Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The rapid advancement of robotics in healthcare has provided both transformative opportunities and posed critical challenges. From surgical assistance and rehabilitation to patient monitoring and personalized care, robotics is revolutionizing medical practice, addressing workforce shortages, and expanding the availability of healthcare. However, the successful integration of these technologies requires various ethical, regulatory, and implementation-related challenges to be addressed.
This Special Issue is dedicated to exploring the evolving role of robotics in healthcare, showcasing research on human–robot interaction, AI-driven diagnostics, sensor-enabled robotic systems, and the impact of robotics on the accessibility and equity of healthcare. As healthcare demands grow, it is imperative to examine how robotics can enhance efficiency, safety, and patient outcomes.
By compiling interdisciplinary perspectives, this collection aims to foster innovation, discussions, and responsible advancements in healthcare robotics. The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:
- Robotics for medical procedures and surgery
- Human-robot interaction in healthcare
- Robotics in rehabilitation and assistive technologies
- Robotics for healthcare accessibility and equity
- Personalized medicine through robotic and AI-driven interventions
- Sensor-enabled robotic systems and automation
- Ethical, legal, and regulatory considerations in healthcare robotics
- Robotics for elderly and dementia care
- Future directions and innovations in healthcare robotics

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
