Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Neglected parasitic diseases (NPDs) remain a persistent and often underestimated global health challenge, disproportionately affecting impoverished and marginalized populations. Despite decades of research and intervention, millions continue to suffer from parasitic infections such as schistosomiasis, leishmaniasis, soil-transmitted helminthiases, filariasis, and other zoonotic and protozoan diseases that receive limited scientific and policy attention. Recent advances in molecular biology, epidemiological modelling, data analytics, and One Health frameworks have opened new pathways for understanding and controlling these diseases. At the same time, climate change, urbanization, and socio-economic inequalities are reshaping their distribution and transmission dynamics. Despite progress in control, limited attention, weak surveillance, and emerging resistance hinder elimination efforts.

Topics include disease mapping, climate and environmental impacts, host–parasite interactions, molecular and omics-based insights, drug and vaccine development, and One Health-based control approaches. We also welcome papers addressing socioeconomic, policy, and implementation challenges, including digital tools, surveillance innovations, and community-based interventions. Our goal is to advance multidisciplinary collaboration linking human, animal, and environmental health, and to highlight scalable, data-driven strategies for sustainable control and elimination. This Special Issue seeks to bring together cutting-edge research, reviews, and perspectives that address the epidemiological trends, pathobiological mechanisms, and innovative strategies for control and elimination of neglected parasitic diseases.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Pathogens is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
