Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Diverse chemical reactions may be more efficiently (e.g., more rapidly, under milder conditions, using environmentally friendly solvents, etc.) performed with the aid of catalytic moieties. Ideally, after a catalytic reaction is completed, the catalysts must be separated from the corresponding reaction medium, regenerated, and reutilized in further catalytic cycles. Nevertheless, most of the catalysts cannot be effectively recycled for further usage due to several intrinsic limitations of the reaction systems. Encouraged by the unlimited possibilities provided by functional polymers in terms of supplying and adjusting various chemical, physical, and/or biological properties, the development of smart polymer catalysts intent to combine catalytic functional groups of high activity with stimuli-responsive properties in diverse polymer materials. This novel approach has brought together the advantages of homogeneous catalysis and heterogeneous separation processes in single catalytic systems. Thus, this Special Issue focuses on highlighting the significant potential of combining both stimuli-responsive and catalytic moieties into polymer materials to develop intelligent catalytic systems and/or separation processes aiming to alleviate the current limitations of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts in chemical reactions of industrial importance. Hence, the development of fully circular smart materials and separation processes for the chemical industry of the twenty-first century may be made possible by this strategy.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
