Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In 2021, 761 million people worldwide were aged 65 and older, which will rise to 1.6 billion by 2050. The number of people aged 80 years or older is growing even faster. With the accelerated aging of the world's population, timely identification of health problems in the elderly population, analysis of relevant influencing factors and adoption of certain intervention measures are of great significance to achieve healthy aging. Individual factors such as age, gender, race, genetic factors, socioeconomic status, social factors and environmental factors may have some impacts on the health of the elderly. Dietary intake, as one of the most important health influencing factors, is of great significance to the nutrition and health of the elderly. As for how to assess dietary intake and related health problems of the elderly, there is a shortage of nutritional and epidemiological studies on the evaluation of dietary patterns of the elderly, the analysis of health problems and the correlation between diet and disease.

The purpose of this Special Issue is to provide an in-depth review of the current state of assessment of dietary intake and related health problems in the elderly, as well as how to conduct more rational dietary intake assessment, diet-related health problems research and interventions for the elderly in the future. Therefore, we encourage the submission of cutting-edge original research and review articles on dietary intake assessment, geriatric health assessment, and innovative methods and technologies to assist the elderly in assessing dietary intake and related health problems, which are beneficial to the promotion of healthy aging. These studies will contribute to improved support and prevention strategies for the elderly.
