Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues, 

Nanotechnological approaches have gained significant interest in the pharmaceutical field, particularly in drug delivery, repurposing, and optimisation. Current research focuses on improving the efficacy and stability of the various drugs administered via different routes. More advanced approaches focus on personalised systems that allow for the individualisation of therapy at the bedside, the delivery of biologics and RNA constructs, and stimuli-responsive and precise drug delivery through active targeting strategies. Recent studies have highlighted the potential for biomimetic materials and coatings that could further advance the field. Altogether, these approaches offer new opportunities for the treatment of complex diseases. Beyond drug delivery, nanotechnology has proven to be a powerful theranostic platform combining therapeutic and diagnostic functionalities. However, considerable challenges remain, particularly around understanding key formulation factors, as well as around preparation methods, scalability, and clinical translation. At the same time, the rise of artificial intelligence and machine learning is another driving force accelerating research toward more efficient drug delivery to target sites where the patient needs it, with limited toxicity. Hence, this Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the future trends in nano drug delivery. 

Suitable topics include, but are not limited to, the following: personalised nanosized drug delivery systems, stimuli-responsive nanoparticles, biomimetic nanocarriers, theranostic nanoparticles, drug repurposing through nanotechnology, translational challenges, clinical applications, etc.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Scientia Pharmaceutica is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
