Dear Colleagues,
The swift hike in global population and urbanization has diversified consumption habits and created a need for the adoption of smart technologies beyond traditional farming. The endorsement of computer vision and deep learning has automated the traditional process of farming and coined the term ‘smart agriculture’, the smart connected agricultural technologies embedded with AI, machine learning, and IoT having transformed the scenario of agriculture in a prominent way. The brisk advancement in video surveillance systems automated by AI has enabled the protection of fields from animal breaches, and the merger of IoT with artificial intelligence has improved the prediction analysis of crop yield by capturing data using real-time sensors and aerial imaging with the use of drones.
Infrared cameras capture data through drones and combine them with sensors installed on the ground for the competent prediction and identification of pest infection and control; thus, making it clear that artificial intelligence promotes better decision making and precision agriculture powered by AI, forthcoming as the next big development in the field of agriculture, at the same time paving the way for the third green revolution through smart farming and IoT-driven agriculture. The pandemic has accelerated traceability adoption across all agricultural supply chains in 2020, and will continue to drive its adoption. The inventory shrinkage can be controlled by a well-managed track-and-trace system providing a greater visibility and control across supply chains powered by artificial intelligence, with the optimization and application of biodegradable pesticides only to affected fields being one of the prominent AI applications having significantly reduced costs.
This Special Issue invites individuals to submit original quality work regarding the domain of emerging technologies transforming traditional agriculture, and urges to highlight the important sub-disciplines within, but not limited to, the following topics:

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
