special issue of the journal Sustainability, titled “The Sustainable Energy Systems and Heat Transfer Engineering,” aims to bring together the latest scientific and applied research in this field.

Topics that may be covered in the publication include, among others:

  • Industrial development and energy crisis;
  • System analysis methods, including life cycle assessment and management;
  • Sustainable utilization of resources such as land, water, atmosphere and other biological resources;
  • New and renewable sources of energy;
  • Waste heat recovery;
  • Cogeneration;
  • Sustainable energy preservation and regeneration methods;
  • Effects of global climate change on development and sustainability;
  • Sustainable energy usage.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
