Dear Colleagues,
Although global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs) are widely spread for positioning purposes, they cannot operate properly in indoor areas such as hospitals, shopping areas, factories or warehouses. Although most indoor positioning solutions depend on radio frequency transmission, there is rising interest in positioning using computer vision as systems based on this technology may be an interesting, cost-effective alternative to well-known systems based on LiDAR or ultra-wideband (UWB) technologies.
This Special Issue encourages authors from both academia and industry to submit new research results about technological innovations and novel applications for positioning, tracking and wayfinding using computer vision. Topics of interest for this Special Issue include but are not limited to the following:
- Positioning by means of computer vision;
- Way-finding by means of computer vision;
- Tracking by means of computer vision;
- Sensor fusion, including computer vision;
- Novel technologies;
- New applications;
- State-of-the-art devices;
- Infrastructure-less approaches;
- Indoor/outdoor transition systems;
- Challenges in design and deployment;
- Applied machine learning;
- Evaluation.
We also encourage authors to co-submit a data paper to the joint Issue we are editing in Data entitled “Computer Vision Datasets for Positioning, Tracking and Wayfinding” (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/data/special_issues/Comput_Vis) as a complementary publication, so that data can easily be cited, traced and re-used for further research.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
