Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The pediatric population presents unique and complex challenges in oral healthcare, particularly when addressing gross carious lesions, premature tooth loss, craniofacial anomalies or severe dental trauma. Traditional approaches often apply standardized protocols that may not account for the profound individual variability in a child's growth and development, risk of dental caries, etiology of tooth loss, psychological maturity and family environment. This Special Issue, titled "Personalized and Preventive Approaches in Pediatric Prosthodontics and Oral Care," seeks to highlight and advance the paradigm shift towards tailored, proactive strategies in this field.

We invite original investigations and comprehensive reviews that integrate emerging technologies, biologically driven materials and patient-specific care models. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: AI-driven diagnostics, 3D cephalometrics, CAD/CAM fabrication and additive manufacturing for customised prostheses, genetic risk profiling, salivary biomarkers, bioactive materials and behavioural interventions that reduce the need for extensive rehabilitation. Prevention is positioned as the cornerstone of lifelong oral health. Therefore, manuscripts evaluating targeted, evidence-based preventive protocols are strongly encouraged.

The scope of this Special Issue is intentionally broad and interdisciplinary. Contributions may address the following topics:

  • Advanced diagnostic and risk assessment tools;
  • Novel biomaterials for pulp therapy and restorative dentistry in primary and young permanent teeth;
  • Digital workflows that seamlessly connect diagnosis, treatment planning and chair-side fabrication;
  • Prosthodontic rehabilitation for children with gross carious lesions, hypodontia, traumatised dentitions or craniofacial syndromes;
  • Patient- and family-centred oral health promotion models that improve children’s oral health status and their quality of life;
  • Health-economic analyses and long-term outcome data on oral health care for children;

This collection aims to serve as a foundational resource for clinicians, researchers and policymakers dedicated to redefining excellence in children's oral healthcare.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
