Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The focus on nutritional immunity has become a significant paradigm in immunology and nutritional science, emphasizing the complex interplay between dietary factors and host immunity. This concept not only emphasizes nutritional adequacy as a prerequisite for immune defense but also positions nutrition as a variable determinant of the immune system. These insights collectively reinforce the critical role that nutrition plays in shaping immune responses across diverse physiological and pathological conditions. However, the emerging complexity of nutrient–immune interactions has moved the field beyond the study of individual nutrients in isolation. Instead, there is a growing recognition of the need to conceptualize and investigate these interactions within an integrated framework known as nutritional immunity, which emphasizes the dynamic interplay between dietary components, host immune function, and disease outcomes. The immunomodulatory effects of nutrients on health or disease are expected to be explored, supported by their detailed mechanisms.
The following topics are relevant to this Special Issue, which aims to elucidate the complex relationship between dietary nutrition and immunity:
- Effects of food nutrients on innate or adaptive immunity;
- The mechanism of enhanced or inhibited immunity by food ingredients
- The mediated effect of intestinal microbiome on immunomodulation;
- The newly defined beneficial effect of probiotics or prebiotics on immunity;
- The interplay of nutritional immunomodulatory effects with chronic diseases.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
