Advances in Ionic Liquids in Chemical and Biological Engineering

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Over the past decades, there have been increasing concerns regarding the use of conventional and volatile solvents, gas emissions and environmental impacts in the processes implemented in chemical and biological engineering areas. Therefore, alternative and greener solvents have been introduced and studied in process development in order to reduce (or eliminate) the use of hazardous solvents, minimize the production of gases and residues, and minimize the respective environmental impact. In this context, ionic liquids (ILs) have been in the spotlight of several research and development activities, due to their greener properties and outstanding performance in several applications, including the synthesis and (bio)catalysis, analytical applications, electrochemistry and extraction, separation and purification processes of value-added compounds from different sources. Considering the outstanding properties and diversity of applications that can be considered for ILs, with a high impact in the chemical and biological engineering areas, ILs continue to be a hot topic and the focus of several important studies.

Given the relevance behind the research on ionic liquids and on improving efficiency/sustainability in the chemical and biological engineering areas, it is our great pleasure to invite the submission of high-quality research or review articles to the Special Issue “Advances in Ionic Liquids in Chemical and Biological Engineering”. This Special Issue aims to cover promising, recent and novel research trends in the use of ionic liquids as alternative and high-impact solvents for a wide variety of areas/applications, including (but are not limited to) pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food, pulp and paper, textile and other chemical/biological areas/applications. Interdisciplinary research on novel concepts and approaches is also welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
