Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Numerous illnesses, including cancer, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and neurological disorders, have been linked directly or indirectly to a deficiency of vital nutrients, which results in oxidative stress, inflammation, and metabolic malfunction. Pharmacologically active nutrients, also known as bioactive substances, are food ingredients that, by altering important metabolic and cellular pathways, have therapeutic or prophylactic benefits against illnesses. Food as medicine demonstrates how dietary strategies can be used to treat complicated metabolic dysfunctions and enhance the prognosis of chronic illnesses. This Special Issue provides a forum for scientists to highlight their research findings on how pharmacologically active nutrients such as flavanol, polyphenols, omega-3s, and others modulate metabolic pathways (e.g., NF-KB, AMPK, mTOR, Nrf2) in cellular homeostasis, leading to a complementary approach to disease prevention and management of Chronic Disease. We welcome submissions of high-quality research in the form of original research, mini-reviews, and reviews of the scientific literature on topics highlighting “Pharmacologically Active Nutrients and Metabolic Pathways in Chronic Disease.”
