Dear Colleagues,
Polymers are widely studied for their advantages of effectiveness and applicability in heavy metals treatment in multiple environmental conditions in recent years. Various strategies have been employed to design, synthesize, and prepare environmental functional polymers with special structures, functions, and forms toward heavy metals treatment (adsorption, separation, immobilization, or passivation, etc.). Studies include the use of natural or synthetic polymers accompanied with preparation techniques of chemical and physical modifications/grafting or ion/molecule imprinting to obtain environmental functional materials/composites with high efficiency, stability in extreme conditions (acid, alkali, salt, temperature), multiple response to different pollutants in a co-contaminated environment, easy separation or recovery of useful metals, and application in mediums of water, soil, and sediment.
In view of the importance of polymers in environmental applications, this Special Issue “Polymeric Materials in Heavy Metal Treatment” invites recent advances in subjects focusing on but not limited to the design and synthesis of functional polymers as well as their application in heavy metals treatment. This Special Issue will provide timely and comprehensive references for recent progress in this subject, with the expectation to promote the corresponding fundamental research and its practical applications. Papers are not limited to original research articles. Reviews, perspectives, and short communications are also welcomed.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
