Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Hormonal regulation plays a critical role in the complex processes of plant development and stress tolerance. Plants rely on a sophisticated network of hormones that coordinate growth, flowering, fruiting, and their responses to various environmental stresses. These hormones, including auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins, abscisic acid, and ethylene, act as chemical messengers, transmitting signals throughout the plant's tissues and organs. Each hormone has specific functions and influences different aspects of plant development, such as cell division, elongation, differentiation, and senescence. Moreover, these hormones are intricately involved in the plant's ability to cope with abiotic and biotic stresses, such as drought, salinity, pathogens, and temperature fluctuations. By modulating hormone levels and signaling pathways, plants can adapt and respond to stressful conditions. Understanding the intricate hormonal regulation of plant development and stress tolerance is not only vital for advancing our awareness of plant biology, but also holds significant potential for improving crop productivity and resilience in the face of environmental challenges. The topics of the papers can cover, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The hormonal regulation of plant development at various stages of growth (such seed germination, flowering, fruit development and ripening, leaf senescence, and others);
  • The impact of hormones on abiotic and biotic stress tolerance;
  • Hormone signaling and biosynthesis in plants;
  • The genetic modification of plants to alter their hormonal responses.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Plants is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
