Dear Colleagues,
Compared to conventional types of sensors, optical fiber sensors have many unique advantages, including low-cost, light-weight, compact-size, high-sensitivity, environment-resistivity, and bio-compatibility. Versatile designs and various tunable parameters of optical fibers enable the detection of many physical parameters to be measured: mechanical strain/stress/bending curvature, temperature, refraction index, transmission absorption and dispersion, biological and biochemical signals and many others. Moreover, fiber sensing, depending on sensing scales, detection frequency range, and specific applications, have been deployed on many different occasions, from long-distance distributed sensing to miniature biological sensors.
This Special Issue aims to put together original research and review articles on recent advances in optical fiber sensors and their applications. Relevant progress on fiber sensor designs and models, manufacturing technologies, packaging or distribution solutions, emerging applications, and new challenges in the field will be addressed.
Potential topics include but are not limited to:
- Microstructure fiber sensors
- Distributed fiber sensing, acoustic/strain sensing, OTDR
- Fiber optic shape, temperature, vibration sensing
- Biochemical and biological fiber sensors, optical field sensing
- Broadband or terawave fiber optical sensors

Manuscript Submission Information

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
