Dear Colleagues,
Intracellular trafficking of proteins and lipids are highly regulated processes that require the coordination of various signaling mediators in order to control cargo sorting and processing. Additionally, recent work has shown that the various vesicular and nonvesicular trafficking pathways, including the biosynthetic and exosomal secretory pathways, endocytic trafficking, segregation to lipid nanodomains, lysosomal targeting, and lipid transport at membrane contact sites regulate various signaling pathways to determine cellular function. Despite recent advances, the precise regulation of signaling outputs and integration of multiple signaling events by intracellular trafficking is not yet well understood. In this Special Issue, we aim to highlight recent developments in the field, including new methodology and conceptual advances, as well as to create a forum for discussion of the current challenges and future goals in our understanding of the spatiotemporal control of cell signaling processes.
