14–18 September 2025, Smolenice Castle, Slovakia
The Ninth Symposium on the Alpha-Amylase Family—ALAMY_9
The Symposium will traditionally be held in the Smolenice Castle situated on a hill above the small city of Smolenice, which lies at the foot of the Small Carpathian Mountains, 60 km north-east of Bratislava. The participants will be accommodated in the Castle. The beautiful natural surroundings and the attractive interiors of the Castle will create a special atmosphere for scientific discussions, relaxation and meeting friends.
The scientific programme of the ALAMY_9 is currently in progress. It, however, will traditionally be aimed at the main alpha–amylase enzyme families and clans GH-H (i.e., families GH13, GH70, and GH77) and GH-T (i.e., families GH57 and GH119), as well as at the family GH126. Also, within the scope is the auxiliary activity family AA13 of starch-active LPMOs. Various aspects of starch and glycogen (which is considered, in general, an alpha–glucan) binding—mainly as distinct CBMs—are also involved, including also gut microbiome-oriented studies, as well as those focused on health and industrial topics and applications.
The Lifetime Achievement Awards – including the Banquet Lecture – will also be presented during the Award Ceremony on Wednesday, 17 September, accompanied by Awards for the Best Poster and the Best PhD student.
All “amylase-positive” people are equally welcome!
The number of participants is limited to ~80 due to the capacity of the Castle. Therefore, the rule “first come, first served” will be used as the main base.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Smolenice again!
