Dear Colleagues,
Infections are still one of the most important complications of solid organ transplantation (SOT). SOT recipients are prone to develop a wide range of infections, but the bacterial ones are responsible for more than the half of all. These infections can cause graft dysfunction or even patient death. They lead to prolonged or repeated hospitalization, increase healthcare costs. Pneumonia, urinary tract infection (UTI), and cholangitis are the most frequent clinical manifestations. Transplant recipients are at high risk of multidrug-resistant bacteria due to the surgery itself with frequent reoperations, long-lasting hospitalization, invasive procedures and exposure to broad-spectrum antibiotics. All measures against bacterial infections have key importance: prevention, prophylaxis, early diagnosis, adequate treatment. However, all of these topics deserve detailed discussion.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Microorganisms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
