DNA Free Genome Editing for Crop Improvement

Dear Colleagues,

Global climate change, increasing population rate, and the development of new variants of pests and pathogens constrain sustainable agriculture production. The demand for plant varieties that can be adapted to changing environmental conditions is of great interest. In this situation, genome-editing technologies have become more popular because of the fast and precise engineering of genomes compared to slow and laborious conventional breeding techniques. Various genome-editing methods can be used in different plant species to identify the gene functions and improve agriculturally essential traits. Considering the high interest in genome editing techniques for crop improvement in the face of global climate change, the special issue will focus on emerging trends in DNA-free genome editing for crop improvement, the regulations associated with commercialization and future aspects for the involvement of this technology in crop breeding strategies. Original research papers and review articles can be submitted. The focus is not limited to CRISPR-Cas; any targeted gene modification for crop improvement will be evaluated.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
