Sexually Transmitted Infections: Pathogens, Resistance, and Prevention
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We can announce the launch of a Special Issue entitled “Sexually Transmitted Infections: Pathogens, Resistance, and Prevention” in Pathogens, a prestigious journal specializing in all aspects of pathogens and pathogen–host interactions.
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) continue to be a major health issue worldwide. They occur in both industrialized and developing countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that 374 million people experienced chlamydiosis, gonorrhea, syphilis, or trichomoniasis in 2020 and that more than one million people contract an STI every day, with most of them being asymptomatic. The morbidity and mortality of STIs worldwide seriously compromise quality of life.
This Special Issue will gather high-quality contributions that advance our understanding of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), focusing on pathogenesis, antimicrobial resistance, and preventive strategies. We welcome varied submissions, such as original research articles, short communications, comprehensive reviews, case reports, and opinion pieces. Manuscripts should not only present novel findings but also highlight existing knowledge gaps and propose innovative approaches to address them.
We encourage researchers to submit their research to this Special Issue, thereby contributing to the improved prevention, early diagnosis, and effective treatment of STIs. Your contributions will play a crucial role in strengthening scientific knowledge and supporting global public health efforts. We look forward to receiving your valuable manuscripts.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Pathogens is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
